He played a straight bat, but what else did we expect? Re: Goodwin - he wasn't going to give anything away, and I don't think his comments change what we might do. How many coaches, in many sporting professions, get the backing of those above, only to lose their job not long after? If we lose our last two games, which obviously causes us to miss finals, then I would suspect their thinking would change dramatically. He was never going to drop anyone in it and cause further issues at this point of the season. They can worry about that once the season is over.- Brad Crouch
That's the problem - I don't think we have the coin to pursue him. I also think, if we were to make a splash, we would do so for another winger, or even another key forward to complement the Weid/Jackson combo. I don't see a Brad Crouch as a desperate need for us.- Brad Crouch
We're no chance. Sounds like Geelong is in the box seat, but could easily stay or go to Port. I don't think we're in the calculations at all.- Quinton Narkle
I'd take a look at him, although his injury history doesn't do much for me. If we delisted someone like Bedford, then I'd be happy to nab him for a late pick to fill that spot. If it works out then great but, if not, we haven't lost too much.- Gary Pert on The Deebrief
Is that you, Steve? Edit - missed the thread you started. Good to have you back.- The Travel Factor
That's slightly harsh. I don't think @Engorged Onion is using it as an excuse. And I don't think any Melbourne supporter really wants excuses anymore. What we've served up recently is inexcusable. However, the above table is something that can't be ignored, as its fact. Has all that travel begun to catch up with us a little, and contributed slightly to our recent performances? Probably. But if we miss finals, it won't save Goodwin's job I'd say. He can't go in and complain about the travel and so forth. He has to own it. But, for us supporters, there is some merit in what Engorged has posted.- NON MFC: Round 16

Incredible result.- Who should our next coach be?
Yep, you're right there. I always remember him signing the new three year deal which officially put him out of the running.- Who should our next coach be?
He decided on Goodwin because Dew turned the role down.- Jason Taylor
Based on, at least, Jackson and Rivers. Pickett has had his moments, although he has certainly been up and down with his form.- Jason Taylor
If what I said was negative, you would have nodded your head and gone along with it. But if I bring up facts that state he has done something good for the club, you deflect it and give it no credit. That's a rare skill.- Oh, the irony
Board: So, Simon. Want went wrong this year? Goodwin: It's all Conor McKenna's fault!- CHANGES: Rd 17 vs GWS
Not sure what everyone else thinks, but with finals pretty much out of the picture, you've got to look towards next year. So, give the kids like Pickett, Bedford, Baker etc another crack. Get Lockhart in there. As much as I love him, keep Jetta out of there and I'd keep Jones out as well, although you get the feeling his season is done. I'd keep Gus out of the side for the year with the footy injury. Even if he is close to full fitness, I'd keep Jackson out until next year. No need to stick him in there for no reason. So, going by the above I'd go... er.... In: Lockhart, Brown (goes against everything in terms of looking to the future, but a bloke with no arms could do better than Preuss in the forward line.) Out: Hibberd (give the ankle a rest), Preuss. But, really, it's a bit 'meh' this week.- Jason Taylor
We got Jackson, Pickett and Rivers out of our last draft. I'd say that was a clear win. Well done Jason Taylor.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
- Who should our next coach be?
The bloke is past it. You are spot on about his time with West Coast, but that's an eternity ago. He's done okay at the Bombers prior to this year, but he would feel like stepping sideways than stepping up if we appointed him. I know we can do better.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle

I disagree slightly. How do we know that they hadn't already spoken to him? We don't know and that's why I asked. If they showed that vision of them coming in, sitting down etc and ignoring each other, then that's absolutely poor and you'll hear no argument from me. I just don't like to assume that it happened like that. Just seems like a slightly long bow to draw based on a minute of vision. How do we know they didn't spend time with each other after the vision finished? Or prior? We don't. I know it looks like I'm trying to make excuses, but really, I'm not. I'd just like to think our players would have gotten around them outside of the small piece of vision that was shown.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
How long had they been off the ground for when this vision was shown? I only ask because: If it was straight after the game, then that's not a good look at all. If it was taken 5 minutes after, then we can only assume it's not a good look as we don't know what happened prior. Either way, it doesn't take anything away from the current lack of leadership that still hangs amongst this playing group.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
I was happy at the time to back this move, Luther. He is strong enough and quick enough to play on medium or small players, and his disposal is generally not too bad either, so in that instance it made sense. But he looks lost down there. If he wanted to get him out of the midfield for whatever reason, then he should have shifted him forward where he has played some good footy in the past. It's turned out to be a shocker of a decision.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
