  1. It depends on whether they have access to one of the top three. No doubt that if McCartin, Durdin or Wright is on offer, they'll jump at them. After them, it's not so clear cut. Goddard's sliding a little. He hasn't had a great championships at all, and hasn't really taken any games over, despite being highly touted for a couple of years now. He needs a lift to maintain his draft standing. After Goddard, Lever is probably the next best tall, and he's out for the year with an ACL, so some risk associated. Keitel could push himself up if he maintains form, but he isn't in that top group just yet. Doggies need for height is well documented, but they also have a strong need for pace, as their midfield is seriously lacking runners. A lot of folk have Pickett climbing right up the ranks, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dog's take him if their pick is around number 5. If we have two picks, I think we will look very closely at him.
  2. I reckon Sam Durdin fills a real need for GWS, but agree that no.1 pick is highly likely to be in play. Wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood threw up Ben Reid plus other assets. Sydney could also have a dip. Might Freo be prepared to trade Fyfe for a chance at the best of the kpp's?
  3. Paige Cardona's mid championship phantom draft. Reckon she's done a good job: http://boundforglorynews.com/paige-cardonas-phantom-draft-1-0/
  4. I’m surprised at this one. He’s a WA lad and have heard almost nothing about him wanting to leave. Thought we’d be a better chance at Shiel or Treloar. A very well rounded midfielder. Good inside and provides good run and carry outside as well, he’d be a very good get.
  5. IMO we need to be careful about unbalancing the midfield make up of our list, lest we end up with too many of the same type and same pace. It’s a problem that I think the Bulldogs are currently facing with their midfield. A few too many in and under mids and not many genuine line breakers. We could have used one or two on Monday.
  6. It is nice to have some alternate views out there. Quite often profiles circulated through the mainstream are often unbalanced and mainly promotional tools for the draftees. The critical stuff often goes unsaid. There’s a high amount of speculation with the draft, and I’m certain that no clubs have made up their minds at this stage. There’s still so much football to be played from now till draft time, I’m sure the order will change. Given the evenness of the top group, I think it could change dramatically.
  7. Wouldn’t have thought another inside mid would be a priority for the Roos.
  8. Depends on how much he's grown from last years listed height of 188cm. If he is now legitimate kp height, then yes if Durdin's off the board by the time we pick. Lever's an excellent competitor and distributor.
  9. Bit more on Petracca…do we trust Neeldy as a referee? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/east/eastern-ranges-christian-petracca-is-rewarded-for-making-the-tough-decision-to-give-away-basketball/story-fngnvmqa-1226938898654
  10. Highlights of Pickett, Durdin, Petracca and a couple of others worth looking at as half back distributors. http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-06-11/eyecatchers-round-three
  11. Emma Quayle on Jarrod Pickett: Emma Quayle @emmasq · 1h Jarrod Pickett played one of the great u18 games for WA on the weekend. Could be drafted VERY high. Top part of the draft still wide open.
  12. Little bit of footage from the AFL website: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-06-04/eyecatchers-round-two Justin Bertuleit's notes on Vic Metro from Sunday's game: http://madmondayshow.com/2014/06/09/rd-3-vic-metro-1-scouting-notes/
  13. Would love us to add some pace. If we can get Billy Stretch in the third round, there should be some good running half back/wing types available in the second rd. Duggan probably will be gone, but Laverde and Viojo-Rainbow are good options who may be available. Very good ball users who might be able to give us what Seedsman and Harry L gave the Pies today.
  14. Probably more power (and less finesse) than LeCras. Last year he caught the eye as an aggressive (but at 186 cm undersized) key forward. Good spring and dynamic, played a bit like Jack Darling. Given his body type though the feeling was that he would have to show the ability to play in midfield to get drafted early. Not superquick, but big bodied with good core strength, his conversion into an inside midfielder appears to be going well. Could become a Rockliff type if he builds that engine. Certainly changing a few opinions with his play so far.
  15. Petracca showing his midfield ability with some dynamic showings in the Championships. Goddard might be sliding a little, needs to finish the Champs well, because he's underwhelmed so far. Billy Stretch has probably been among the more consistent players so far.
  16. The things that seems to have Petracca lower in a lot projections than what he really should be are his lack of height for a key position player (which is where he played last season, at an extremely high level), underdeveloped engine (for his new big-bodied midfield role) and questions of pace. Based on what I’ve seen from him over the last couple of years, I think he’ll dispel those doubts over the course of the season. On sheer ability Petracca is among the first few in the draft, and I think his competitiveness and ability to win one on one contests will probably see him selected quite early come November. He has good skills for a contested ball winner, and I can see him developing into a Tom Rockliff type down the line.
  17. 8 clangers amongst his 30 touches. A bit more care with his disposals and his hurt factor will skyrocket. Already such a good player for a 23 game player. Tyson has a bit of work to do yet to get past Jonesy, who is pushing for an All Australian guernsey on current form.
  18. Thanks mate, that's excellent. Really appreciate the report, glad to hear Petracca had a strong game, he and Smith are the points of difference in this draft.
  19. Some footage of Pickett here, as well as a little pump up of Maia Westrupp: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2013-02-15/eyecatchers-ais-afl-academy-new-zealand-tour
  20. Remember the game. He went in low to get it, but his ankle was hurt in the collision and went off when he couldn't run it off. In his favour is that he was willing to cop some contact and he has shown the ability to win his own ball and compete. Want to see more myself before putting him up as high as top 5, there are some big raps on him out there. I would imagine an exception could be made for skilled speedsters ala Lewis Jetta.
  21. Brett Anderson's first mock for the year. Mainly a primer to get folks familiar with some of the names in the mix to be drafted this year. Liam Duggan will move up over the course of the season and Laverde will push up into consideration pretty soon. Western Jets have some pretty good talent this year. Mock Draft
  22. Correct. They get these blokes for peanuts and can warehouse them because their first team is still stacked with quality. Tom Mitchell's picks up 64 touches and 4 goals last weekend and probably is still weeks away from getting a look in. They'll be up top for a while yet, with or without COLA.
  23. My feeling with Brayshaw is that he has an enormous work ethic. Will always try to make the tackle and will continue to run hard all day. Not in the Viney/Wines crash, bash contested beast clearance winner mould, relies on his reading of the taps, game sense and out and out work rate. Wins a pretty reasonable amount of possession outside of the contest too. Where he could be marked down (just on Sunday’s performance) is the number of kicks he wasted whilst in space. He’s shown neat disposal in the past, so hopefully that’s not habitual. The great benefit of the new extended Championship format is that players have greater opportunity to play against the best in their age group. Could well be that Sydney get the most rounded, and possibly talented, of this year’s midfielders, Isaac Heeney, as a virtual free hit Academy selection.
  24. He reads the play well, is very good around stoppages, but just blazed away too often on Sunday. Brayshaw has previously shown he is a good kick on both sides, so maybe the increased pressure yesterday saw him slam it on the boot more than usual. His work ethic is very good, but seems to lack a little bit of pace to get separation. At the moment I’d rate him at around 5 or 6 in this year’s crop. The talls this year are just too good to be picked below Brayshaw. Measuring against last year’s group (which was very strong in the first 10) he’d probably rank at around 12 or so. He has some very nice traits, but I wouldn’t be surprised if other mids crop up and overtake him by years end. Corey Ellis showed signs and if Liam Duggan can show off more of an inside game, they could get into the conversation of which mid is first off the board.
  25. Penciled that one in from a long way out. I’ll be there if you fancy some company PSD.
