  1. It was a bad decision pay the free. But stiff shizzle. People make mistakes. It was the correct decision to pay 50. There's a difference. How many times in history has an umpire overturned his or another's decision based on viewing the replay? (Not video replay). Its a dissenting act to ask an umpire to look at a replay. Mitchell nodded his head when told. I'm tipping he wont do it again.
  2. Hawkins 50m was clearly there. The rule is if you ask the umpire to look at the scoreboard (replay), that is dissent. Made clear as mud in the preseason. Tom Mitchell looks at the scoreboard and ask the umpire to look. 50 metres under the new rule all day long. Players, especially captains and senior players, would do well to learn the rules of the game.
  3. Players can't remonstrate but crowds and the public can throw as much filth and abuse their way. Ok got it. It's my right to be a sook and act like an 8 yr old when things dont go my way! The frustration 50m is silly, but imo the real reason why umpring and refereeing is down across all sports and all codes is the respect they get in general for doing a job. It's not player abuse that turns them off.
  4. Yup, 3 of these media darlings are as soft as butter. When they had Rockliff, Gray, a younger Boak and Wines they werent being exposed as such. Now they are.
  5. Bigger picture rival... Lions 01, 02, 03 Cats 07, 09, 11 Hawks 13, 14, 15 Tigers 17, 19, 20 But this year I agree its the Lions then daylight. Only team with finals experience, star power and depth across every line to match Melbourne right now.
  6. Aging team, takes the pressure off, easier to slide to the bottom 4 of the ladder and rebuild. I'm not sure that's the wrong photo.
  7. 80 percent of the world dont give a ****. 80 percent of the world's population care about clean drinking water, having a roof over their heads, getting themselves and their familes through wars and political oppression. Its nice living here in District 1 and having District 1 problems but as a reaction to this stupid behaviour, most people with real fundamental problems could not care less. Pretty sure of that.
  8. The only player in the club that can stop Trac (at training) according to Steven May last night. Great signing.
  9. Fair play to Tom Morris for doing his job and then giving it right back. Takes guts to stand up to a guy who was trying to bully and belittle him like that.
  10. I think there's a legit typo. Zak Butters at 25. 125 perhaps? Maybe should be Zac Bailey? Averaged 18 touches, 3 tackles and less than a goal a game last year.
  11. I agree with your sentiments fwiw. I used to get all worked up about umpires once upon a time, but then I got myself a life and realised abusing someone to make me feel better is actually pathetic. But Rome is the mob so er, play on.
  12. Fantastic series. A pleasure to read, so thank you for this. Lists are always subjective but I think you did a great job on nailing the tiers. I would say, as our (only) Premiership captain in this era, 5-time All Australian ruckman and clearly head and shoulders above his peers, I reckon he has Gary covered even now (both 2 Blueys) Back to back should do it though :)
  13. Quick glance at any match stats, a clanger is most certainly not given for a behind. In fact, i believe its recorded as an effective disposal as it registers a score. Out on full would be a clanger. I liked the earlier suggestion re forced v unforced clangers. Would be a better reflection on ball use.
  14. You dont get best on grounds in multiple games in winning teams against Richmond and Brisbane without being very good imo. A first round draft pick entering the prime of his fitness and abilities with his best ever year behind him?! He's unquestionably "better" than Sparrow, Jordan etc but is he better at playing the role the team needs? That's questionable. St Kilda have been diabolical with their list management in recent years. Cant believe he's on the scrap heap when depth is going to decide everything this year, if indeed a full season gets played with player (s) pulling out every week on the morning of games.
  15. Im pretty sure its 1080p or 720p. But I think they've just added a new 'download' link to the seasons' games? Id do it before the season 2022 rolls over because you cant watch games from previous years. ( Maybe its been there all along. )
  16. You have to really dig for those negative Gawn comments. There's always going to be some nuffies. The only common line from every pre match opposition thread is the respect for Gawn and acceptance he's going to be dominant (which 4/5 he is). You could fill up 4 pages of positive comments. If there was an nfl style fantasy draft he'd be first picked in a heart beat for many years now, he's that dominant for his position.
  17. The hidden agenda is that, despite being the premier sporting code in a country of 25mln sports mad people, it is still bereft of enough financial expertise to ensure a fair and even draw (over say 4 years) so it has to sacrifice its intergrity for money. Its amateur hour/decades.
  18. Absolute gift given we're down avb and jones this year. We arent going to enjoy a dream run on injuries every year. The knock on his disposal is way overblown. He was down this year but hes pretty much afl average for an inside midfielder. Can't believe Saints let him walk.
  19. When it all clicks its very reminiscent of a fast break from a tip off in basketball. Quick hands, release to a player in motion, who perhaps releases to another with no direct opponent. No coindence that Jackson and Petracca have elite basketball backgrounds, they are always moving forward sensing/looking for the break. Oliver is a once in a generation freak with his hands (and burst from stoppage) and Viney at the coal face allows the other three to shine. Just a great balanced combination Poetry when it comes off and they will embarass teams next year.
  20. I agree. This is a profession for the players. This is not a past time or passion. He left $1 mln on the table? Yes, from an achievement point of view he's benefitted. No question. Because its sports, the thinking seems to be it not a bad decision to give up 1 mln dollars over the most important 5 year period of your career for being part of a more successful firm/employer/enterprise? I could understand 50k or 100k, but $1 mln when your potential total income over your career is likely to be at most $4-5? Wouldn't have thought that about other profession. Anyway, glad hes in the red and the blue. Full preseason hell be ripping next year.
  21. This is on the right track Jt's podcast later in the year suggested quality ball users through the middle and another ruck.
  22. Tmac had 9 kicks, 5 marks, 5 hand passes, 11 contested possessions. Kicked a goal. Eh average game, fair nuff. But Weidman has had better stats than this in all of 2 of his 49 games. We're looking at apples v oranges here imo. If Tomlinson comes back fit, id like to see Petty shifted to forward to replace Tmac eventually. Definitely a top 22 player who can take a grab and shown excellent contested work.
  23. Great topic. My two most memorable were from the same guy which have been mentioned Jakovich (a) - the scissor Jakovich (b) - crucial goal (think we were down 4 goals at half time) and then kissing his brother in front of the members. Made even better when a couple of years ago for a Dland interview he recounted the story and the drive home from the game with his mum and brother. Non mfc goals Ablett snrs goal - over his head between the point and goal post was in a state of origin game iirc. You just knew it was going in when he was trying it cause, you know, it was Ablett. Jason Akermanis at the Gabba in the pouring rain, running towards the boundary, wrong side for a right footer. And then doing it again 30 seconds later. Ridiculous. (He had another set of 'twin' goals in his career where he burst from the centre and kicked 55 metres out on his right across his body. Then on the next centre bounce he did the same thing but on his left. Unstoppable.) Abletts jnr snap for the Suns at Kardina park. 45 metre from the wrong pocket and you can hear the crowd gasp in unison then gave him a standing ovation.
  24. 100% agree. This is going to be a very tactical GF. They use the ball around stoppages so well they get 'clear' clearances which makes the extra defender a witches hat when it comes out. I'd be trying to cut the head from the snake. Harmes or Viney to go to Libba. They are 0-5 the last 5 times he's kept to under 10 contested possessions.
  25. Bingo. Geelong's game plan is soft. In Port's case, its some of their players.
