While I love Neitz and would love to support him at all times. I don't believe our midfield is the issue at all. We have a fair bit of talent in their and the problem to me does seem to be the forward set up. Ideally having Newton at Forward pocket and Robbo playing on a flank would make alot of room for Neitz. However, with the big man nearing the end, and Newton the only obvious successor, it could be pointless going to the effort of creating a new Neitz friendly structure when it will need to change soon after. We need to attempt, at the ver least attempt runnin a forward line that is essentially to Full Forwards.

Definately the identity. He is pretty much the only player on the team who anybody would know. Id agree on the heart. How often do you hear about that everything he does lifts and makes every one better. I would even consider agreeing about the soul part. We may not all appreciate him yet, but he has been one of the greatest and most loyal players we have had, naturally in time he will be respected greater.

Bit silly and to bandwagon for me. Sorry to say if we took out Green, Bruce and White we would be terrible. Green was one of very few who at least played decent last year. Bruce was unfit all season (however Brock gets away with that excuse). White is still regarded as a top 5 ruckman in the league. Just a few weeks back Arcger got asked on SEN who the best ruckman in the league were regarding Mcintosh. He said in order id say Cox, White, Lade then Mcintosh. You can't turn over 11 players in one season, I know as a supporter we all get the optimistic look at our young players but there is a high chance that 50% of our players under 22 will be complete duds. But by all means lets get rid of real talent such as White, Green and Bruce, purely because it's all the rage, for young guys like Garland, Zomer and Spencer. Always hear people saying you gotta throw the kids in their so they develop, they could be great if given a chance, let me give you a small slice of reality people, if they are good enough, they will get a chance, Bate did, Bartram did, Davey did, Petterd did, Jones did. Just because a guy is under 22 and wears a Melbourne jumper doesn't mean he won't get pumped at the top level. I do believe we do have some really strong young talent, first off the defense. Players like Frawley, Rivers, Petterd and Bell are all still so young. I believe we have 2 amazing key position players right there and two terrific running backmen who will all be starting 22 for a long time. In the midfield we also have quality kids, Jones is so so young and is looking so so good. From what I saw of the under 18's I really rate Morton, he is not a key position player like people seem to think he could be, a great, Cameron Bruice like midfielder, which by the way isn't a bad thing!! There is also Dunn and Bate who fit into this category as wingmen, Bate is strong and backs himself, is a bit lazy at times but has all the tools. Dunn is skillful and plays with passion. Then you look at Buckley who I personally rate very highly. He has all the attributes the modern midfielder wants. Our forward line still has some great talent, however not as proven as the above mentioned. Newton looks like he has something, he just needs to apply himself better and create more chances, more importantly take those chances. Ive seen Woenamirri play alot and he has all the making of a tough goal scorer like Byron Pickett, like him or hate him he forged a fantastic career. Would also say that players like Valenti, Grimes and Maric can all go but we cannot really be sure yet. Valenti is a ball magnet but he plays like a VFL footballer, he gets and just kicks it. Grimes, I personally believe has something but we don't yet. Maric, I hear alot but of course who knows??? He and Grimes must be given a bit of time yet. These are the main kids who have actually shown something. It is actually a pretty decent look. But to lose our veterans with this young squad and we will be pathetic!! Im sorry but I don't believe that every kid we get is going to be a gem. Because they are not. We could take the approach of Hawthorn and the Saints and stock up on supreme talent. But they haven't done anymore than we ever did in the past 7 seasons. Infact we have in a way done more then both. You cannot always rely on kids, the draft and development in general, you need some veterans who know the AFL game, despite what people believe, it is a lot harder than the VFL or junior comps!! I would hope our best 22 in 09 would look like this. Mainly young talent but a few experienced and talented veterans in the team. And no outlandish picks who have not proved anything other than that they are on the list. B: Bell Carroll Frawley HB: Bartram Rivers Petterd C: Green Jones Buckley HF: Morton Miller Bruce F: Davey Newton Robertson R: White Mcdonald Mclean Inter: Meesen Moloney Whelan Sylvia Emergencies: Valenti, Woenamirri, Paul Johnson

Melbourne v North Melbourne NAB Challenge Squads
Demons 32 replied to Apocalypse XXXI's topic in Melbourne Demons
Meesen has played every pre-season game and will miss this one, doesn't mean he has lost it to PJ. In fact id take it as he is getting a quick rest before season starts. -
Mcnamee has confirmed he was interviewed and is interested, well according to SEN, so says a guy at work.

BUCKS!!!!!!!!

Well I am also happy to say that my 2 brothers and I are all going to be MFC members this year. Convinced the oldest to sign up, he never did cause in all honesty he isn't a big time supporter. Actually isn't really a supporter of sport in general, I just came to the conclusion of he has the money easily, so sign up!! I have been buying a junior membership and donating to the club for years now but never bothered signing up myself. However me and my other older brother (middle of the 3) are signing up this year! We just never bothered because we are already MCC members and there is nothing and MFC membership can do for an MCC member. And before that we just went as guests to every game in the AFL members with our Dad. But fair enough at that time I was below 16 and really couldn't afford a membership. But now as we have become older (19 and 23) we not only have the funds but realise it is our responsibillity to become members. What right do we, or any of us who claim to be Melbourne supporters, have to go to every game in Victoria and see our great team play if we are not members, if we are not doing even more to help our club, help them to not just survive, but push forward into a new era. An era where we leave behind, but respect, the past 40 odd years and look forward to a safe and vibrant future. I know what I am doing next pay day. Signing up, and so we all should. I won't be doing the 40 dollar membership crossed with the MCC. As I believe that isn't enough respect for the club. I am going to be buying a 150 dollar MCC/MFC membership, two 55 dollar junior memberships. One for my niece and one to donate back to the club to try and push on some kid somewhere, and I will be buying one for my slowly but surely budding MFC supporter of a girlfriend. It has taken to our 3rd year but she is beginning to ditch her history with the Saints and join the Melbourne Football Club. I plead with all of you to do the same. Re-join. Join for the first time. Feel the pride that Mousey is. Convince people you know. Do everything you can. Let's turn it around. Go Dees!!

