Last year, the FD talked a lot about staying hungry and competitive, however, many noticed a drop off in that facet last year. What has helped the team return to their ultra-competitive mentality of 2021?

For me, i am curious about Deakyn Smith, watching Casey he seems to be progressing well and has been working hard for quite a while. Had some stand out classy moments against Box Hill last week imo.

I don't think he is being punished, he is being allowed time to manage a back injury and when he's ready he'll back in the 22. I also agree he is probably our best option when fully fit but we know what it looks like when we have an unfit BB in the forward line, it ain't pretty.

The recruitment team seem to target 1-3 players at each range. If they appear, we will go for several e.g. Jackson + Koz. Or we will target a specific type e.g. bowey, Laurie. Or, if they have found their man, they will be hellbent on getting him e.g. Lever + may. If they deem Reid to be the man, so be it.

IMO Schache has shown a good string of games in the 2s, and has been rewarded. BB and TMAC had stinkers so they stay at Casey. We have enough options to have each tall compete for their spot in the 22.

Very very early days, but teams have caught up to us and have smartened up to our gameplan. The meta shift from control to fast footy is certainly in response to our and Geelong dominance. We were also lucky in '21 as we in hit top form whilst old contenders died off and new contenders were still building. Regardless, our best is still the best, we have an entire season to hit our straps. Everyone was in hysterics being 10-0 last year but frankly, this is just a more realistic position to be in. Learn our lessons now, keep our cards close, and sky is the limit come September.

He definitely got out worked by Essendon's two ruckmen. I think we need the dual rucks to compete with other teams with dual ruckman, but it shouldn't be an issue with Gawn's close return. He did however drop several marks during the game where he had very clear and clean opportunity to clunk them, that was most frustrating for me.
