  1. hands down the most inept accredited media person going around. I'll never forget his interview with geelong ruckman Mark Blake, after Blake was dropped from the grand final side the night before "So Mark what are your feelings right now, are you disappointed?" Someone get this guy a Walkley!
  2. Thanks for the report Bhima, great appreciated. I also find it staggering that we havent been practicising this kind of full ground pressure all summer, COllingwood lead the way with it last year and won a flag. We're not still trying to imitate Geelongs style of play are we? And the table in the Herald Sun today showing us second last on the forward pressure ladder was damning. If Aaron Davey is not in the side I'd imagine our figures would be significantly worse.
  3. So no Bartram, Grimes and Davey off the top of my head. Would've thought Jamar would be rested also...
  4. On a Malthouse related note, how on earth did this prickly selfish human being ever get to become the King of Moomba? This is the same man that called Milne a [censored] rapist, denied it and then gave the worst limpest excuse ever, and now he's showing the way for the kids at Moomba? Wow.
  5. Players dont 'love their clubs' anymore, they're gainfully employed by them. If you worked at Westpac and got offered triple your salary to goto ANZ, would you stay for the love of the bank and your workmates, or chase the money? Shane Woewodin loved the footy club it helped him get a Brownlow. Cameron Bruce loved the footy club it helped him win a best and fairest. They were there for more than 2 years, but it didnt stop them looking after their own interests ahead of the club. Club loyalty is a redundant and oft-misused word nowadays.
  6. I'va I believe this is the tweet, that may have been misconstrued as meaning a presser to say he's re-signed by some on here: ".Scully should play next week. If he does, is likely to break silence in lead up to game with "all-in" press conference. Good call by Dees. 8:28 PM Feb 24th via Twitter for iPhone "
  7. Surely we must have some memorabilia of worth? Premiership Cups, flags , old guernseys, photos etc? Who decides how much some of this stuff is worth? I'm envious of Hawthorn and Essendon having 'museums' at their respective grounds, and the couple of times I've been into the Lexus Centre (westpac centre, whatever) I've been very impressed with the amount of stuff they have on display as well. I know we have our cups displayed in the rather limited public space at the front of our admin at AAMI but thats all as far as I know of our history on display (there may be the odd piece at the MCG Sports Museum too from memory).
  8. We shall wait and see on this one. Fingers and everything else crossed! BUT..does this mean GWS will target one of our other off-contract players?
  9. Well done to both Nutbean and Hardtack, thats a fantastic result to get a differing point of view to the AFLs (or the authors) up on their own wesbite. Begrudging kudos to the AFL for allowing this sort of thing to get published also.
  10. Overtraining syndrome? Ive never heard of such a condition. So is that what I get when I walk four city blocks instead of the normal two during my lunchtime?
  11. Some other snippets from my scattershot memory that may or may not have already been raised here: -Brian Dixon was congratulated on his elevation into the AFL Hall of Fame, as well as his work to promote the code overseas. Cameron Schwab mentioned we need to get more players from that great era in there also. -The emotion and what it meant for Gary Marchant to win the best volunteer award was amazing. He could barely continue his speech such was his joy and gratitude. You couldn't meet a nicer bloke than Gary, always willing to give you some little insights into the game from the stats-box perspective in my encounters with him. -Martin Flanagans thoughts on doorman Arthur Wilkinson, passed on by Don McLardy, were fantastic. Wilkinson started at the club when Checker Hughes was coach, and apparently he's a man with 1000 stories to tell about the club. Flanagans words parlayed one such story whereby the coach said no-one was to enter the change rooms. That day he didnt even let Billy Snedden in! -The potential new training base/hq out at docklands is still very much at the proposal stage (stage 1, of 10 stages if you like). As an adjunct to this the agreement we currently have at Aami Park is renegotiable every 5 years so if we find a better alternative we have an 'out'. -Chris Connolly as always had a few zingers. When talking to the two new leadership guys in Jones and Grimes he asked both of them indivually if they voted for one another in the vote, putting them right on the spot. They did, for the record. -Special mention was made of Junior McDonald and what a fantastic job he'd done for the club. -This year for mine was notable in that there were no life members inducted. -Bailey spoke about getting 22 more games into the likes of James Frawley, from 60 to 82. Someone later asked the question "Does that mean we wont be playing finals? Shouldnt the aim be more than 22 games?" Thats it for now. Some of these numbers above may be a bit rubbery, but you get the gist. Another entertaining night, you know whenever these nights come around every year that the footy isnt too far off so it gets the blood pumping!
