Gaff or Andrew Brayshaw Rumour
Came through as a basketballer/athlete who was a bit of a 'see ball, get ball' type. Could win the ball in the contest and do spectacular things, but needed to learn how to run in midfield, so probably would need to learn how to play as an outside mid. Has the speed to play the role, not sure on endurance at this stage. WC used his pace well up forward, and may be reluctant to trade him with the Rioli suspension. Liam Duggan may be an interesting one as part of a package for pick 3.

Kelly's nominated West Coast, so can't see Freo becoming part of the equation. Looks like we're trying to keep splitting pick 3 separate to the Langdon deal.

Ben Sokol
HIghlights from Sokol's draft year. Had Charlie Cameron keeping him company in the forward line and Paddy Cripps pops up in there somewhere as well: https://www.afl.com.au/video/2013-07-17/draft-prospect-ben-sokol

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
They did ok with Martin, Cotchin and Rance. Topped them up with some former GC high picks in Lynch, Prestia and Caddy.

Ben Sokol
Liked Sokol in his draft year and good to see he's performing for Subi. Had a few years playing alongside Pickett and Smith at South Freo, so not a bad place to be looking for talent that has fallen outside the usual pathway. Wrote this about him in a draft blog piece I wrote at the time (had him ranked at 45 that year). I thought if he developed well enough, he might've been capable of doing some Dane Swan type things in midfield. Ben Sokol β Tempted to have him higher. Big bodied medium forward who is very strong over head, uses the ball well and tackles strongly. His decision making is sound and I believe he has the capacity to play in the midfield in the future.

His brother might give it a nudge.

Well, if we helped stretch Collingwood's cap just that little bit more, then that's something I guess.

List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.
Hun reporting that GC hold 'genuine interest' in Billy Stretch after he was told that Dees wouldn't offer a contract until after trade period.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
I think that's about the mark for Crouch, Crow's may push for something else in return, but the major question mark with Crouch is durability. They'll probably ask for Lukosious. GC will be on the improve pretty quickly.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I like Caldwell, though he's not quite what we need in midfield. He can spread and play on the outside, but another whose game is focused on winning the ball on the inside. It would be a decent trade in isolation, but should we just be taking one of Ash/Young/Stephens? I'd still have some discomfort (admittedly lessened) even if Caldwell were added to the deal.

Matt Balmer's latest ranking of the top 30 prospects post NAB league prelim final. Rowell still at the top, but Anderson not far behind. Weightman ranked 19. FWIW, if splitting the pick involves one of the picks falling beyond pick 14 or 15, I'd be ropable: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-draft-2019-top-30-prospects-draft-rankings-afl-indicative-draft-order-matt-balmers-rankings-matt-rowell-noah-anderson/news-story/cb11a9251dd6a277a028f90551d5efa4

NAB LEAGUE FINALS
The gift to GC will also be in how much of a penalty is being applied to other clubs, given the drop from the calibre from those two to the next group. They'd be getting a fair leg up in this draft pool if they get pick 1 and 2 as many suspect they will. One of the standouts in next years crop was on on show today. Key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has been very good this year and kicked 4 today. He has been called the next Buddy by some, but is already tied to the Bulldogs NGA. Next years draft looks like another highly compromised edition.

At least a bidding war could drive our asking price up.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
If we split the pick, one or both of these two should be on our radar: https://t.co/3BnQaERC42?amp=1

Dylan Stephens another outside runner who should be around at pick 11ish.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Young's kick is a thing of beauty. I'm torn between Young and Ash, but gee Young's kicking would make our transition sooo much better:
-
Lachlan Ash (Drafted by Fremantle)
Has made a reasonable fist of playing on ball in the back end of the season, so not just an outside dasher, has a few strings to his bow.

Lachlan Ash (Drafted by Fremantle)
Would be happy with either Ash or Young with pick 3.

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
And Rowell & Anderson drag Oakleigh over the line by 7 points in a cracker. 24 touches and 3 critical goals, 28 touches and 10 tackles for Rowell.

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Rowell and Anderson are back for Oakleigh this week. Half time against Sandy and Rowell has 16 touches ad 6 tackles and Anderson has 15 and a goal. It's live on the NAB League app if anyone's interested.

Ben King
GC not likely to accept. If they were to entertain trading King, pick 2 would have to be involved. We might be able to get the Lions first rd pick (owner by the Suns) back in exchange with a bit of horse trading. Any of the first 7 picked last year would be in contention for top 2 this year. Was a terrific group.

It would be the next step in the evolution of live trading. Wonβt happen until players association tick off players no longer having power of veto on trade destination. Maybe when next collective agreement is negotiated.

I think all clubs get the chance to put forward wish lists and they get consulted on significant decisions, but ultimately 17 clubs could reject the notion and the commission could still sanction a pick before the draft.
