I' m not particularly fussed that Smith won't be a long term player, we've got one year to make progress in finals with Goodwin, we've got 2 years of Goody under contract. We've got a limited crack with May & Gawn. We could well be at the stage where we have to have a mini blow up of the list if we're not competing in finals next year. I'm comfortable with getting a low commitment (in years, not effort) player in the list to fill a need. We won't be burdened with a long term contract if we have to shake things up in a year. We still have clear needs, lets fill them as quickly & efficiently as possible and get cracking.
  2. Sounds like exactly the sort of player we need.
  3. Saints (in particular) & Dogs are going hard for Caldwell.
  4. I'd expect Geelong to monitor the situation as well.

Just spitballing, but it might have been a small amount of the substance in possession, as well as (as far as any scale can apply) accounting for the type of substance in possession. Without having any further detail, it's all just speculation really. Edit: @Ethan Tremblay not only beat me to it, but articulated it better.

The 'Brad Crouch thread' needs to be renamed the 'Brad Crouch line'.
  7. An interested party must have sold him on getting first ruck minutes.
  8. If Freo were a trading partner, I wouldn't mind Darcy Tucker coming back the other way...or Hogan.

Saad pretty astutely called them out. Ultimately sounds like he wanted the security of a longer term deal. With others already leaving, there was money there, as well as a need to avoid having too many walk out.
  10. I think they rate Daniels pretty highly, unless he agitated for a move (no indication that he wants out), he won’t be moved on. Would think we’d be pretty keen if he were available.
  11. Objectively, that’s probably what he is worth, but don’t see the point of moving him if it’s just at cost. Don’t think we’ll do it just for a third round pick.
  12. Sydney have two academy players who are expected to go in the 7-20 range. GWS don't have much coming through the academy this year and are carried a points deficit from matching on Tom Greene in '19 draft. My view is that we could maybe get pick 22 from Swans for Pruess & some lower picks (they may just want to do a player swap), but any deal with GWS would more than likely have to involve a player coming back. Can't see any picks of value coming back from GWS.

I still reckon he comes back at some point, but maybe not this year.
  14. Thanks mate.
  15. I think @Demons11 had some mail around Jesse being available in one of the threads, any updates?

Also, Scott brought him in to add to a group he thought would compete for finals. Scott’s not there now and there is a different direction for the club. Polec is something of a luxury item in this scenario. It shouldn’t reflect as badly on Polec as it has done.
  17. Looking at Geelong, I think they’re really looking to get with Danger, Selwood & Hawkins. So a short term ruck not only acceptable, but probably preferred. A rebuild is on the horizon, so probably not looking to commit longer term money. Goldy was unlucky not to be in extended AA squad this year and I could see 2 (possibly managed) years from him. This all relies on North making him available.
  18. Geelong are another club on the hunt for a ruckman (escaped my mind earlier). Will be interesting to see what North do with Goldstein, he's potentially the best ruck that could change clubs.

I wonder what the dollars remaining on his deal are. Some likelihood given their list that there was some front end loading. Given T Mac is reportedly on a generous deal, I wouldn't be surprised if the differential between the contracts was relatively insignificant.

I don't love Polec as a player, but he has got traits we lack, and on the face of it could be a deal we could get done without a whole lot of fuss, which would allow us to focus on any other deals we want to get done. Would balance out our midfield mix (he would have approx 0 people in front of him in the queue for a spot on the wing opposite to Langdon) in a lower cost transaction. Let's get it done quick and move on to other areas of improvement.
  21. Aaand I'm right back to year 8 Japanese class. Doozo yuroshiku, onegai shimasu.
  22. This is the crux of it. Incumbent on buyers to satisfy us, and that will determine the value. He's potentially of greater value to GWS or Sydney than a late first or 2nd round pick. Sydney in particular have some academy kids rated in the 10-20 range, so probably happy to flip 22 for Preuss & our lower picks. We could probably then do some thing with picks 22& 23 if another deal came up. GWS on the other hand have a very average draft hand after working to get Green in, whilst ensuring they retained a higher pick (Ash). Their currency in trade for Preuss will likely be a player (don't know if we'd play the futures game with them, but they are probably looking at a ladder drop pretty soon). Sounds like Perryman has resigned, so realistically looking at one of Caldwell, O'Halloran or Hately as players that might fall out this year. We lose nothing by keeping him (Preuss hasn't agitated for a move), will only move on if it's a win for us I'd imagine.
  23. If anything I view the reaction as similar to the one I had after we lost to Freo (& subsequently after last weekend). Desperate disappointment with where the club is at and a need to know that we are a genuine chance at winning the thing. I think the club has one season to prove the core of this list is supported to win it all, or those guys will all want to go where they are a greater chance at winning. Truck busted his guts this year and on occasion that was enough to get us over the line, but there were more than a few times where we were carrying too many. I get the frustration.

Wonder if we’re considering using him in a playing coach role to save spending under footy dept cap? Neat way to have an additional coach whilst potentially getting him to 300.
  25. And nary a foot issue in sight, which is a massive bonus. I reckon he’ll have a massive 2021.
