  1. Definitely broader than just these three players, the whole team needs a bit of cohesion, to work a bit harder, to be a lot smarter with and without the ball. Watching us against the Doggies was painful last year. They had a simple plan and we just coughed it up repeatedly. Could sense the frustration from Petracca that day as he tried valiantly to lift the team by doing too much, but ultimately he too had no counter to their tactics either. They just let us win the ball at Max's feet, cover all options and strangle us to cough it up. They had the outsides covered every time, it happened throughout the entire game. More than anything i really feel we have the players to be highly competitive. Well we should. Our gameplan and tactics for matchday have been lacking for a while i reckon. I am bullish that Yze and Williams are going to get the place in order. A gameplan, development of players, and tactics for each opposition, we should be finals bound. VandenBerg was woeful last year, i really felt like he was fifty-fifty proposition by hand or foot. Was almost laughable at times under no pressure. Previous years i thought he was pretty decent in that regard, something changed this year though, and he had lost quite a lot of his pace i thought too. Viney 1 in 6 seems pretty high. Theoretically he gets 24 disposals, but murders 4 of them. Viney will be much better once we have a solid system in place...our whole team should be!
  2. So where does he rate amongst all onballers for last year? I am looking currently at footywire and can't seem to make that filter/comparison. Realistically i have him as our 3rd best onballer....doubt he would be the number one at any of the other teams.
  3. Just looked up clangers count from last season. We have 3 players within the top 20 which is not a good stat to have. 3. Clayton Oliver 69 total clangers. 12. Christian Petracca 60 clangers. 18 Jack Viney 55 clangers. Looking at previous years appears to be much the same in terms of clangers. Need to find ways to be much cleaner from what is supposedly a very good midfield. Adding turnover counts.... Equal 4th. Christian Petracca 84 turnovers for 2020 8. Jack Viney 80 turnovers 19 Clayton Oliver 77 turnovers Harmes/Brayshaw right up on these lists when they play onball too. We basically have bunch of onballers that undo a lot of their good work with careless skill errors and turnovers. Until we clean these areas up i don't think we will go far.
  4. He is never in the top 50 players reviewed each year fwiw. Not exactly comparing onballers with wingers/half back flankers. I would think the areas he would definitely be in front are turnovers and clangers. He has large heart but plays with very little brains imo. I think top 200 would be accurate. To get an accurate picture of where he lies he should be compared with on ballers only. I doubt he would be in the top 30% of all onballers, would be surprised if he was!
  5. 4 years of foot issues now we signed him up. MFCSS!
  6. Haha! I was typing it with a lopsided grin. He looks something that we don't have anyway, Tomlinson being the only one that i can think of that will be able to do the repeat runs, roughly his size. I can see why some think he may end up being our other winger. Of the 3 draftees he looks the more likely of them to play early.
  7. Will be much better player than Jack Watts going by his highlights. Lets not heap pressure on the guy though, he needs to get into side and build from there. His size and being able to run all day i am sure makes a lot of us quite bullish about his prospects. Looking forward to seeing what he has got!
  8. Who cares lol... We all have different opinions but apparently that is bad to you. Calling someone out is trolling btw.
  9. He is actually adding content here and answering the Original Post....What are you actually adding here? You should be banned, this is trolling 101.
  10. We wanted to change the way he played if i recall correctly, we wanted a far fitter, more mobile May who was going to get to and impact more contests....he broke down with new loads he was not used to. He has been the person who i would say shows more leadership than our actual captain, no sleight on Gawn but May is/has been inspirational. Should have been All Australian last year. He is an Ex- Captain who is in career best form and he is driven to have success before his career ends. Why would you wait to have him in leadership group, you'd only be punishing the team! Who would you have above him in the leadership stakes?
  11. Gawn and Viney stay as Captain and VC. May (has to be in) Lever (should be in) Petracca (Has to be in from what i seen and heard of him, come a long way from an excited kid with ADHD, he will drive new standards) Langdon( Leads by example and deserves to be there) Ben Brown (humble bloke who will get the forward line organised and working as a group) Melksham cannot be considered on what he showed all last year (Not leading by example) Clayton Oliver should be close to leadership group (Needs to get have huge preseason much like Petracca last year. He has been driving new standards since he got to the Club but can take his game to giddy heights, we all seen it in bits and pieces...When he gets to these new levels he will win games off his actions and could see him easily winning a Norm Smith or Brownlow.
  12. i think a lot of you seem to be looking at through your own moralistic stances, which is fine!. Most normal humans are going to condemn this type of behaviour. To infer that JP had mental health issues before all this smut came out would be somewhat right. I mean the text messages are as damning as the pictures he sent...Does he have a coke issue? If he does it is likely that he has some mental issues. The main point though is after the event. He got called out on front of national papers, following day it was more girls verifying he is a serial offender. Hawthorn told JP to stay away from training as they did not want the circus with media. There would have been discussions that they will go through the due process, but your career as an AFL player is on severe tenderhooks. I would say his career is done and dusted and he is wondering how he fell so fast, his head would be spinning ,a trip to the mental health ward may be not a card played but more fallout due to hugely stressful circumstances. Not condoning the acts at all but the fallout would be real for any human facing similar circumstances.
  13. Bedford cam 2nd in our first time trial last season, behind ANB. Really would like to see Bedford given a bit more chance this year, has some good skills just needs to get more involved.
