413 shots for 205 goals and 208 pionts
Bring-Back-Powell replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
4.6 last night from set shots and one of them came from the Brayshaw 50 metre penalty in the goal square. BBB who couldn’t miss at North kicked 0.2 from set shots. The set shot conversion needs to be over 50% as theoretically players should be more composed than kicking on the run. -

Brayshaw’s last qtr miss was the costly one and a reflection of our woes this year. A player that was supposed to be renowned as an elite set shot for goal, can’t nail a shot from 40 mtrs out on a slight angle. It’s been happening all year from some of our players including Kozzie, Petracca and Gawn. T Macs also been poor at times at the regulation set shot. Was also annoyed at Brayshaw’s arrogant celebration after he kicked a goal from 1 mtr out from a 50 M penalty, to put us 11 points up, as if the job had already been done. I can see our conversion holding us back from a genuine tilt this year, unless we can get it right in September. -
Just realised we kicked just 2 goals in the last quarter and a half against a bottom side with 9 of their best 22 out. Not good. The draw was pretty much as good as a win which was pleasing. The overall performance most certainly wasn’t. I like Jason Bennett as a commentator but you could be forgiven for thinking he had a few shekels on the Hawks such was his excitement after each of their goals.

I agree we’ve got our work ahead of us to go 3-2 for the rest of the year. My point was that a win or a draw tonight makes no difference for the run home. We Still need to win 3 games to claim a top 4.

Is it possible the poor teams we’ve lost/drawn to have specifically adjusted their game plan going inside 50 to prevent the high bombs to Lever and May, combining dirty ball with smart low passes. How often did we see May and Co get beaten on a lead in the Pies and Hawks games. Meanwhile Essendon (who are clearly better than Collingwood and Hawthorn) are on record as refusing to change up their method for one isolated game which subsequently resulted in them continually bombed it high for most of their inside 50’s. Perhaps the same applies for the top teams where they’ve backed in they’re existing tactics against ours.

Has T Mac nailed a set shot at the MCG since the Sydney win? I thought BBB was quite poor tonight with just 1.1. Can’t expect to win too many games when our 2 key forwards kick 2 between them. If Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling are kicking 2 between them, you can pretty much assume that West Coast have lost.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
In - Melksham, Out - VDB, Need some class ball use from 70 going inside 50. Too often we hit our forwards on the boundary where as Melksham can thread the needle and hit up someone directly in front of goal. Plus he’s a nice set shot at goal. Would also like Harmes back in the side and perhaps look at dropping ANB or Jackson. -

And kicked 0.6 in practice match against North in 2020. M Brown ain’t accurate. -
Who the hell is our goal kicking coach!?

What hope do we have when Ben brown joins the party, missing a set shot from 30. He kicked set shots from 30 in his sleep for North. -
It was a pathetic draw tonight. However, before tonight we needed to either go 4-2 or 3-2-1 to make top 4, so technically we’re still on track to make that achievable target of 16-5-1. I’ve got Port and Brisbane both going 16-6. A draw helps us make top 4 tonight. A clean centre clearance by hawthorn in the last minute would’ve been an epic disaster for us.

Bulldogs beat the Suns by 11 points with 4 less scoring shots. Dees draw with Hawthorn with 5 more scoring shots. Our inaccuracy will cost us a final as it’s now become a pattern of behaviour. Livid with Brayshaw’s miss late in the game. The Brayshaw of 2018 would’ve eaten that goal for breakfast.
-
Needed that. provably could’ve done without the Brayshaw celebration from 1 metre out from goal

I genuinely hate watching us play against bottom sides. We just don’t have the mental ability to play minute to minute against these mobs. It’s way below our standards we set against the better teams. Geelong would be up by 50 pts if they were playing Hawthorn.
-
Petty will be a big loss against the Dogs for sure. All the other contenders have injuries so we just have to deal with it.
-
There’s going to need to be some tough calls later in the year if JV7 doesn’t improve. He’s the complete opposite of a crisp footballer at the moment.
-
Dogs play ordinary but win simply due to accuracy. Dees, take note.
-
I might be on my own here but I’m kind of hoping the Suns beat the Dogs tonight.
-
That is true but the feds recommend against it which doesn't help matters.

As I said, Dan Andrews rubbished the idea yesterday that under 40's would miss out on attending if unvaccinated. He was clear in his opinion that the under 40's shouldn't be penalised for a vaccine supply shortage in this country. Andrews stated that it would be a different scenario if the vaccine was available and people chose not to be vaccinated. Those people would and should be precluded from attending. I couldn't care less if you think I have an awful attitude. My personal dream/goal/ambition is to see a premiership live at the MCG. Not in the loungeroom. I have no interest in handing over my priority access GF ticket to someone else because I'm ineligible to get the appropriate vaccine. I'm in my very very late 30's and currently ineligible for the Pfizer vaccine. I have been attending weekly games since the late 80's and went to every single game in the horrid Neeld era when we were getting 12,000 to some games. I have just as much right to see my club play in a grand final than any other loyal MFC members regardless of age, and would be bitterly upset if I was told I can't go for a reason out of my control despite having priority access to GF tickets.

On the assumption that finals won’t be held at GHMBA, we can actually afford to finish 3rd or 4th with a pretty solid 4-2 run home. Brisbane losing was a great result for us in terms of avoiding potential travel in week 1. The only risk of finishing 3rd or 4th is if we play Dogs at Marvel. But we’ve won 9 of our last 12 games at Marvel so that ground shouldn’t hold fears for us. As mentioned, we should be targeting a 4-2 finish and achieving our wins record of 17 in a season.
-
I’m in favour of this idea provided they remove the pre finals bye.
-
From a purely case number point of view, this has a two week lockdown written all over it as per our last May lockdown. I don’t expect our next MCG game to be in front of crowds until round 22 against Adelaide. Hope Im wrong.
-
Dan Andrews quickly shut that idea down. Thats completely unfair on the under 40 cohort who want a vaccine but can’t get one, as opposed to overseas where supply exceeds demand in some countries.
-
Good result tonight. If we go 4-2 for the rest of the year, we sow up a top 3 spot and avoid a week 1 interstate trip. The destiny is well and truly in our own hands and we only have ourselves to blame if we drop games to one or more of Hawthorn, GC , West coast or Adelaide.

And he’s supposed to be the best caller on the land who will be calling this years grand final. Dennis and Bruce ought to be embarrassed that they’ve handed over the chief commentary duties to Taylor.
