Move onto Monday arvo, win by eight goals and shut everyone up! Then by Tuesday, reflection will be: The team has cone together United and back in business! error above cone would be for Dogs come for Demons!
-
Fair comment. Swans 8 goals from turnovers last week, Demons none, we get 3 which isn’t a lot and we win! Not scoring from turnovers isn’t really backline, more mids & forwards. Week before backline under siege! Handy to drop 2 and still be a game on top. Let’s stop the rot this week with a win. Haven’t got a great record vs Pies recently but a different team with McCrae as coach!
-
Stop it, your talking sense! Can’t you tell - The sky is falling….. I looked at the ladder turned my phone upside down and we’re on the bottom! Yes, we’re playing average football and still only just got beaten. Last two goals were from putrid frees, and Fritsch doesn’t not score from that shot in the last very often! Prelim and healthy is the aim!
-
Credit to Freo, they combined exceptionally well once they got on top. A few factors to consider: - Melbourne got absolutely belted off the ball against Eagles & Roos (why we got more frees in that game), causing Langdon to miss and most players would have been sore! - losing Langdon had a massive impact on run, defense and transition - losing TMac impacted strength & competitiveness up forward, and in Q3 & 4 would have helped down back (Weid was very disappointing, needs to get moving, because in packs he seems invisible, he took a brilliant grab when he ran and jumped) - losing May & Petty left us totally exposed in the air down back, meaning more players trying to spoil, so if Dockers didn’t mark they had more players on ground. You can just cover one tall going down, but two is a bridge to far without TMac in team. Led to backline losing all shape during the third. - Trac crook and should have missed, just added to lack of run and hurt us in the middle - Melksham has played some really good footy for the Demons over his time at the club, but looks really slow and uncompetitive, would be surprised to see him play too many more games if any. - Jordan gets ball enough but needs to take first option. - Missed a few get shots in first half that could have put us six up at halftime, and then others in the third, that would have made result a lot tighter. - Even best team will lose a few, so not a lot to worry about, unless injuries mount. Can always remember Choco Williams on radio when he was out of system being interviewed and saying absolute rubbish about one soldier replacing another, e.g. if player 1-5 goes out and being replaced by players 23-27 of course it makes you worse! - Bit of luck also helps, e.g. Buddy out next week makes a big difference, helps with May being out. - Were still 10-1, hopefully get a couple back next week (TMac helps structure), Trac fit and a good chance against Swans - watched Tigers vs Swans and a pretty average standard of a game. Go Demons, onwards and upwards, still got to wear my Demons 2021 Premiers cap on morning coffee walk today, Goodwin and team know what it takes to be Premiers!! Fingers crossed on injuries!!

Your analysis of the Demons is better than 98% of the so called experts. A few obvious reasons why: 1. Intelligence to follow the original & best football team!!😃 2. Dedication to analysing the Demons, other than MFC FD you spend a lot of time on our Demons, much more than most of the experts spreading their time across 18 teams! 3. Intellect and analytical capabilities of the highest order! Light years beyond Brereton, King, Corne, Riewoldt etc. Also very funny to see some of the analysts who don’t like Melbourne, still can’t admit after one of the most dominant finals & flag winner season, it’s Melbourne then a huge gap. 4. Craig Jennings last year and Buckley this year both see Demons huge advantage over other teams, starting with team defence, then actual backline, transition once again a team activity, and offense locking it in so repeat opportunity to score while opposition stuck defending, as you mentioned above. Thanks Binman for your time, effort and commitment to the cause, you add enjoyment to my following of the Demons! Honourable mentions to Andy & George!! To all those who love talking up the threats from the rest, focus on the following: - read Binmans analysis - rewatch last years finals and the GF - look at the ladder - finals is what matters (getting into ladder position 1 or 2 helps) - remember Blues, Lions and all the other pretenders haven’t done what Melbourne did last years final series. - Lions are a very good team as they were last year, we beat them by 33 points, 4 goals 9 points , 13 more shots, should have been 10 goals in the finals, and are still well ahead of them. In fact Hunt playing small lockdown role do well, puts them further behind. - Blues have some star power, But are 47% behind us, it is huge. Re practice match, that was lovely for their delusional supporters, see how they go in finals. Demons have nothing to prove, we are reigning premiers, 10-0 on top of ladder, some absolute guns in our team, good depth, players commit to role and way of playing selflessly for the team, everyone else is playing catch up! Generally on commentators, they know their audience don’t want to hear, Demons are 5 goals better than the rest, and only way we don’t win flag is a bad day in September, like Tigers in 2018 prelim, but that’s the reality! After 50 pretty crap years, some exceptionally crap, sit back enjoy the ride, even when we only win by a couple of goals, can’t play great every week! Go Demons, crush those Dockers, but the four points and any margin is still a great day!!

Belonging, success, enjoyment, being a leader all count for a lot. I think he’s Max son George godfather, in Gus & Gawny, will pick up a media gig when he finishes playing!! While money is important, he will be looked after by Demons, yes could get more somewhere else, but likely having the time of his life at he Demons today. He will stay!