WHAT?? We don't even know if Grimes and Maric are quality kids yet. Their just kids and Petterd has only played a handfull of games. I really hope not but all 3 could still end up duds. Just cause Maric and Grimes were drafted high it doesn't mean they will amount to anything better than Green or Bruce.

What player isn't better when they are winning? I hate that stuff, it is just a comment to bag out. Every player in a team game needs to be winning the ball for the next man to be playing well, it's how it works. Need other people doing their job constantly to do yours.
-
I remember. I also remember starting a thread last season saying how good he is gonna be. Hence the sig. Always loved this guy, all last year I kept saying, play Buckley, play Buckley then they did, now lets see is he can prove why people like Mousey and I said it.
-
I can't believe anyone can question Bucks but can think Bode belongs out there. Buckley is a gun!!! See the way he ran through bloke with his shoulders high with blistering pace, almost Judd like out there.
-
As my signature has said for a few weeks. Buckley is the next big thing at MelbourneFC. I rated Meeson, definately better than Jamar/PJ already. Valenti went hard, loves to get tackled haha. Reminds me of a lesser Sam Mitchell. Bode proved what I said last year, he isn't top 22 standard and now im shattered he is on senior list while Woenamirri and Valenti aint. Woenamirri, my god is he quick!!! He could be the next Byron Pickett with that stocky body and pace (the good bits of Byron). It was a shame we didn't get much of a look at our forwards, including Robbo. Weetra, Newton, Robbo, Woenamirri, Maric etc, the ball just wasn't there enough. Sylvia did some good things in the third, loved when he used his body legally and knocked that Geelong bloke down. Overall, the only guys I see getting a game in Round 1 that weren't in last years 22 are Meeson, Newton still and Buckley. The usuals should and will take the other spots. I would include Aussie and Valenti pushing for 22 but seeing as they can't get in the senior team permantly being rookie listed.
-
Why do you think our pick 14 won't be better?
-
I think we would all rather that in the season but the nab cup is different, try out our future team.
-
Buckley for sure!!! 20 bucks on him.
-
I suggest you learn how to reply without the attitude. And read the first line of my post instead of just the team. Says who I would like to see play, not who is gonna be in the team. Even if everyone was healthy, that's my team.
-
Here is the side I would like to see in the NAB cup. B: Bell, Frawley, Whelan HB: Davey, Rivers, Grimes C: Morton, Buckley, Moloney HF: Green, Miller, Bate F: Weetra, Newton, Yze R: Meeson, Jones, Sylvia Inter: Woenamirri, White, Bode, Valenti, Martin, Yze. Backline reasons! I want Frawley on who im assuming will be Hawkins. Rivers on Mooney. I want Davey to be coached by Bailey to be the next Burgoyne, streaming off half back flank. Grimes is gonna be great for us, I feel he will be this years Petterd. Midfield reasons! I rate Buckley HIGHLY. I say throw a fitter Sylvia and Meeson in there. Lets see what they can bring early. Please be good Meeson. Morton playing a Cameron Bruce role. Forward line Reasons! I wanna see what a energised Miller can do at CHF. Throw Newton at FF, continue to develop him as the future FF, don't take him up the ground. Give Weetra a run and see what he can produce. Another observation! I have very high hopes for Woenamirri so bring him on fresh and see him run down everyone (the next Byron.... the good bits about him). I wanna see what Yze can deliver very early.
-
Woenamirri has always played in the backline. With Davey, Yze, Maric and Weetra, why would we take him out of his usual position?
-
Always said it to anyone who would listen, long before joining demonland, he is gonna be wiked.
-
All good stuff. Love the talk of Buckley! Hope we blitz Geelong round 1 of NAB cup and get some more members on from that game alone. While it may sound good to hear people who try will get a game over lacklustre talent, I don't really rate it. Thats how we will end up with more Nicho's, williams and Godfreys in the team. Im sorry but I'll take Bruce over Godders anyday of the week.

Brad Miller and his appointment
Demons 32 replied to Spin-it-to-Goodwin-it's topic in Melbourne Demons
Miller ain't no Jonathon Brown but that is an insult to put him in that category. -
MFC Best and Fairest: Cameron Bruce (will step up and be the player he was pre Guerra) MFC best team player: James Mcdonald (Jmac won't get a third Bluey but will still be a great team player and on-field leader) MFC best clubman: Brad Green (will prove why he should have been in the leadership group in my opinion) MFC most improved: Simon Buckley (I think he will take huge steps and become the player ive always known he could be) MFC Most Consistent: Nathan Jones (will slug it out the way he always does, every single week) MFC Best First Year player: Jack Grimes or Woneamirri (I see Grimey, while being a high pick doing a Petterd, Bartram and Jones and practiculary cemented his spot for the future first year. Also I think Woneamirri will break onto scene and play alot of seniors straight up, much like Davey) MFC Leading Goalkicker: David Neitz (maybe wishful thinking to go against Robbo but im confident big Neita will be fit and firing in our 150th year, Captain Neita, what a champion) Most votes in Sandringham’s best and fairest by a Melbourne player: Valenti should play alot of games for Sandy and we all know how well he already blends with the VFL style and the Zebras) CAN'T WAIT, LETS GO THE MFC!!!
