  1. Put him down for All Australian next year. Sports injury management is outstanding these days. Both the physical and psychological side. So many cases of modern sportsmen who had potentially career ending injuries in their late 20s but had their careers extended, not shortened, by having 8-12 months off to freshen up. Total professional so you know he'll be er, busting a gut to get back out there.
  2. Sparrow to Neale. Neale earns his possessions at stoppages and in and under. Need a bigger body. ANB to the Luggage. We need a runner who can keep up and close down his easy kicks. Can't let these guys get 30 each. They generate too much momentum
  3. North have had one goalless quarter for the year and that was the first quarter in their win against WC.
  4. Well whatever you think of stas imo I think its pretty clear what's going wrong statistically. We are getting murdered on turnovers. And that's unrelated to stoppage and clearance issues, which are secondary. 48 points this week, 61 against the pies, I think 90 against Freo. You can see it happening every week and it's cringe worthy. We are moving the ball too fast by players that suck at kicking and decision making. Rivers has to play middle for the rest of the year. He isn't elite but he's not an absolute butcher like the rest of them. Not to pile on Oliver but how ridiculous was his clearance kick from half back when he didn't even bother looking up the field when he was clear. Goodwin and Max talks about learnings. Give it a spell I reckon,it's not that hard to learn to have a look. Happening for years now. I get that he's frustrated but he's meant to be a senior player of the club. Goodwin has to take some blame. Every person watching could see Oliver being upset. Why not change it up, play him out of the goal square for 5 minutes. Maybe he kicks a goal and gets some confidence. Our midfield and structure isn't some sort of Jenga tower that's going to collapse if players are moved around but he acts like it is.
  5. Weekly post. #4 is wasted in a back pocket. See you next week!
  6. Good week to be selected. Win and you probably keep your spot in a winning side. Lose and the season is probably shot and kids will keep their spots. Someone needs to on sit on Sheezel. Sure, a lot of his 30+ touches are junk... until they are not. Either Viney or Anb for this with the other in the forward line. Viney is an underrated forward. He finds space, decent overhead and an above average kick for goal. McVee in the midfield for a bit (can't help myself) with AMW to debut in a back pocket/rebounding half back. Drop Petty or McAdams. Can't be playing with 21 every week it's absurd.
  7. If you've ever heard Darcy Moore speak or be interviewed the guy comes across as a totally genuine and thoughtful person. We should leave the character assisinations to real villains Dayne Zorko. Come on down.
  8. There needs to be different metres awarded for different infractions. That ump knew that was a 50 but he hesitated, knowing it would potentially mean a goal. And the moment was lost. The stand rule or zoning infraction should be a 25 metre penalty. The team with the ball would get to keep the ball moving and can play on quick further up the ground but not get a shot on goal from the wing from what is essentially a random decision.
  9. Freo and Pies both kicked 6 goals more that historical average after adjusting for pressure and position of shot. No doubt we've had an 'unlucky' patch. But then again, Pies have won more close games in a short time than any team in history it's no longer funny. Make your own luck. I'd like to see players selected on form and fitness to start. Petty is the lowest ranked player in the entire AFL I think and he's getting a game every week. The football department has made a mess of things this year, albeit with a tough starting hand down 2 listed players.
  10. Literally bleeds for the red and the blue. Absolute legend of the club and was on track for his 5th all Australian. Gutted. On the plus side I'm excited to see what direction his cooking goes during his convalescence. I'm expecting more soups.
  11. And I've updated mine to spell his name correctly:)
  12. + Adam Tomlinson should be playing. The knock on his disposals not being AFL standard is utterly absurd given the current butchers running around. He is the excellent overheard and can take a grab one on one. In every game he has played he has contributed unlike some of the names you've mentioned.
  13. Thanks again. Expected score seemed about right. For the second week in a row the opposition were kicking them from everywhere and we're missing gettable shots. That's almost 10 goals cumulative in 2 weeks I think. Fwiw I think the methodology is a little tough on Turner and non midfielders in general. If he keeps taking 7 marks a game he will be elite very quickly but I guess 'presenting' at the ball is a tough one to handicap.
