Rd 01 Availability: Viney, Pickett & Brayshaw?
NeveroddoreveN replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sounds like he was very interested or tempted by the Geelong offer until it came to $$$. They valued him around the 450k mark, we value him at 650+. Can see why he is still playing for Melbourne. Fwiw i think we should have traded him and got something different into our midfield but many seem to rate Viney so highly that we had to keep him whatever the cost. For his age/experience he is a very one dimensional bash and crash type that does not seem to think through many situations on the field. The real issue though i think is that he does not have flexibility to play other positions, much like Harmes/Brayshaw. Not sure all 3 of these guys are needed....Definitely not all in the same team. All these three players are expected to play Seniors and are paid well above average wages, i just don't think we function that well when we have 2 or more of them in same team. Overpriced depth if god forbid something happens to either Oliver or Petracca. I hope each of Viney/Harmes and Brayshaw can all add layers to their games, none are automatic selections going off last few seasons. -
As much as i would like to the Cats to drop off, just can't see it happening with Hawkins/Cameron, stacked midfield, experience all over the ground, and of course a favourable draw with plenty of home games. They will be top 4 again as much as i would like to see them falter and fail. They just seem to know how to win games, ugly or pretty, they get it done. Have been hoping for years they would drop off with older legs. It just does not seem to happen as they keep getting talented/experienced players and lets face it their system down at Geelong is A1, and they are a very good team.

POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Richmond
NeveroddoreveN replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dunno exactly when i watched it, i think it was day after,,,,,The replays quarter by quarter were definitely up on youtube as soon as games had finished and at that stage were not on MFC website until later that evening. I find that the information we get from this site is much more informative than MFC site regardless! -

Sure do...it was up on Youtube before MFC though :P -
Going off our last 5 years we would be far better off playing at Marvel...we don't exactly have a great MCG record. Going to be rapt just to see footy in Melbourne again wherever that might be!

POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Richmond
NeveroddoreveN replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Saw a post game interview with Chandler on Youtube....it is strange that this type stuff would not be up on MFC to get memberships before season starts. They should be doing everything they can to promote the club. Not going to get 50K members by hoping lol. -
Need to do a supporter piece of long standing members/supporters "To Hell and back". I reckon it would have a lot more relevance than players/club telling us they are hurting and ready to atone BS. Bullish about this years prospects but i really don't believe as yet the players do everything in their power to win. They don't quite know what is required as yet. Until they can execute under pressure, the inexplicable losses vs an inferior opponent after a good win, the brain fades when a team is coming at us hard, the skill errors from lack of concentration will continue. Hopefully we click this year, the excuses/reasons for failure is becoming unpalatable for a lot of supporters....our team should be good enough to compete for finals. No excuses Demons, demand higher standards of each other, be accountable, do whatever it takes to win.... It is what good teams do!

Yeah i agree, looked like Rioli had a much more AFL ready body though. Bedford flashing in for few goals was probably the most exciting indigenous player out there i thought in the B game. Was missing for large parts but has electric pace and sure hands considering he is hitting ball at such pace. Hope he takes the step up for us.

i find it ludicrous both sides of the coin. The adulation because he is and ex players son is way over the top. I just find people are way too quick either way to say someone is no good off a ridiculously short sample. Would have zero problem with him being developed at Casey or even Casey 2nds if is not good enough yet. He has some attributes that can certainly be harnessed. Will he be a champion or a dud, that part is up to him... but from what i seen in short period he had put on a little bulk and played his 1st prac match vs a much stronger Richmond team. Needs bigger sample for any of us to see the improvement. Being in an AFL environment he will be improving from week to week. Give the kid some time.
-
Needs time to develop...i thought he did some "almost" good things that did not quite come off....that was highest level he has played. I find it almost funny people are writing off a kid with very little exposed form. It takes time to feel like you belong every level you go up against better opposition. Has speed and skill but was pushed off ball easily by bigger bodies. Would not be damning him off one performance though!

TRAINING: Monday 22nd February 2021
NeveroddoreveN replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
i think we really need to adjust our thoughts when it comes to performances. Not everyone has to be a match-winner but they all have to pull their weight with effort/repeat efforts. Young guys are not expected to do it all....but if they are picked they are good enough and should contribute with at least some flashy cameos. More worried about some of our more senior team members pulling their weight honestly, there are too many that lack consistency within games and often fluffing up simple things. Let's face it, we need the whole team to lift and start "bleeding" for one another before we go anywhere...hopefully this is the year we start to gel and work out the effort that is required to win footy games. -
Really felt last year we just persevered with players out of form....ie Harmes/Tmac/Melksham/Brayshaw but with no real reserves competition we did not really get to see others showing their wares. Baker was one that put together good string of form to get him few late games but apart from that i can't think of any others that were able to force their way in/up. I hope we just don't persevere with players horribly out of form in the senior team. I really think players like Mitch Brown should have been played much more and earlier last year when it was obvious a bunch of our senior players were so far off AFL standard.

