  1. It's a no from me as well although I can see the reasoning behind it. I think we need to be careful with who we select in terms of experienced players at the latter stage of their career. Getting an O'Keefe, for example, would see us take someone who is a different player from Cross and who also plays a completely different role (half forward, where we struggle). There isn't anything that really sets Raines apart from our list outside of his experience and, like I say, I don't think that's enough to warrant us getting him. Decent tagger but doesn't bring a whole lot else to the table IMO.
  2. It's another thread from the pie night. I'm happy to be corrected but I believe he said they won't take Wright and then stopped short of elaborating.
  3. Interesting article in the sun re: tall players other clubs may be interested in: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/top-10-key-position-players-afl-clubs-will-be-seeking-out-during-the-trade-period/story-fn6cisdj-1227037854128 Interested to hear other posters thoughts on who might be worth a look. Knowing that Roos doesn't like drafting talls (and he has said we won't take McCartin or Wright if they are available) do you think we might make a move for one or two of these, particularly with Chip probably moving on at the end of the year?
  4. On to the next one hey dazzle? The Salem one crashed and burned so let's hope you do better with this one.
  5. I couldn't agree more. As I said earlier in the thread someone like Salem is the very least of our current worries. So much more to fix than a first year player who has shown a bit and spent half of his games as the starting sub.
  6. Some posters need something to whinge about each game, and make their own self important thread about it, and the usual players have either run out of gas or had enough threads as it is. All they have left are the young kids to have a crack at.
  7. Dawes has been poor in the second half of this season and I wouldn't dispute that for a second. However he is still miles ahead of Fitzpatrick due to his experience and leadership on the field (note that I have not included consistency and overall ability there). Realistically the bloke won't be dropped unless he has 3 zero disposal games in a row. Just can't see it happening. Gawn is a ruck prospect but they have gone with Pedersen as the pinch hitter when Jamar doesn't play as well or vice versa, and that's over Fitzy who is taller than Pedersen. Gawn and Fitzy, to me, are the only ones who can be classified as not being given enough time to settle, so claiming it's a 'revolving door policy' is a bit over the top.
  8. Not much I guess, but clearly he is about 6th in line with a fit squad to pick from. He kicked two goals last night and did okay but earlier in the season, when the heat was really on, he couldn't get anywhere near it. When he played last year the heat was also off - I just don't think he is as good as some think he really is. Plus he doesn't have the ability to play elsewhere like others do, which leaves him further behind the pack.
  9. He brings one thing to our list that we don't have enough of - run. Bail runs both ways and, some dodgy disposal aside, has been a positive for us this season. Will definitely stay in my opinion.
  10. Over who though? He isn't a backman and, at AFL level, he isn't really a ruckman either. The forward line is his only option, and at the moment he is well and truly behind Dawes, Hogan, Jamar, Pedersen and Gawn. And we won't play all of those 5 each week either. He either REALLY lifts his game or gets sick of playing in the magoos and asks to be traded.
  11. Or he could just be sore in general after having not played football since February. Standard stuff really.
  12. And every single player you've listed has spent considerable amounts of time in the midfield and, therefore, have been given far more opportunities to make that impact. Salem is a midfielder playing as a forward pocket/half forward this year and he has shown, particularly early in the season, that he has the attributes to make it at this level.
  13. Bit hard playing in a dysfunctional forward line though. Taylor and Billings haven't had to deal with that, and both have spent more time up and the ground and in the midfield than Salem has. The kid is tough, has good skills and knows how to kick a goal. Finding his feet at AFL level and making more of an impact will come in time. Plus it's a bit harsh to have a crack at his disposal count when he has spent probably half of his games as the starting sub. Far more pressing worries than Salem.
  14. I can see where the improvement will come - we have some players who are worth persisting with going forward and plenty who aren't, and the improvement will come further with those players no longer on the list and (hopefully) better players replacing them.
  15. The changes made little sense really. If he wanted to play Fitzy and Pedersen then at least one of Gawn or Jamar needed to miss as well. Riley would have been handy tonight as he can at least provide a bit of run around the ground. Makes little difference though.
  16. We were never going to win so dissecting the changes makes little difference, but, we clearly went into the game too tall and Bail's game is proof of that. Take out clangers etc. for the moment and the bloke had the ball 24 times and ran hard all night, something you need in Perth. We were short a few and it hurt us overall as our talls really couldn't get into the game. Everything else went as usual though, but one positive is that we kicked more than Carlton... so it's something. Bring on the pre-season.
  17. Easiest decision the channel has ever made, and they would have made that decision before the start of the season. No-one wants to watch our game, not even us. Salem is the starting sub with Nic Nat a late withdrawal. Might keep the margin under 10 goals.
  18. Must admit that I haven't seen much of him, although he would be an upgrade on someone like Fitzpatrick and even a potential replacement for someone like Chip. I'd hazard a guess and say Carlton, St. Kilda and the Dogs will all chase someone like him very hard and they would have the cap room to make him a very decent offer. Not saying we won't chase him or that we can't get him, just that there will be plenty of competition for his signature.
  19. I'll give you credit in that your trades do have some basis in reality, unlike others claiming the Dogs would cough up Pick 6 for Watts and a 2nd rounder. If Strauss was to be traded anywhere it would be the Swans. Mitch Morton is a prime example here - useless at his former club but gave something up north. The other trades seem relatively close to value, although I'm not convinced guys like Schroder and Lyons necessarily add something super positive to our list, but they can't be any worse than what we have.
  20. Nope, although you might have missed the Adelaide game. Let's see if we can go round in circles.
  21. So after making good strides this year as a club we are now going as far as being hypothetically 'unviable' after one terrible performance at the end of the year? God help us.
  22. Absolutely spot on. Salem has showed a bit this year but nothing like what Kelly has shown.
  23. No worries lads. What about our 4th rounder for G. Ablett? Reckon the Suns might go for it because the end of season is bizzare and anything can happen and everything on our list is worth plenty, even though we are still second last on the ladder, but that shouldn't stop us.
  24. Bargain package? You're making stuff up now. I'm very happy with Tyson and Salem, don't get me wrong, but did you happen to watch Josh Kelly's game on the weekend? That kid is going to be a star in a few years time. As I said earlier that trade was a win/win. The Watts trade is totally bargain basement for us and a complete rip off for the Dogs, and therefore it won't be done. And I don't know who these people are who didn't expect us to offload that pick when all Roos did was talk about how it was on the table all the time during last off season.
