Well the mid year draft will be a godsend if we use it right.

There should be flexibility in the AFL rules. You should be able to do a SSP signing at any time if a vacancy occurs. AFL could create this with a flick of a mouse decision. But it won’t. Only advantage is we have 3/4 mths to see which players we can consider. Should be look for another ruck support or perhaps an exciting goal kicker or possibly a key defender. Those 3 spots while either one could help us in time in 2024 if we chose the right one. We chose Marty Hore In a panic choice really and now a half back like Angus ( a winger and class on baller also) it’s difficult to replace him. Nevertheless we need one of the 3 hopefully a KP goal kicker who can also do a small support in the ruck and around the ground. I as m not in the camp that wants to totally restrict JVR from rucking. He is too good a player to not use him like he could be a top class defender later in his career. Part of him is his total commitment and competitiveness and he is an asset getting the ball in any capacity. IMO it is also a great strength to have JVR flexible. Put him behind the ball for 5/10 mins. If he is not getting it up forward. Goody has players at his disposal for cameos and changes that he could utilise if he broadened his thoughts and had the dare to do it. A little bit of Sam Mitchell and Bevo is what we need. Kossie’s start of a quarter cameo can be at any time or can be for 10 minutes for a change up just as him at full forward one out is a great move by Simon. Only Kossies lack of discipline also cost us in the Semi. So a mid year player get looking JT and TL. It may well be a game changer for our season Who knows. Expressions of interest D/Lers?

Dees Could Become ‘One of the Worst One-Hit Wonders’
58er replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We made Prelim in 2018 don't forget also. -
If they can play we will make the 8. It’s really up to our new recruits plus trades plus youngsters and existing role players to improve and have best seasons yet. Little injuries of course especially Key positions and forward line super important. Wonder L if we can replace Gus. He actually is one of our irreplaceables due to his half back wing and on ball heroics. I still think we can put our stamp on the competition and overcome some of the negatives already we have encountered so far. If this doesn’t unite a few loose cannons on our forum nothing will.

Absolutely weak as pi..theAFL Window dressing!
-
My memory was Juddy gave a good account of himself on Dusty. Blake may not be. Defender he may be better off on a wing or FFlank where he can run free and express himself. Let’s see how it goes and what transpires.
-
We wouldn’t have both BBB and Fullarton I would think. The ball would be coming out of our attack in record pace. K. brown should be in the 23 if he goes well vs Blues.
-
Please tell me how you would have “nudged” both to the door when both are still contracted.
-
If Kynan can kick goals and play like he did last week if he does that and Kade does not get involved then he deserves a half forward role in the opening zero game in Sydney.
-
Typical reaction about Howes. Yes he was poor but give him another go please. He may not be a defender so release him to the wing or half forward but don’t cruel him as without ability and stamp his potential.
-
It’s not the behinds that matter it’s the goals! Also the total scoring shots. Also I think you forgot the Swans game which they scored about 11 or 12 I think..

A huge thank you to the Thurin family and Trident's from our D/Lers for such a generous and supportive facility which further enhances the standard of amenities at Casey Fields. Our female and male sports professionals now have a state of the art venue ( although not in central Melbourne yet) which will be appreciated for years. And it will also be for a community use at the same time. Cheers to all who have helped develop this modern facility in the South East and special gratitude to the funding and generous donators and contributors as well.

That won’t be answered until the end of the season around Round24 or during the Finals. I also think some folks are short on memory. 2022 was the niggling injuries to a fair percentage of our troops resulting in fitness issues playing out the last half. 2023 undoubtedly was our injuries to forwards and our failure to take our chances primarily in connectivity and accuracy. Now for 2024 to change that we need a good season with medium to low injuries especially our key and star forwards and that bit of luck that seems to go with all AFL premiership winners.
-
Agree with your Verrell comment. Don’t take notice of all the trackers mis have written both Tmac and BBB as dead. We wont know unless they get to full fitness if that’s possible. How long they can be match fit over 35 weeks is in the lap of the gods but it’s worth our while trying to get them to the post. Both would be a better prospect than Schache unless he gets busy and competes.

Forward Line & Backup Ruck Issues Going into 2024 and beyond ...
58er replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
No. Give him a chance they all develop at differing levels. Start looking at his pluses not the negatives. Most can be worked with. -
I am not sure that Tamara was with us last year One post said she was and another she was with us till 2022. I any case perhaps a new assistant coach will be a good thing for the group. Sill appear to have a very strong squad and perhaps the disappointing ending to 2023 has sorted out the group with some good recruitment esp. Pisano as a gun small forward should add a new dimension to the forward line. Looking for a strong rebound from a talented united list again.

Sorry WDee can’t get much stronger perhaps Petty andMcAdam. just wondering if it’s worth dicing our luck and give Jed Adams a go from the start at third tall and fast track him as we would have done with Turner hopefully. Is it too soon and Jed better off with Casey for a few games and if injury or opportunity presents include him then like Petty was. Not that we want any more injuries!! It’s a gamble because I like Tmac and hope he can pull it off just like I liked Harry’s highlight reel I also see Jed’s as very promising. Looks a cool customer and nice kick out of defence plus a good mark to boot 196cm as well. Time will tell let’s hope Disco can come back better than ever also.

It’s his flying and on the run shots that spoilt last years figures. I also believe Kossie doesn’t look for a handball much any where near goal or trying to race out of the centre. I love Kossie but he must be installed with more team aspects than just playing solo at times. Hi burns team mates occasionally and if he bought these team moments into his game we would be a 10% better team especially around goal and at centre clearances. The Coaches either give Kossie a licence or are very remiss in team rules in his training. Or are just letting it slide for unknown reasons. We can’t afford this in our forward line especially and don’t believe it occurred in 2021.

Have the feeling he will play well in either AFL or VFL early on. His chance may come once the season gets underway. Has some skills in tight no doubt. Looking forward to seeing more of the Kolt.
-
What you see from Kynan is absolutely what you get. He is a heart and soul player like Jack and has far more ability than the average rookie when he signs up. What I like is Kynans absolute unconditional attack on the ball and his general clean hands with it plus his trusty left foot kick with such intent and planting skill in disposal. He didn’t look flustered or under pressure just calm and cool and he runs in a straight line at pace greater than we think. After our delight with Caleb starting to get his game into real shape this is such a bonus that I think Kynan may get small patches on the ball or in the centre. There are no limitations but perhaps building up is a priority so he can be an on baller of the future. Maybe he will debut in the 23 and he would also be a handful as a Sub. Well done Kynan you are going great guns. Looking forward to your continued development.
-
Yes that’s right. He was good but when he was signed I think Kobe was also given a very promising introduction and confident post of welcome.
-
Have you had any advice that no figures are going to be published George or that no figures are to be published in this pre season period ? Interesting because I feel if the figures were going well there would be publicity to that effect. Thanks George.
-
Andy could you please ask George about our Membership for 2024. ANy figures published etc? Thanking you

No AMW needs an opportunity. Different circumstances and must be recognised. AMW hasn’t had 3 years in the system and 15/20 games yet. I have a feeling he will get that opp sometime prior to the bye unless Kade starts kicking goals and gets busy. Kade may no ok for depth in any case.
