  1. Yes, IMV we lacking the diversity of skills inside, that your describing. We need that classy centreman, that nimble rover who can thread thru & around the legs of the bigger players, and the swift inside winner who can burst away like a young Todd Viney. I'd like to see Salem in the pivot again, to see if he can learn to cut it in there.?
  2. I haven't pulled it to pieces to dissect it, but I have noticed it time and time again. The teams under Northey played with much more aggression, which elevated us to a higher level. And with that heightened awareness, came more hunger. That was the basic difference between Northey's and Barass's teams; although the kids had started to come thru from Barass's sides, into the era of Northey's coached teams; so there was a unity, a brotherhood, that knitted everything together. And there where AJohnson and Hughes SWight, BLovett, were in the teams; and '87 saw Viney, Spalding and WDean arrive, with Koopy, and others Mumbles Bailey was already there, so the team/club, lost its timidity of the physical world of AFL. And Strawbs and Stynes, Tingay, Yeater, and others, we had a no-nonsense team with a winning mindset. That team was a bit like, Aussie Golf & Greg Norman. Aussie golf rode on Normans coat-tails, as he forged and slashed a pathway thru world golfs jungles. And since many have trodden that path with less expended mental energy to get thru. and so they have more to use when they got there and they did indeed, grab success. Now with the Northey teams; our USA of Golf were the Hawks... and we got pummeled a few times, just like Norman did in the US majors. What Melbourne really needed was to continue developing youth in a healthy cultural environment. But that environment eroded, the learning and disciplined environment of growth eroded. And went sour. Became more about individuals, than about the team and club. This is when the tail grows large, and wags the dog. And the rest is now history. And that lasted past a few coaches, until the club and list was stripped right back to bones. And Roosy came onboard to rebuild, onto a few remaining players, who had hand-me-down attitudes and culture. And a hangover of sorts, from 2 decades of ware and tare and generally an undertone of self interest. This is why talented teams without the right attitude and hunger, still fail.
  3. And some of this is fitness at Mfc. Not this season, but referring to past eras. IMV: "IF the hawks are a happy team". then "WE are a comfy team". that this is our past DNA of past teams. I think we have been too much like a safe zone were players come to survive and exist without really extracting everything they have to give to the cause. To me it "Feels" like the same feeling of the Mcc. That it's a safe and cosy place in there. And yes, I have been inside the Mcc, many, many times. My aim isn't to maim or to changer the Mcc.... my aim is to point out that Our Footy club should not be like that, should not be so gentle like in there, should not be so gentlemanly as a footy club. Respectful to people around our day to day lives, yes, But on match-days, we should be like SAS soldiers, and go for the Kill. That aggressiveness is the difference to playing games out... to beat the opponents, to win at all costs. Up against a gentlemanly side who want to play friendly, play nice, play by the rules, fair, and all the things you would hope people are like, in day to day life. But dose off during the course of games. So I think the antidote to switching off during games, is to be aggressive in mindset, be mean, be nasty, during all times of the match.
  4. the guy can play, but we have to sort out our insides hard types and add some class into the midfield mix. I think 3 hard in-unders to rotate, plus some class with some speed to also play inside/close, at the centre bounce. Wingers are a different bunch again, and imv, we still need to draft another quick, skilled wing type, to develop.
  5. And we wouldn't want to. Goodwin is doing a very good job. But most wouldn't recognise anything beyond the ladder positioning. He needs support from us, to discipline the players where necessary. Not being potted all the time, for trying to invent the new Mfc. It doesn't happen as quickly as most would hope for.
  6. There is NO room for Arrogance in kids in their first seasons of the game. These two do not even fill out the shadows of Ling, Bartel, Corey, or AblettJnr at Geelong. Let alone pretending to be something. They have time in the future to earn the right to expose some arrogance. But they have earned nothing yet, apart from being big-noises, in a small club battling to get better.

That's right. That's it exactly. Some think we are closer to a cup, than we really are. Now 2020 is a different season, so anyone could fluke one. But that is not the way to build a team/list to stay top-line for the next 6/7 years. We have to do this for the longer term, to be a big side for the next handful +, of years. We have to do it the right way. We don't want more J/Watts coming thru, from mismanagement. or Blease, Gysberts, Mclean, on & on. There is a wrong way and a right way. And mostly it all revolves around disciplines; and patience.
  8. And Cripps marked and hurt us forward, when Oliver was asleep at the wheel, when he should have been minding Intently... Lever and May let Oliver know. The defensive side of our so-called Elite gun Mids, is Poor. They are so far ahead of themselves, it is concerning. We need more senior leadership, to let these young bucks know what real footy is all about. Before we waste another generation of top recruits.