System vs Talent: What makes Melbourne so good?
D4Life replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Fortunately read the comments first, so won’t waste my time listening. Dermie hates Melbourne and can’t accept or see what’s obvious. We are a long way ahead of rest of competition, that’s why we are two games clear, and destroyed Lions, Cats & Dogs in last year finals. Andy Maher is harmless, talks too much, thinks Carlton are it. Just forgetting about last years finals , and doesn’t notice that 47% difference is quite a lot. Carlton is circa Demons of 2018, they do have some excellent players in Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Weitering, & Walsh. Max, Clarry, Trac, May, Lever, Salem, Langdon, Brayshaw are all A+ for position they play and our bottom 6 are still very solid. -
In soccer you see the poor teams stack all their players back, to make it really difficult for the better teams to score. Then they try and break away for a lucky goal and win. Fortunately in the AFL this type of approach typically can only minimise the damage. This is what the Demons are running into against the weaker teams. Winning 17 in a row is terrific and we will drop a few games between now and the end of the season. But we know from last year our method and team play sensational finals football. As Goodwin stated last year finals football is a new season and we have proven we can do it! To the sky is falling brigade, let’s see what the Lions, Blues, Freo, Saints can bring come finals time. Tigers can play finals football but they aren’t the team they were!! Go Demons!!
-
A few supporters are hard to please. Early 80s at the G you would only go to watch Robbie! 1st year of Roos and pre Roos there were some horrible losses and we didn’t win to often. We have a great team, who play fantastic team football, with some generational players, who have delivered a flag and taken us to 10-0! So for crying out loud…….Enjoy Every Win! Keep going Demons!!!!

4 points & 10 plus goals would be enjoyable watching!!

Umpires helping Blues

Both ANB & TMac hit a fork in the road end of 2020. Great to see them both lift their games, TMac back to his best of prior years and ANB to have his best year. After a setback you choose what happens in the future and credit to both how they came back and gave everything to succeed. ANB was very impressive, not only did he answer the questions he then explained the relevance to our team. Go mighty Demons!!
-
He is a very smart player, does all the running and defensive actions expected and maximises his possessions. A terrific Demon!!
-
Deedubs=Ignore Demons winning well, not even close to a loss! Aim is top 2 no serious injuries, and a neutral luck finals campaign and we will be back 2 back premiers!!
-
Last year vs Crows thinking pre game couldn’t lose, agree to happily bank the 4 points vs Eagles! Salem to come back soon, Bedford playing well plus Tomlinson, Weideman and Dunstan in VFL should be sufficient pressure for a strong effort and solid win today.
-
It seems like a long wait for Sunday games, least favourite time of the weekend for footy! Waiting Waiting Waiting
-
Melksham deserves 200, pity only 84 for Demons, be good to get him to 100 for Demons, but hard to see!
-
Averages 2 a week and doesn’t need much of it, always dangerous. langdon 9 rnd 7, 39 possessions Rd 8, but Goodwin presser, played his role both rounds. Demons keep structure in place and all ground defence, so all players just play role, and opportunities will come, everyone shares success. = TEAM

Expecting to win well. At some point we drop a few games during the season. Still when look at quality across ground Backs - May Lever Petty Brayshaw Bowey Mids - Max Trac Clarry Langdon Forwards - Fritsch Brown Running power - ANB Kossie Spargo Sparrow Hunt Add system and we look very hard to beat! Go Demons!

Premiership Coach Simon Goodwin extends until 2024

Wholeheartedly agree with majority of sentiments expressed. Great speech by Pert, with underlying message sacrifice and one in all in for success. But my favourite was Goody at the end: - “We’re only getting started boys” Denasty - hear we come!! Go Demons!! -
Back on topic - changes vs Saints: - fingers crossed we’re Covid good Petty - Smith Jackson - Weid or TMac ANB - Melksham Pickett - Bedford Sparrow - Dunstan (stiff) But who knows how everyone pulls up post Covid and if we lose any others!
-
We have 6-7 premiership players out and look what’s left. Our high end talent is just fantastic, as 50 year plus Demon supporter it’s great to be alive!!
-
Note 1 Salem in brackets Gus 😃

Smith has improved, but agree that he seems to give away a couple each week. Still FD picked him ahead of Tomlinson this week, so he must do something right in their view. Personally I go: Talls - 1 May - 2 Lever - 3 Petty (improving very fast, will be long term #1 defensive pillar) - 4 Tomlinson (still recovering from acl) - 5 Smith Smalls - 1 Salem (Gus covering short term will move back to wing) - 2 Bowey (looks like a 200 gamer) - 3 Hunt ( has the speed and can lockdown on the likes of Cameron) - 4 Rivers (. Hasn’t looked 100%) - 5 Hibberd (will continue to be a good backup) - 6 Smith (quick can play on speedier players) As stated by many Smith is an athlete and improving player, but not a natural footballer and occasionally gets lost, leading to 1-2 goals a week that wouldn’t happen with the other defenders named. Still you look at quality we have to select from and that’s why we have best backline bar none. Freo may have let through a few less points, but our backline has missed top players throughout the season and not missed a beat!