  14. The Five players i would like to impact. 1. Petracca 2 Oliver 3 May 4 Ben Brown 5 Langdon We need all these guys to regularly impact and the whole team to to lift around them, i really believe each of these guys can go another level or two in terms of impact and consistency,
  15. Great post! I been banging on about the benefits of mindfulness and knowing how great it has been for a club like Richmond who were prior to that perennial underachievers. It gobsmacks me why you would not try and gain every little possible advantage that you could in an industry where a % difference can mean playing finals or not. Of all the clubs out there i think we could benefit the most out of it due to our past history. I expect we will do it in like 10 years time where and when the whole industry will be using it to gain every advantage possible. i really pray we get onto it much sooner. Most of our issues are "up top!"
  16. Interesting summary! How would you rate Goodwin among these other coaches? If you believe Simpson, Buckley and Beveridge have stagnated but reached a higher level . i don't think we really have a clear cohesive plan when it comes to a style that supporters can depend or rely upon. In fact i would say we were closer to a good gameplan at the start of his tenure as coach. Hopefully with Yze and WIlliams added to the group there will be clarity in what we want our game to look like. Something that Simon has persisted with is outnumbers in the backline (We had to stop the easy out the back goals), but it creates this imbalance when we go forward we are constantly outnumbered. I find this a bit flawed now we have a great backline/system that really works. Should we not be backing ourselves one on one across the field to play within our systems. It would stop the easy rebounds from attack. We might be able to lock the thing in occasionally if we had even numbers across the field. In summary, we still need a much less predictable game plan that play to our strengths and don't disadvantage over half the field!
  17. It is a mix between player and all coaches responsibility, essentially though the head coach is responsible for game plan, match day tactics, selections. Over the last 2 years we have seen repeatedly that Simon likes to do thing in his own manner. I don't think i have ever seen him be proactive from changes made on game day. Definitely not proactive enough and definitely not reactive enough to the oppositions moves on game day either. Woiuld he be getting advice from rest of coaching panel on ideas? 100% yes. Does he listen or do anything? i would say he just stubbornly does what he thinks is best. I don't think you are going to find evidence to say that he does not listen but last 2 years results should make you question whether he does. I can see Yze being head coach with Mark WIlliams his right hand man should things not change greatly this year. We are still so far away from having a solid gameplan currently. Get Richmond playing our style atm and they would be rabble too. Over to you again Simon!
  18. Thinking it is forward or bust for Tmac. He scares me when he gets anywhere near the back line. Worse than Oscar was down back, surprises me so many see him going back there and playing any better. Decision making has always been a bit iffy under any sort of pressure. Not suited as back line player! If you could rely on him to crash packs and take many intercept marks to offset the goals he gives away through skill errors maybe it could work. He would need to up his output immensely. Either Weideman or Tmac to play 2nd tall forward, i doubt we will have both in the team very much at all this year.
  19. How mindfulness gives Richmond the edge (afr.com) Really interesting what Richmond feels it has done for them. Why would you not try to get every possible edge in a highly competitive game!? So many posters here seem to think our problems are "up top" not due to our lack of quality. Goodwin is oldschool and probably would not see the benefits. I would love to see us all on the same page, busting their absolute guts over course of a full season with Premiership being the goal. They would all love to win one of course, but would they do anything for it? *Great post btw...The overall impression i get when watching Melbourne is we play scared and not many seem to be having fun. Richmond is the complete opposite, laughs/jokes/ busting guts for each other. The sooner we get minfulness involved the sooner we get out of our rut of being perennial underachievers. A game plan would help too of course!
  20. Ricmond utilised a psychologist with great results. Many of their players credit it with making a huge difference. 3 Premierships in quick time. I been saying we need psychologist at club for at least 10 years. I don't believe we will win a Premiership until we work out how to get the best out of our players more consistently. Most of them seem to not be able to work it out themselves. We seem to play more like bunch of individuals than a team imo. A psychologist could solve a lot of our issues. We have the ability just weak mindset over the journey. It needs to be a collective, team effort, much more often!
  21. He reminds me a LOT of Jack Darling in his earlier years. Great potential....good hands/decision making/kick. It took Darling to around the age of 26 when he really broke out. He had Kennedy to always take the best defender. Have a feeling this will be the year we start seeing some consistency. BB will greatly accelerate his development showing him how to be more crafty about his role.
  22. Yeah after the Sydney/Freo games i had a few C words about my team. Had less to do with culture and more vulgar profanity though :/ I do believe there is truth to the whole culture thing. I am hoping we learn to play as a team and stop caring about what each is getting paid etc. Seeing Petracca/Spargo/Weid develop this year was nice. To get to higher levels we need a heap of our list to improve....Most should be getting better, not worse. Development, game plan and start believing in each other. Trust in our structures and players working hard and consistently is the only thing that is going to get us to promised land. Most of our list has at least 10-15% improvement within them over the course of another preseason. We need to see it!
  23. I think the main issue is we have played him for best part of 2 years and he at no stage warranted it. He should have been dropped multiple times. Goodwin just kept the faith that he would suddenly regain form. i find it scary he did the same with Melksham /Harmes/Brayshaw this year. We too often drop fringe players but persevere for way too long with overpriced underperformers. Players need to earn their place. We just have a horrible pecking order and it is not rewarding effort from guys trying to bust into the team while others are getting gifted games. I hope Yze can sort out a lot of this, zero faith that Goodwin has it under control. No wonder we hear of factions within the team. Selection needs consistency based on merit...Not on past deeds.
  24. We pay around 700k to extend Jack Viney...i would think Treloar would be worth it if we could get him for around the same $$$...he is much more value to a team the type of player he is.
  25. You can rest easy knowing we got Viney ready to carry the midfield for next 4 years. :/