I really don't think Max is utilised that well honestly. He taps like 90% over his left shoulder and instantly whoever gets it is under the pump. How about drifting forward instead of back occasionally? Our backline is great, we are constantly outnumbered going forward and this is in part due to Max always dropping behind the play. When he takes the mark in the backline he rarely hands off the ball by hand and tends to give it straight back quite often with a garbage kick. We may look better with Daw or Jackson in the ruck and learn to utilise Max more around the ground. Prefer forward to back as mistakes are not as costly. He gets a heap of Hit outs which gives him All Australian positions by default. Do we actually gain midfield ascendancy because of his dominance?? Not sure we do for how dominant he could/should be!

TRAINING: Friday 19th February 2021
NeveroddoreveN replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't and too, not sure whether intentional but made me chuckle. -
Sure to confuse and frustrate both players, umpires and supporters. Got a feeling this one will be altered during course of season. Utterly absurd rule. Would love to see 50 m penalties for the random gut punches, cheap hits etc, not this minor infringement that is going to be hard to adjust to. Most metres gained? Free kicks for standing the mark, going to be ridiculous haha!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MAJAK DAW
NeveroddoreveN replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Guys that get invited to train are actually paid quite well to do so. Just thought this point needed to be made as so many seem to think that we are getting a look for free, it is rarely the case. Like HB he would be getting around 1k a week just to train and impress. Wish him the best of luck! -
Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism
NeveroddoreveN replied to rjay's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you are missing the point, it is not whether or not you like the guy. What does that have to do with systematic racism remotely? It sounds like you perhaps have that tall poppy syndrome and are a little bit jealous of his money and opportunities in life. It does not honestly sound like he had a privileged upbringing either,. Trying to validate hate or dislike for somebody so strongly, for no real reason other than letting us all know how you feel about him personally seems fruitless. -

I am thinking that responses like this you would have been one of the masses booing Adam Goodes for no reason at all. Do you personally know the guy, has he done anything to you, screwed your missus? Fmd the racists here are disgraceful. -

Lmao you reading some tea leaves to decipher that this is professionally written? Common sense is clearly not that common. Just wow. -
Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism
NeveroddoreveN replied to rjay's topic in Melbourne Demons
They sound pretty legitimate....A media team would not be so specific with all the nicknames, nor would not be saying Rhys is most annoying then implying it was joke and saying i love you Rhys. It seems pretty obvious it is legit. Why are people trying to refute what is actually written? None of what he says actually changes what the whole topic is about...systematic racicm. I think many do not quite understand the concept of it sadly. -
Family issue he flew back home for briefly.

Kane Cornes Concerns About Dees in 2021
NeveroddoreveN replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just take a peek through the Ben Brown injury thread. He is not saying much that any of the drama queens have not bought up already. The difference seems to be when Cornes says it though he is living on another planet. I actually agree with him, it would be typical Melbourne to use this as an excuse to underperform. We (imo) have a weak mental side and get distracted like moths by the little things. I really hope we mature when it comes down to it though, many games are won lost through consistency of effort and application. We have all heard the no excuse line thrown about...but really there are no excuses, this is just a minor setback for our clubs aspirations. -
TRAINING: Wednesday 3rd February 2021
NeveroddoreveN replied to DurriePirate's topic in Melbourne Demons
Definitely some type of "Upper"!" LSD not ruling out either. -
Definitely broader than just these three players, the whole team needs a bit of cohesion, to work a bit harder, to be a lot smarter with and without the ball. Watching us against the Doggies was painful last year. They had a simple plan and we just coughed it up repeatedly. Could sense the frustration from Petracca that day as he tried valiantly to lift the team by doing too much, but ultimately he too had no counter to their tactics either. They just let us win the ball at Max's feet, cover all options and strangle us to cough it up. They had the outsides covered every time, it happened throughout the entire game. More than anything i really feel we have the players to be highly competitive. Well we should. Our gameplan and tactics for matchday have been lacking for a while i reckon. I am bullish that Yze and Williams are going to get the place in order. A gameplan, development of players, and tactics for each opposition, we should be finals bound. VandenBerg was woeful last year, i really felt like he was fifty-fifty proposition by hand or foot. Was almost laughable at times under no pressure. Previous years i thought he was pretty decent in that regard, something changed this year though, and he had lost quite a lot of his pace i thought too. Viney 1 in 6 seems pretty high. Theoretically he gets 24 disposals, but murders 4 of them. Viney will be much better once we have a solid system in place...our whole team should be!
-
So where does he rate amongst all onballers for last year? I am looking currently at footywire and can't seem to make that filter/comparison. Realistically i have him as our 3rd best onballer....doubt he would be the number one at any of the other teams.
