  1. Are Newton and Max King confirmed delisted?
  2. Off topic irrelevant Tom Boyd comparisons in the Jesse Hogan thread. It's got nothing to do with Hogan. Here's a better place for it. Tom Boyd won the flag for the Dogs. That was one of the greatest big man games in a Grand Final I've seen. 6 contested marks in any game is big and the time, place and way he took them was amazing. Topped off with 3 goals 2 - goals at critical times in different methods. That doesn't happen by accident. #1 draft pick, following on from his tough work in the ruck in the PF, he came of age in a hot GF and has inked his name into football immortality. If he never played again the Dogs would still have their money's worth. I reckon he'll have a good career and he'll always be a GF match-winner, that's rare air
  3. OK fair enough, "just like Port Adelaide did", that's more accurate.
  4. Potential vs Results right now. I really hope Hogan stays. Boyd's achievement cannot be denied.
  5. Agree with all that except the Dogs aren't a foundation club. I've seen this falsehood a number of times. They joined the existing league just like GWS did.
  6. More likely that the Dogs become a big club. They have a massive catchment in the west. If they can capitalise on on this success they could change their whole profile.
  7. You're normally the voice of reason but .... GF. 6 contested marks some massive. 3 goals. Without him the Dogs don't win and if he won the Norm Smith it would have been just. Come the hour come the man. Boyd is miles ahead of Hogan right now. Hogan has the ability to bridge the gap but he has got it all in front on him.
  8. Has a bit of the Cale going on.

Agree we want to keep some midfield depth. M.Jones, Newton and Michie - each has his own limitations. Keep the rookie and open 2 senior spots.
  10. We're not going to get him for a 2nd rounder. Geelong will want a 1st (they don't have one this year) and I think his value is somewhere in the teens. The deal would need to be our 2017 1st for Motlop and Geelong's 2nd (34). That values him at about pick 16 (assuming we finish in a similar position) which is about right I think. http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/biddingsystemfeedback.pdf There are many ways to get the same basic result e.g. 2017 1st to GWS for 16 + 33, 16 to Geelong for Motlop - that probably appeals to Geelong because they get a 1st this year (they may want to trade this for Deledio, Richmond on trade for Prestia) and Geelong get to keep their 2nd. BTW, I think Hibberd for 26 is a pretty good deal.
  11. Agree 100% when you look at that 25-29yo bracket it's very thin. Hibberd does add one to it.

Also he's RFA so it clearly signals we wont match and that makes it easier to field offers.

Yes but I think he may have a direct line to Matt Jones and they were impressions whereas delisted is a fact. I rest TBS case!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-07/revealed-what-it-takes-to-earn-firstround-free-agency-compensation- "Under the rules, compensation is based on the new contract of the free agent and his age. Draft picks are also allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period and can be slotted in to one of five places: first round, end of first round, second round, end of second round and third round." 3rd round following our pick is the lowest qualifying pick - that would be 45 which would be quite handy. Grimes is a young FA so that's in our favour and if an interstate club wants to entice him to move then it could be 3 years on some decent $s. I think a compensation pick is possible.

I'd retain one of Michie/Matt Jones (rookie so frees a primary list space), Pedersen/Dawes (not injured), Dunn/Garland (Dunn more tradeable), I think we need to retain some depth and we would still have plenty of list vacancies.

I agree with BRFE that he's tradeable, but I also agree with AAC that unless we can get something meaningful for him we should persist. We don't need to off to free list space, there's plenty of candidates ahead of him in the queue this year.
  18. It was me who raised it. Much has been made that MFC and Casey are playing the same game style. In the VFL GF, Casey had a significant number of MFC players who represent a cross-section of our list and who should be able to perform at that level. I see a pattern in the St.Kilda games and the VFL GF this year. If that game was at Casey I'm confident we would have won.
  19. MFC and now Casey have a real problem playing at Etihad. We have to address this if we are going to challenge. That game reminded me of the 2 against St.Kilda this year.
  20. It depends on whether you're glass half empty or half full. He's capable both inside and outside. He is inconsistent but his best is match winning. He can play HB, wing, HF and take his turn in the square. And he has an x-factor with his kicking. The cost? What's this huge cost - a pick somewhere around 10? It might be Dangerfield or Kane Lucas.
  21. It's a good story all around. And you would have done it better how?
  22. We need more long term guaranteed best 22. We don't need more Bugg or Kennedy or slightly better versions of them. We need very good players who will push Vandenberg and Garlett down to depth. We should be chasing Mitchell and Hartlett. We have enough talented youth coming through. I'd be happy to put next year's 1st on the table. It's self-fulfilling, with Mitchell and/or Hartlett in our team we finish higher.
