  1. Play him FF at Casey if you dont want him in the seniors and watch him kick bag after bag.
  2. Hmm, maybe players are well within their rights to not uphold contracts if clubs do exactly the same thing? Fwiw, I welcome both outcomes, contracts are not binding they just create leverage in negotiations.
  3. Agree. If thats what he wants (and id be okay with it sure why not) then its a lot about X and Os. Accordingly, if we line up with jvr and petty in the fwd line round 1, we really shouldnt expect 2026 to be much different.
  4. I think folks are going to be quite suprised how competitive Tassie will be from the outset. Reading between the lines the AFL is very keen on giving a lot of draft picks, but that they expect (demand) to be swapped for experienced players AND give them a sign on bonus fumd. GC and GWS coming in in consecutive years somewhat cannablised their own success. They had half their side under 20. Additionally, the player landscape is a lot different to 2011. There is a LOT more money splashing around. Good players and very good players will get an opportunity to be inaugural players with very lucrative sign on bonuses (expecting tassie to have almost $2 mln to sign OUTSIDE the salary cap) If all this sounds like a total rort and manufactured way to have the team competitive from its first or second season. It is. Buckley isnt an [censored].
  5. Buyer beware with BM. His historical output is indeed consistent, above average and what we need (or needed from 2023 to 2025) but his last 7 games saw a significant drop off in marks per game, marks inside 50, player rating, contested marks (he didnt take any). He's really struggled these last 2 months (maybe hes injured) It might just be the Pies were just shizen going inside 50, but 1.5mln for 2 years (if correctly reported) is a big amount of money for a player who may just be a cameo player for the rest of his career if the last 2 months are any predictor. I thinks its a line ball risky decision.
  6. You can't teach forward craft. Players either know how to instinctively lose their opponents or they dont. Its why 3 or 4 of our players had career best years for marks inside 50 per game (due to faster ball movement) and 2 didnt. We're going nowhere with the same KPFs.
  7. Now do it with the administrators. Andrew Dillon $1.8mln + (reportedly) Tell me the players are overpaid again?
  8. Xerri is the biggest player on the ground most weeks and has had just 33 marks for the year. He has had 4x as many tackles (132). Its like Big when he woke up one day and had Matt Rowell or Tom Liberatore infused into his body.
  9. Correct and Elliot Curtis Stringer etc. Its just not about size and giving a contest. You have to have inate forward sense and beat your opponent. And speaking of, couldnt help but think watching Toby Green taking 2 amazing hangers in the final minute to save the lead for his team was everything we missed on Frriday night.
  10. This year we were ahead 40 percent, level 4 percent and behind 56 percent, putting us 11th for time in front. Our flag year we were around 67 percent time in front (1st). 2022 was the big outlier we were ahead almost 74 percent of the time, the best record of any team in the past decade. Def dont feel better knowing that.
  11. If they gave premiership points based on who won inside 50s, we would be on top of the ladder (18-5). If they gave the premiership points for marks inside 50, we would be 13th. (8-15). Fwiw. Fritta and Melksham are both in the top 30 for marks i50 per game. For 'midfielders' both Pickett and Petracca are in the top 10. Hopefully, the new coach can work out the resr.
  12. I mean he's a back half player and an average of 4 score involvements per game would put him in the top 30 defenders of the year. I cant measure the leadership aspect but to have him traded would leave a massive hole in our composure coming out of d50.
  13. The hate for Salem is elite! 481 metres gained (5th most). 27 touches. 96 percent de%. Last week it was 400 metres (7th most), 30 touches at 80 %. Cant really lament our skills and turnovers and then want Salem gone. They might replace him with Sharp! The fact is we lose yet another game with more inside 50s. Less marks inside 50s. Not why we lost, but Jvr and Petty combined output was again below par. They dont work. Copy paste. Even though we've had 2 years of them producing below afl forward quality, we will try yet again in 2026. We will go nowhere until we try something different. They simply dont know how to find space, how many games do you need to see???
  14. I agree for striking offences. But this case is different. The point with suspensions here is to make a statement and led by example for the wider community and stamp it out. Suspending rankine for 5 games would absolutely have hammered the point home. The moral of this story now is its unaccepatble in July but a little less unacceptable in August. The joke is on us.
  15. Will Powell made the exact same slur. Immediately regretted it and apologised to the player. Apologised after the game. And called the following day to apologise again and also self reported. He also has brothers in the gay community so you know he would be absolutely remorseful He got 5 weeks. Rankine getting 4 weeks a month later is unfathomable. Why do we even bother with this sport really.
  16. Not to derail the thread..but if Howe had the same output for us in 2025 as the years he was a forward for MFC ( his first 3 years), he would have have the same output as jvr and petty combined right now. All in a team that won 5 4 and 2 games.
  17. Their key forwards are horribly out of form. Single digit touches for nearly all of them for 3 weeks now. 15, 15 and 16 scoring shots as a team. Meanwhile, ours are actually looking better. Either we play them back into form (so Melbourne) but i think if we win our fair share of midfield ball we are a huge chance to snatch this.
  18. I couldnt agree more with this last line. Or position rather. We need a legitimate target up forward that generates scoring shots. Over the last 2 seasons. JVR and Petty have played 74 games between them for just 73 goals. Ok delivery is shizen but Pickett, Melksham and Fritsch have got it done with plenty of marks and shots at goal. I dont think having them both in the forward line works whatsoever. Im ok if its Petty but Turner/Jefferson/Kentfield (no pressure!) must at least be tried as the other key forward.
  19. Could it be because 2 of our forwards are not natural forwards and no amount of coaching, instruction or game plan is going to make them such. You cant really teach that feign from Gunston, its pure instinct in the moment, otherwise its too rehearsed and afl defender doesnt fall for it.
  20. Look it was great we gutsed it out in the last half (talk of players not giving effort is nonsense). But at the same time what difference would had it made if we lost by 70 and found out wow, May as a forward actually looks good. Rivers in the middle gives us overlap etc. A totally missed opportunity.
  21. Wow. Killed from stoppage. Very rare that's the difference in the game. -41 points. Didnt feel like it, but does speak to how bad we set up today.
  22. Maybe. But you kinda make the point for me I feel. The disconnect is there but yet you try the exact same thing with personnel?? Petty and jvr forward. Turner and may back. Sorry, but youve got a free hit to really take a look at some different things but instead youre doing exactly what Goodwin did. Trying to force square holes in round plugs. At least and see if the puzzle can be solved by moving the pieces around, no? For me, its a red flag he didnt.
  23. And therein lies the problem. Incredibly, we are on top of the ladder if matches were decided by inside 50s count. By thats not what decides games, marks inside 50 do. Pretty obvious we need to change the players kicking it in there, the players up there, or probably both. Chaplin has the reins, and does pretty much exactly the same thing as Goodwin?!?! 'm sorry but he needs to go also. The whole coaching panel needs a rebuild
  24. Couldnt agree more. It would be a good teaching video on the right way to play afl v the wrong way. Embarassing stuff.
  25. The only people that can hold their head up high right now is he board. credit to hawks, they are so bloody good ahead of the ball you have to know that Chaplin, the defensive set up is amateur hour
