MOMENTUM: A 2021 Grand Final Story
6 months after the big day and watching momentum gave me goosebumps. Unbelievable final series and GF just fantastic, we had to wait 57 years, but made it worth the wait. Would be incredible to be at G and watch them go back-back in 2022! The goals in the third were just electric, Fritsch, Fritsch, BBB, wait a few minutes Brayshaw amazing courage, then Trac, Sparrow & Clarry, awesome! Go Demons!

GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 10 vs Carlton
If the Demons play anywhere near last week they will win comfortably. But different opponents and ground, kick straight and all will be good!😁

Bont is a gun and I couldn’t see how Daniel got a vote ahead of him in Norm Smith!

GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 09 vs Fremantle
The ball movement was a class above anything I’ve seen in the AFLW. Assuming the Demons will gain a lot of confidence from this performance, and build further momentum leading into the finals, have their best chance of winning a flag - Covid willing!

POSTGAME: Community Series vs Carlton
Agree 100%. Small forward or half forward positions, rarely have high stats and when you look at best players have quiet games eg. Papley, Cameron. Kossie still keeps pressure up on his quiet possession days. I don’t think the umpires do him many favours, that missed head high tackle in GF as an example, if he got treated like Selwood would get 3-5 head high frees a week.

Oliver on Petracca
I don’t get to caught up in who is the best player in the league. Petracca, Oliver, Martin, & Bontempelli all terrific players! What I care about is our no. 1 combos: mid - Clarry & Trac (Viney a more than handy 3rd) ruck - Gawn & Dogga back - Lever & May (Salem ) wingers - Angus & Langdon Then I would argue our forward line as a whole group works very well Fritsch arguably best half forward (exc Toby), Pickett & Brown in best 4-5 in their positions, well supported by the rest. Looking forward to another top 4 and hopefully top 2 finish. That enables another crack at the flag. Go Demons!

POSTGAME: Community Series vs Carlton
Can someone please remind me how many goals Pickett kicked last year and was it the final against Brisbane that he kicked 3 goals? This post is up there with the drop Fritsch calls made last year on Demonland! on other matters: I don’t think we dropped 4 points against Carlton? We also didn’t lose by 10 goals, only 5 points after giving away 6 goals through 50 M penalties and a few centre square infringements. Yet Carlton we’re great. Why don’t we wait until the season actually starts before deciding the sky is falling! Goodwin has some good ammunition pre the season starting, if you don’t put in, you won’t get the rewards! Re depth, listen to Choco Williams views - while the mantra is one soldier put another in, when you lose a Gawn, Clarry or Trac, players 23,24,25 can’t replace them. Seems like Demons have reasonable coverage across the ground and that is all you can expect. Every club seems to carry 3-5 players on the list that fans wonder why, there just aren’t many stars waiting to be plucked out of lower leagues! It seems with few injuries that we are well placed going into 2022! Go Demons in 2022, 2021 premiers no matter what happens!😃

POSTGAME: PF vs Geelong
Pickett doesn’t get many frees for someone who cops a lot of head high tackles!! In comparison to Selwood is unbelievable! Melbourne torching Geelong in this game from 5 min mark onwards was excellent, and then to hear Coach excuse Scott topped it off! Just grand!! Max’s 5 was ok to, particularly the 4 in the 3rd, just outrageous!

GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 05 vs Gold Coast
Looking at game highlights 3 of the 9 goals bounced in the goalsquare before going through, I would definitely have a goalkeeper type role in the square!

GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 05 vs Gold Coast
Your spot on re good Women’s sport, golf and Tennis in particular, great skills. As mentioned by another poster, it typically takes a decade for things to pick up, also moving from semi professional to professional makes a big difference.

GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 05 vs Gold Coast
There was a quarter in games against Tigers & Saints where the team moved the ball well and skills were good, last night in congestion skill level was poor. Demons trying to play a high skill level of game, and when skills are poor, makes the team look bad. As coach I would play with a goal keeper minding the goalsquare, as a lot of scrubby kicks go through below head height for goals, I would also ensure two defenders stay in back half of ground, as easy goals come through on break away into empty defence, when all players chasing a kick at other end of the ground. Reminds of the way the mens team defensive unit used to sit too high up the field. Once you keep defensive structure in place throughout the game, you become much harder to score against! Just getting defensive structure in place would give Demons a chance at flag. As Harris provides a great target in forward line, she also should get more frees, as constantly manhandled!

Agree 100%! Kicking for goal is poor! 2-4 and on the full. 3-4 or 4-3 and game almost over. Hoping for accuracy this quarter!

TRAINING: Friday 28th January 2022
Watching the vision of training, the Demons are just so quick and sharp, move the ball so fast and lower their eyes going into F50! It’s still hard to believe it’s our MFC, even after that magnificent GF win, after years of average skill to watch our elite ball movement is bl..dy fantastic! Can’t wait for the season to start!!

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
One of the fantastic things about the Demons awesome flag victory is no matter what happens during the day since Sept 25, I’m only 3 mins 30 seconds from being deliriously happy again, that snapshot of our 7 goals in the third is just pure joy: Harmes to Fritsch then Fritsch Followed by BBB Brayshaw (unbelievable courage) Trac - pure skill Sparrow - - great goal of a step in a phone booth Clarry / Jacko handball perfection I’m not sure if we will ever see a better trio of goals, than the last three in 30 plus seconds to finish the quarter! Sept 25 to now - everyday has a happy ending 😃

TRAINING: Friday 14th January 2022
Reading about ball movement at lightening speed is exciting. While it would be hard to play better than some of what we produced across all the finals, especially the 100-7 finish in the GF, the Tigers improved after winning the 2017 GF, as their players confidence lifted and they just believed. It is a scary thought for the rest of the competition if we improve on our finals efforts, as none of the finalists got close to us, Lions being lucky to lose by only 31 points due to our poor goal kicking. Bring on 2022!

Premier Podcasts in 2022
Just listened to the season ending podcast and wanted to say thanks to Andy, George & Binman for the excellent insights and summaries they provided across the year! I’m looking forward to hearing them again in 2022 as the Demons keep on a winning roll! Hopefully there is a season preview coming up in the near future and a five round update on the AFLW team would be handy! Go Demons in 2022!

Hunt v Bowey and Hibberd v ??
Hunt was very stiff to get injured. In 2021, he defended better, closed down opponents exceptionally well, and teamed with Langdon on many occasions to stream the ball downfield. His ball use improved and I think he provides a little bit of flexibility re he could cover the wing or go forward if needed. Great to see Hibberd win a flag, but he will be under pressure to retain his spot in 2022, other than I like him guarding Dusty against the Tigers. Covid will impact our starting lineup across the year if EPL is any guide, so have 30 plus who can play in the firsts will be more important than in any other season!