  9. And wouldn't Weitering be looking good in Red&Blue.
  10. Hey, 'wwsw', it's not Too late, yet. Lets see, how the next 6 weeks pan out.?
  11. It's very disappointing, from Spargo. I have been supporting him thru, and, disappointed.
  12. Yep, agreed; but I think we got a bit comfortable at Qtr timwe, but our good momentum, and Carlton's failings continued for a few minutes into the 2ndQtr. And with that, I noticed we started to place the all into F50, more shabbily. We weren't mentally as careful with decision making, as in the 1st Qtr. We lost our mental edge via complacency. As we traditionally do. Go off the boil. This... IMO, is why we play better when we are the Hunters, and why we panic a bit, when being hunted. A sign of a culture that is easily satisfied. Then switch off, instead of going in for the kill.
  13. Forwards have to contributor to goals scored. Check their stats against one another, that will show more.? Speed and skill will be important for us, against them, I have a feeling. So this current weeks selections, should help again.?
  14. With a cutdown season, and no guarantee it will continue beyond the next few weeks, we don't have many opportunities to get our info on what we actually have; so we can continue to build the clubs list in the right areas. We now know he got thru unscathed, but also how he shaped out there, what his speed is now like, and how he blends in with our structures, etc. We already know what Weide brings when he's inform, and I am certain he is not in any danger... also we know what Hibbo gives us, and now we have seen Rivers as well, together with Tomlin and Langers. Apart from our roughness, in 'evenness of form', we can see where we are. And what we likely need, to build, and especially up against a rising team in the same time bracket as we are. In my mind, this is why we selected this way, as we may only play them once, before next trade and draft period. The fact we tired a bit and were a bit patchy, and we still won the game when being truly hunted... and threatened, from Carlton, speaks volumes on our past Era's of form. There is some steel in there, building, and most of it is in the back-half. Which is good, build from the back, forward.
  15. Where was the team manager.? Organisation... not players role necessarily, but surely some staff inside the rooms should be noticing this, as the players arrive back in.
  16. It looks to me that we have bulked TMc up heaps, in upper, and in legs... most likely for him to be power deep forward. The only reason I can can up with is this, for him to play alongside either Weide, or Jacksosn, so to help them grow. One (Weide or Jackson), would have to play high out, whist the other plays beside TMc, to work in tandem. TMc doesn't really posses much pace, nor a big leap. So to play the deep role, he has to build his power, to hold ground. This could allow either Jackson or Weide, to position, to mark in the packs. Obviously to play all 3, they all have to be inform, and working as a unit, creating space and drawing defenders to where we want them to be. This also goes hand in and with our quick agile, small runners. We have the pieces to make this work now. But we lack the exposed class for our future. It may be on our list; and it might not.
  17. That's all we should expect from him in game one with us.
  18. I think he reflected the team psyche, when he was on. 'It' became conservative, when we dropped off a tad, and Carlton began to push us. Carlton put in more after Qtr time, and we dropped some intensity after our 7th goal and lead. That was when we started to waste our disposals going into F50. And each time they rebounded, finding loose players. We were under the pump, because of our approach, going inside our attack.
  19. I suspect the look of lost legs, was a lot to do with MfcSS mindset. When anyone worries in sport, fearful of the oncoming beast, its the legs that suffer. the hormones that run riot with fear mode, do us a lot of damage (physical and mental), in games. Its an area in our culture, (inside and outside) we have to reduce. because it brings all of us undone. We have to battle the opposition, and the inner-fears and self doubts that continue to rise within our minds, causing a mild inner panic. And a Lot of wasted energy, and mistakes are caused from within this mindset. I know and understand this unfortunate situation well.
  20. Same for LDunn; early on when he was being pushed to defence. Almost exactly the same. This to me says, those players were putting their own interest, ahead of the teams interests. And so, I am not surprised they no longer are wearing RednBlue jumpers. This says a lot about our inside culture of the players, back then. More take, and less giving. A ring of greed and self, around the club. A subtle one, but it is there. Robbie Flower had a huge effect on this club, when he was there.
  21. We've done a lot of trading, and less drafting early, since that time IIRC.?
  22. I think Yze would be the in-house go to. Even tho he's with the Hawks. He would be the best to effect co-hesion, between our midfield and hitting up the forwards.
  23. Remember that reductions in monies will be across the board. all codes competitions and across the whole economy. businesses, salaries, etc. prices will come right down. and so extra expenditures like overseas shipping will add up on costs. One thing that will thrive/survive, will be electronic media, as its cheap to export/import. Compared to physical items with size and mass. Players will need extra money, just as they did in the 50's and 60's. Everything will come down in price, Pro, rata.

  25. I agree Dr, I'm not a fan of this Cinderella game, these days, but it is better than 4Yrs back, but needs to get back to old normal, before I will be really inspired by it again. It's just Too contrived & organised , these days.
