No 3 word analysis on the players games from Joeboy for this one?

Cats and Saints should not be allowed to play finals at the G
DemonDave replied to Deeman's topic in Melbourne Demons
It also costs significantly less to goto a Home and Away game on Queens Birthday than it does an AFL final, some of the ticket prices for this weekend were ridiculously high! -
Thanks for the updates everyone! And well done to the winners. Why is it that Kyle Cheney is listed in the full list, played 2 games but scored no votes, yet James Strauss did not rate a mention for the same output? It even states on the official MFC review of the votes Bluey2010 that Strauss did not play a game in 2010! Come on we know it was a long time ago Rounds 1 and 2 but give the kid a break!

I thought for a minute`Id logged onto a Hawthorn board and was reading about Buddy Franklin there for a minute. The parallels between them are closer than some people may like to admit.

I wouldve thought, with Bruce able to be slotted onto the veterans list this year in place of McDonald, that a pay cut wouldnt be necessary, as we could simply continue to pay him the same amount, but half of it is now exempt from the salary cap. Of his B&F finishes, these are the ones I can find: 2001 - 9th 2002 - 2nd 2003 - 6th 2006 - 2nd 2008 - 1st 2009 - 3rd Not bad!

Brett Kirk is retiring this year, and will probably finish just shy of 200 consecutive games. Who's got the most consecutive for the Demons? Following in the rucking traditions of Big Jim, its none other than Mark Jamar, on a whopping 23 game streak. Who would've thought, being so injury prone for his first 5 or 6 years that he'd one day be leading this stat?

Who will take the reins from Junior..?
DemonDave replied to demondomination's topic in Melbourne Demons
I voted for Green. An ultimately useless but nonetheless interesting fact: This year will be the first time in his career Brad Green has played every home and away round! -
Haha, I love the froth and bubble posters get themselves into on here about players like Thorp, Daw, Temel and the like. There's a reason all of those players were overlooked. Remember the hubub over Sibosado? Still yet to play a game at the Shockers and posters were furious we picked some unknown country kid instead of him. That kid, Jordie McKenzie goes alright.

Just having a look at the ladder last night our wins this year have been against teams in positions (as of now): 15th x 2, 14th, 13th x 2, 12th, 10th, 5th and a draw against the Top side. This needs to be taken into account I believe when rating how we've gone this year.

Read the sentence after that to put it into context. Its called sarcasm.

Yes the same bunch of sooks that are constantly complaining in the media that they dont get enough recognition for their youngsters that we do. They just beat the Wooden Spooners for 2010 yesterday, what a courageous effort. And if we happen to beat them this week we'd finish a mere half a game behind them for the year. Look at their performances against the Top 4 and the aggregate margins of those games compared to ours.

If sentiment is weak then as well as not playing Miller next week, we also dont play James McDonald. If neither are going to be around next year, using your rationale they both get quietly put out to pasture without giving the fans the chance to say goodbye to 2 players in our Leaderhip Group who have given 20+ years of service collectively to this this club. I look forward to cheering them both off next week after a win against the bunch of sooks led by 'Bloomer' Harvey. Would love to see Miller smash into him and tell him thats a payback for getting Lynden Dunn reported. But I digress.

Morton went missing for huge lengths during the game, just because one report lists him in the best doesnt mean he was, he was appalling today. Same with Trengove, he looked listless at times, how he gets in the best is baffling. You can gloat all you want, but theres no way Morton or Trengove deserve to be in the best today

If a player is stretchered off, they are not allowed to return to the field for 20 minutes. This rule was introduced due to David Parkin deploying the stretcher as a delaying, cooling off tactic (most noticeably I think it was Barry Mitchell against us at the MCG many moons ago) when opposition teams got on a run. Thus if anyone saw the Freo-Sydney game the reluctance of the Swans to make the call of sending the stretcher out for Jarrad Moore at a crucial stage late in the 3rd quarter, only reluctantly calling for it after he fell over for about the third time due to his heavy concussion/hit to the head and thus ruling him out for effectively the rest of the game. At the time, it was impossible to tell how bad Daveys injury was, and by the time he got nearer to the bench he was actually limping-jogging off unassisted.

He can spend some quality time with his brother Alwyn who broke his arm a few weeks ago. Not an ideal way to end the year for Aaron, but given our finals campaign is all but over, we can at least replace him with some more kids...

You forgot this player: A Jakovich 78

Finally someone willing to congratulate Miller rather than bag him! What more does he have to do? I didnt see Bate or Newton kick ten goals today, nor have I seen too many other forwards in the comp this year kick ten against the GC backline. Why cant people see this for what it was, a bloody brilliant individual game by Miller, rather than dismissing it due to circumstance? For those that didnt see the game but are still willing to give their judgement on Millers game today, yes a lot of his marks were contested packs or one-on-one marks, and to contrast this yes he did miss 2 or 3 easy shots at goal. Yet others from 45-50 out he comfortably drilled. Is he part of our future? Probably not. But he has for now justifiably put himself back in the selection frame.

Tapscott was reasonably busy early in the game although some of his kicks were sprayed. He seemed to disappear somewhat in the 2nd half as we gained momentum. Blease was hardly sighted early, which is understandable as he worked his way into the game adjusting to the pace, but wow that last quarter and a half really showed glimpses of the future the way he was able to find space and break lines. Don't think he'd get a senior AFL game before the end of the year, and on that performance likewise Tapscott, but you can see he'd probably adjust quite comfortably to life at AFL level.

Jones is stiff, but going forward these are the hard decisions we will frequently have to make. Gives him more chances to go surfing and update his twitter account I guess. Could we see in a year or so these sort of players being placed up for trade for a particular deficiency we may need to fill, ie. theyre still young and an attractive proposition for other sides?

Im a huge fan of Bartram, I get much more satisfaction watching a player with limited skills who has to work hard and persevere to make it such as Barts, versus a player blessed with oodles of natural talent who doesnt apply himself but merely coast through games (see Johnstone). I watched the game again this morning and this one incident caught my eye, I hadnt noticed it on the night. Another fine example of what Barts offers to the team.

Fantastic result for the Scorps! Against the odds, that consolidates our spot in the Top 4. That young Buckley kid for Collingwood sounds like a goer, maybe we should trade for him?
-
Would hardly think the ideal time to trial someone down the opposite end of the ground to which they have become accustomed to would be in their first senior game in 16 months. Hes had 14 weeks down at Casey with a chance to make himself more adaptable. Jetta would surely break his goal duck if that matchup occured. No-one has advocated Bartram being dropped yet, despite being named in the 18. Whats going on?

Have a look at the way Ablett gets a good proportion of his possessions. In an almost identical fashion to Davey. You need to get the ball in the hands of people who either use it well, or have the ability to break lines and open things up.

And its replayed on Foxtel on Wednesday at I think 4:30PM, for those that got to the game without remembering to IQ it. Sorry cant help with 7Two. They do have online tv guides, you could look that up...

Cotchin? Roughhead? J Selwood? Petterd? Hurley? All of these guys were dead-set certs to goto GC in the last 12 months, and they've all re-signed. Take any speculation on players to GC with a large grain of Saxa table salt.