  14. The problem is in this new game style he and Viney are often the player on the end of a handball receive. Somehow Goodwin has constructed a game plan that plays directly into the most glaring weakness of his midfield. It's quite remarkable really. Contested Clarry was actually ok today and he's getting his fitness back. As a fix, he simply calls for handball receives too much when he's in terrible positions. Either he's doing it on his own, or his coach is instructing him to. It's gotta stop.
  15. Just my weekly post gently asking that the one player who hasn't had an ineffective disposal in 2 weeks be given a go more around the ball. Our mids are not just butchers they can't 'solve the puzzle' of where or to whom the next possession should go. At one point I saw Oliver remonstrating with him about his decision making and disposal which was peak irony.
  16. It is. I ran some numbers a few weeks back and we are on par with Freo with average crowd as a percentage of members for last two years. Its a giant myth our fans don't turn up. Whether we have enough fans, that's another story.
  17. Daicos is a phenomenal runner, especially in space. Surely Anb is the only one that can keep up and even have the burst to maybe chase him down. As a left field I wouldn't mind seeing McVee tagging him for a brief patch but really that's just my bias to see him more around the ball. A guy can dream.
  18. I'm genuinely scared what the Daicos boys kicking skills are going to do next week if its a free flowing game. I'm hoping for biblical rain.
  19. May seems to have lost a step and really unsure below his knees. I don't mind the idea of him at full forward. He was drafted as a forward. But without Lever, I doubt it would happen. Our game plan and coaching staff are too rigid. By the by, a skills coach won't do much. 'skills' generally don't improve dramatically in an AFL players career. There is the odd exception of course but for everyone one player that gets better you could name 50 that don't and not for a lack of trying or practice or coaching. You have to draft or trade for skilful players
  20. Nothing gonna change I reckon. There was a good comment a few weeks back that as long as we keep playing this handball receives/play on style we will have problems because we don't have the smarts to make the right decision let alone execute it. Its only a matter of time the ball falls into the hands of Oliver or Viney or Anb running past and they don't make the right decision or execute consistently enough. Might need to resort back to a high stoppage, slow pace style as it plays to our midfields strengths. If we want to play this quick style, there's only one player on our list capable of taking the right option every time on instinct at pace. And he's stuck in a back pocket in a 94 point drubbing. Masterful and creative coaching!
  21. dropped off massively. For a guy that is 205cm somehow allows smaller guys to out position him and he's a below average read in flight. He was good tonight tho for someone who half the time looks like he doesn't care.
  22. Apart from Darcy, who looks like he's 18 playing against under 12s, really like the look of James O'Donnell too. Kid can seriously play. They have some spine developing. But many big guys do you really need flying for the same ball. I'd love JUH but here's a first rounder, give us Naughton please.
  23. Not will be. Is. I'd say he's already a top ten forward. His stats definitely suggest so. Meanwhile Harley read isn't a top 40 midfielder but a prohibitive favourite for the rising star. Should be Darcy imo
  24. Sam Darcy is the best under 21 forward in the AFL. Already has an elite or above average rating in every metric (especially the one that has the highest correlation for key forward success and longevity, marks per game.) Has played 17 games. Would like to see JVR boost his 3 marks per game average well above 4. Most of the good forwards of the current era started off around this mark. Pardon the pun.
  25. just forgetting the stats for a moment (and yes I know you were addressing a previous point) the games we have lost the opposing mids have really dominated the coaches votes and score involvements. Heeney, Warner, Cripps, Walsh, Rayner, Dunkley, Mccluggage, Reid, Kelly. So this isn't a one off. Sure, there's the odd Weitering and Waterman but by and large the midfield opponents of Oliver and Viney and Petracca have really been the influential opposition match winners on our losses. (And even a few of our wins). They haven't been abysmal but they've had their colours lowered repeatedly, which is a huge step down.
