  1. I think they let the people know when first Rance, and then Franklin was made AA captain in 2018. He wasnt part of the leadership group at the Swans and like Hawkins had never been captain. Since Selwood they spread it around now. They dont spell it out because they know the outrage and debate get the clicks! Woewodin immediately springs to mind
  2. They've just racked up an average of 1 tackle per player for the game. Going well.
  3. 6. Pickett 5. Lever 4. Jackson 3. Rivers 2. Petracca 1. Oliver
  4. Thats right but the way its concluded, it won't sound like much because once you represent it as 'over the average', standard devations become relevant. In this case, +0.75 marks is many standard deviations over the mean. I look at it this way, an extra 0.75 marks is worth 50 points (15 shots at goal, 50/50 conversion). That's 3 percentage points. Over a season an extra 50 points to points for is arguably worth an extra win. For sure, I'm not saying he is the sole answer to our forward woes, but when you have someone clearly better than the rest delivering the ball and who struggles to hit the scoreboard himself, Im a believer you at least try something. They tried Fristch as a back (fail), tried Gus on a wing (win), try Spargo into midfield rotation (?). Our game plan is too dogmatic in the belief of big body contested ball winning in the midfield but we are still the number 1 contested ball team. I suggest we could suffer a small loss in that aspect for statistically signficantly better ball use.
  5. His numbers are off the charts. He's kicking to the same forward line as the other blokes (without his towering marking presence admittedly). As another poster mentioned he hangs on to the ball and waits for the leading patterns to develop and then you can almost see him working out which is the best option and then executing. Only Melksham imo has this spatial awareness and execution (on both feet too). Rather than looking to get more Spargo types, how about he simply gets a bit of a run in the midfield. Our coaches and game plan is so inflexible to give him a run for even 5 minutes to see what it looks like?!?! There's trusting your process, but there's also a concept of trying something new (with solid rational reasoning) when something isnt working consistently.
  6. Or alternatively, why don't we say these guys are pretty ordinary kicks, so how about we try and find a way to get Spargo more of the ball going inside 50? Wouldnt kill us to give him a run on the ball for 5 minutes a quarter.
  7. The players themselves surely wouldnt give a toss after the game starts. But its an absolutely brilliant pr moment from ED. These comments have generated headlines. If it gets people talking and hype about the game and leads to extra bums on seats or people watching, its winner winner duck dinner. Not every person that goes to the footy is a mad follower, so the more we are in the press to stir a rivalry, the better imo.
  8. Stopped listening at 3.22 when she compared the bringing of this to light... to Mebourne Tanking.. Every time I think she is an unbiased journalist (this, Clarkson etc) she slews forth utter verbal diarrhoea.
  9. Hence the 'retain your list'. The implication was the actual dynasties Hawks, Tigers and Lions this century all didnt bother spending dollars on ruckmen.
  10. They don't over pay ruckman. Want a dynasty/retain your list? Get yourself midfield stars but dont spend your cap on the tallest bloke in the centre square.
  11. We have 20+ premiership players? Half their side are also rans. We are equal top. They are 50/50 record outside the eight. If we dont [censored] them by 8 goals we have no business winning a flag this year. The draw and competition only gets harder from here. The only loss i could remotely understand is at Marvel it sometimes just becomes a ping pong type game back and forth quickly.
  12. I think he debuts in a final, Dermie/Pickett style. Theres a great romance / team energy about it when it happens.
  13. I fully agree. We should want picks. We will have a premier midfield for the rest of this decade. I would much rather bank picks/cash and then use that currency on an established kpf into 2024. Our premiership window is open for 5 years with this midfield and backline. Get a top 10 goal kicker will set us up for the rest of the decade. Getting lobb will fill a gap for 2 years. Ho hum. Play the long game.
  14. Id be very excited to recruit him and watch him go immediately to the top of the forums whipping boy's list. Do not pass go.
  15. We lost a game and he's an easy target. Its the DL way. Per disposal he is by far our best goal assist player for 2 years now. But let's ignore that. For a midfield that is well below average by foot and decision making, the narrative should be how do we get this guy the ball more as the last kick inside 50 rather than drop him.
  16. Does it have to be immediate?Deals done in the past years eventually bear fruit a few seasons later. Trade received draft picks for future picks in 2025 and beyond. Spend the summer developing a journeyman or Weed into a second ruck. (I didnt like writing that sentence either.) I dont think its total pie in the sky stuff. If Jackson leaves would the club accept taking a punt on 2023 and 2024 to set us up for the rest of the decade. The premier midfield will be here until then.
  17. I wouldnt be surpised if one of Frittas KPIs from the coaching staff is shots on goal. Goodwin has mentioned a few times about Fritta in interviews he loves that he generates high shots on goal. For the record, im not condoning it but sometimes players have a KPI really engrained in their head.
  18. If this news is true, whats the over/unders on the number of posts in this thread when a rival contract is finally signed. Very odd he'll play out the year as negotiations are taking place between his management, the club, and potentially another premiership contender. Huge distraction and as professional as the industry is (spoiler alert: it isnt), its a bit farcial.
  19. First time since Round 10, 2018 Max hasnt taken a single mark in the game. Only the 2nd time in almost a decade. As the best mark around the ground player in the AFL thats a pretty big hole to fill.
  20. Ha. Great summary. Great prediction. Rolicking good read. Thanks for that. Imo, im surprised by the confidence in this thread. Closest to a 50.50 game for us for quite a while. Wont be surprised by the overreactions and meltdowns should we lose. Our fate will be decided in September no matter what happens tonight in reality.
  21. Imo it ends up being pretty much the same as all contracts; some end as bargains, others you over pay. Franklin was a beauty for the Swans in terms of value, Brundy is a disaster. Josh Kelly, jury out. In Brundy's case, the downside is clearly list killing, but the upside of nailing a long term contract also has to be recognized as you suggested (list stability, lower salary, marketing, clarity on signing other players!). Given Oliver's durability thus far and his proven consistent match winning play its a huge win for mfc.
  22. Nick Larkey is the guy to go for in the next couple of years imo. He's 24. Norf will be going absolutely nowhere for his entire football career. That's almost a dead cert. Forget about playing finals, if he wants to know what even winning games is like, he will not see out his career at Norf (jake bowey about to go past him on wins) . Rfa end 2024. No reason to think he would cost big coin, he'll be wanting out.
  23. Im not suggesting it was a fluke but ANB, Oliver and Petracca combined have kicked 14 goals 39 behinds this year with about 15 more shots that missed everything I think. That's pretty amazing to be that poor. A random cannon shooting the football at goal would have converted more. Ok maybe i am suggesting it was a fluke
  24. The inconvenient truth about this is that guys are open but the decision making (and execution) is sub par. Its a problem that plagued the team in 2019 and 2020. Decison making is not easily solved. Its easiest rectified by changing the decsion maker. Clarry has had 82 inside 50s for 8 goal assists Charlie spargo has had 41 inside 50s for 9 goal assists A similar type stat showed Petracca has kicked it 40 times into 50 without a mark being taken (I may be off on this) ANB 42 inside 50s, 12 goal assists. Out midfield could do with a little bit less grunt and hack forwards and a little more polish. Give Spargo a 5 to 10 minute rotation through the middle each quarter, particularly at centre bounces. Viney or Petracca up forward.
