  1. Kyle Cheney named as one of the interchange froms for the Hawks as well...
  2. No Bartram! and Jetta and Bennell somehow survive. Great to see the younger Tommy Mac get named emergency for the first time...
  3. Have a look at the all time list of players win-loss% (with a min 50 games), any wonder these guys are 'sick' of losing: 21St- 20.91% Matthew Warnock (11W-1D-43L) 22nd- 21.30% Cale Morton (11-1-42) 25th- 27.23% Nathan Jones (26-3-72) 28th- 30.81% Matthew Bate (26-1-59) 29th- 31.16% James Frawley (21-1-47) 38th- 33.77% Lynden Dunn (25-2-50) Shocking figures. The top two are the worst of any League current players. Any wonder the culture of losing is ingrained in their psyche. (Source: All Time Losers)
  4. Ive never heard Matty Warnocks name mentioned on any of their twitter banter. Does this mean he has also been ostrasiced by the cool kids, as they figure he's off to the Suns on a multi year million dollar deal? Say it aint so!
  5. Just because you were 'tough' during your playing days doesnt mean this translates to being a brilliant coach who can instill this quality in your charges. As Rhino said, if its such a genius plan how come he hasnt been coaching non-stop since the end of his playing days? By that basis David Rhys-Jones and Dennis Banks would be peers with Norm Smith and Jock McHale.
  6. You can bold McDonald and Davis as well, theyre both on our senior list...
  7. Yet the article from the AFL states: "The merger was originally proposed to members of the Bentleigh Club in July 2010, after discussions with its board."
  8. The minimum list changes each year as I also understand it is 3. Whats to stop us 'downgrading' some of our fringe youngsters who dont have any trade currency such as Strauss and Fitzpatrick back to the Rookie list? It means having to delist them and take the chance no-one else will rookie them first, but it worked for Newton and McNamara this year. Otherwise its tough picking out of contract candidates, which is a good thing! The list still needs further balancing i think, too many tall developing players not enough smaller onballers, as has been seen in the last fortnight with two rookie listed onballers getting a game ahead of highly drafted kids who have had stagnated developement.
  9. I think we also have to keep in mind this week will be Jurrahs ninth game, equalling the most he has played in a row for the seniors so far. He's still so so new to the game we cant expect a sustained level of brilliance without slight form drops over longer stretches.
  10. FWIW, according to the live streaming chat on afl.com, Nicholson has been bought onto the senior list to take Grimes' spot, as he has (already) been placed on the LTI list.
  11. Some more quality journalism from everyones favorite trash-rag the Herald Sun. Check out the snippet from this article: Its Not Too Hard Being Green "Green's teammate Brock McLean said the team would keep faith in second-string ruckman Stefan Martin in the absence of Mark Jamar. ''Obviously Jamar is a massive loss - he's an all-Australian ruckman - and hopefully we get him back soon," Moloney said today. "
  12. Scully said at the aftermatch function at the Wharf Hotel that he was a pretty good chance to play in the VFL this weekend. So I assume that'd be the plan if he's right to go..
  13. Gawn has been named emergency the last two weeks now hasnt he? The match committee wouldnt pick him as one of the 25 if they didnt think he was ready surely would they? Or is it just to show him encouragement that he's on the right track?
  14. Was amazed when they said last night Flower topped our goalkicking three times, yet only one our best and fairest once. Thats an amazing stat given he was our only decent player at the time. I remember the thrill of rushing home to see the midweek State Of Origin games against WA knowing he'd be playing amongst, and often outshining, the best in the business...
  15. If the leadership group is reassesed mid-year, do you think Moloney will get back in? He's one of the very few to have flown the flag on a consistent basis this year (although his direct opponent Montagna was BOG on Saturday). If Jamar is on our 'untouchables' list, how many others would be in it right now? Frawley, Scully, Trengove, Watts, Jurrah. Any others? Hamish Hartlett I'd take in a heartbeat from Port, he's easily their most exciting talent. But yeah they have a heck of a lot of list-cloggers (Westhoff = Newton etc) Hawthorn in 2008 is a perfect example of a young team on the up bringing on board a couple of hard bodied 'mongrel' players in Dew and Guerra, to aid and assist their skinny kids, I think it'd be better for list balance to go a similar route.
  16. And here's the 'story': Get Jamar Methinks Roo should stick to his used car sales, and whiney commentary voice he provides for Foxtel. Some of his other alternatives are laughable - Mark Blake? Will Minson? Cam Wood?
  17. I'm a big Bartram believer, but his two or three glaring errors yesterday unfortunately all lead to goals. However as has been alluded to, not having the cattle there to do the normal job of making the clearing kick out of the backline forces his hand by necessity. He had a bad day, but you dont drop him for a rookie. You know that every week you're going to get a good honest performance out of the Bartman. Which is more than can be said for the so called leaders in Davey et al. Bartram and Jones, for all their critics on here, must be two of the first picked every week, as over their entire Melbourne careers theyve both barely missed a game. The match committee/football department obviously see their true worth to the team.
  18. Some players take 20 minutes to adjust to league footy, some take 20 games. For mine over the last 2-3 weeks Watts has finally realised he belongs, and can comfortably play to some of his strengths and have a positive influence on games. Its all finally clicked, and I feel he'll go from strength to strength from here, just give him license to roam, find the footy and bring others into the contest. His awareness is elite, he now knows he can run to a space and the footy will come to him. Very pleasing to see. Will staunch Essendon troglodyte Mark Robinson write a sequel to his embarrasing Watts v Hurley 'scoop' at the end of the year?
  19. The rapture, and end of the world was supposed to happen yesterday. Seems every Sunday night on here is the Rapture waiting to happen.
  20. Strauss is miles off selection for us, his efforts at Casey have been mediocre at best this year. People need to look beyond how high in the draft some of these guys were drafted at, and look at their exposed form instead. Out: Tapscott, Newton In: Gawn, Nicholson I like the idea floated on here earlier of Davey as the sub.
  21. 1) The hiring of the Rules Committee 2) The hiring of Andrew D 3) The hiring of Ross the Boss 4) The hiring of Action Wayne Jackson 5) the hiring of etc etc.. On a serious note the Rules Committee meddling, then daylight for mine.
  22. But how would we know which days Nathan Jones go surfing or walks his dog? Or what meal Colin Sylvia had last night?
  23. Do you think more, or less, people would be smoking Benson & Hedges or Marlboro cigarettes if they were able to have their ads on TV every adbreak, or be reminded at the footy "this quarter of footy bought to you by Winnies Blues, only $12.99 at shops everywhere, buy some today!"
  24. Dont forget the money made from Poker machines at the Bentleigh and Leigh-Oak clubs. I figure you're damned if you do damned if you dont with these type of things. Morals quite often have to be put aside if it aids the survival of your club. Look at Carlscum, they were in financial trouble, so the pokies King Bruce Mathieson went and stripped his machines out of other clubs and put them directly into the Blues pubs. Should set them back onto financial prosperous roads again before long.
  25. Colonial Stadium. A team we havent beaten for 5 years. A highly rated team not playing up to their abilities. Several star players under the microscope. All signs point to a Saints win. I look forward to the game every week, but have the feeling that I'll get that awful sinking feeling midway through the second quarter again this week as I did against North last week.