  12. Green had Gastro thats why he wasnt playing. Jones got a knock on the back injury he had hence not playing. Warnock got 'a knock' hence isnt playing. I was hugely impressed by Strauss as the game wore on, I'm not a fan of his but may have to change my mind after today. Scully was an absolute gem to watch, he was everywhere and silky. Grimes was knocked up getting the footy with some of those trademark angled runs from defence. Watts got better and better the more the game went on, he repeatedly found space and was able to read the play better than most. There was a 'ranga sandwich' at one stage as Cameron Johnston laid a pack-forming tackle on Bate. THere were quite a few quips about the scenario around me. So many players swapped sides at half time it was hard to keep up. Seemingly all the influential 'white' players changed to blue after the break. Of the new boys, Cook is a good size albeit still obviously a bit light, but he seems to posess a good leap. Howe definitely looks a prospect, although a shot for goal he had from 35 out barely made it over the man on the mark, it looked like nerves to me you could tell by the way he was fidgeting with the ball in his runup. He was involved in quite a few very nice passages of play. First time I've seen Gawn and he looks likely although didnt come back out. Disappointing Blease only had a very short run. I wish we'd rookie'd Matt Fieldsend, the little nuggety bloke is a goer as anyone who saw Casey last year would know. Finally, a taste of footy! Roll on next Friday.
  13. Take it with a grain of salt (or a whole handful if you like) but Chip posted on his Twitter a short while ago that he's started rehab and may even be a chance for Round 1. Also of note he mentioned the only 3 other players in rehab at this time are Robbie Campbell,Juice Newton and Jordy Gysberts. This is a good sign for that list to be so small, given what we've seen at North, Freo and Carlton already.
  14. Congratulations to Greeny, well earnt in my opinion. I like what they've done with the official website too, with Green a standalone graphic on the left hand side, and his three vice captains on the other, albeit with some dodgy masking on the Davey image!
  15. Whats all this talk about Mick? I thought Molloy was a tigers man through and through. Get him on the Visy payroll to throw old jokes at the suits at some corporate days at the Factory, get Judda$ to assemble a cardboard box for the kids to play in. Barrel O Laughs.
  16. Hi, my name is Brent Moloney. You may have heard of me I play football for the Melbourne Demons Football Club: Proof Please dont confuse me with Brent Maloney, who has never played with the Melbourne Demons like I have. I have never met this Maloney fellow, and I dont know why people keep including him in their best Demons sides. I have now played 85 games for the Demons, I cant remember him playing any. Thanks for reading! Brent Maloney Moloney
  17. Here's a few more I have as well as the above mentioned: The Urge to Merge - Ian Ridley (2002) Diamonds and Demons - Joe Gutnick (2000) 125 Years of the Melbourne Football Club - Greg Hobbs (1983) Bluey Truscott - Ivan Southall (1958) Encyclopedia of League Footballers (Melb Edtn) - Holmesby/Main (2004)
  18. Maybe thats the supporters view, but the selection committee think otherwise: "He is a hard-working and durable midfielder, having played 92 matches since debuting in round 18, 2006. The 22-year-old has missed just four games since his first match." -From the aforementioned article.
  19. I got it directly from one of the trainers as he was leaving the session, although I cant verify if he did it in that session (Mondays) or an earlier one.
  20. I do know that from todays training session Jordan Gysberts did his hamstring, a 3-4 week tear apparently.
  21. Ive got 2 apps installed on my droid, the aforementioned Total Footy, as well as Footy Scoreboard. Both are fairly underwhelming, so hoping some new ones will be released before next years season commences!
  22. Someone call in the PC Police. Should we get rid of our traditional western medicine doctors and their techniques if it offends some of our aboriginal players who have traditionally used their own methods? Would it make you feel more comfortable if his official title was 'counsellor' rather than chaplain? This bloke does an invaluable job at the club and your questioning his role and worth?
  23. How many times have Qatar qualified for the World Cup? 0 They're the 51st ranked side in the World. I'm sure Demetriou and co down at City Hall are rubbing their hands with glee right now.
  24. Zinko played 3 games for 3 goals, my Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers -Melb Edition tells me. And hes the last player listed in the alphabetical book! Given his height and goals per game average of 1.0 youd expect he was a forward goal sneak, but thats only a wild guess. Some of the players occupations are fantastic from this book : Farmer, Sales Trainee, Light Representative(?), Car Salesman, Law Student etc etc. If I get time i'll do a new thread and post all the scans Ive done of this book (so as to not hijack this one too much more).
