Sounds just like the "Six degrees of separation" theory. Regardless I hope we get a flag or 5 in in the Goodwin era.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

You would be wise to maintain that thought right up untill the club announces he has signed -
Eddies goal on the week end, no way any of our players would have even taken that shot.. yeah it was freakish and maybe we dont have that tallent, but the thought to even try create that kind of instinct goal doesnt cross their minds. Have we seen a dribble goal from the boundry since Garletts in NAB 2? Or a brave goal in a tight space on the boundry since BenKen in round 1? Structure is required for the foundations but its those highlights that bring confidence and success.

Tom McDonald (and Oscar) SIGNS.
ArtificialWisdom replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unfortunatly I have the same fear, history just isnt on our side. The only player who demanded more and eventually got it was Cloke, dont realy want that scenario to repeat to us. If Tom says he is leaving then I think it is time to have a tantrum. None of this "ok we will work out a reasonable trade" I would expect us to continually make unreasonable demands. Allir, a first round pick and a nice set of steak knives. Make trading with us an absolute nightmare. I'm happy to be resonable getting players in but scrap that when we are losing players. Unfortunately with Sydney there is no trade imaginable that wont result in us being set back a long way losing Tom. He goes and our 2017 finals hopes take an enormous blow. He goes and we dont get a new key defender? well, then our finals hopes will be crushed before the preseason even starts. Side note: Ik there has been romours in the past that TMac might want Hogan to sign first, but I wouldnt be surprised if it is the other way around. Lose our key back and Hogan's chances of success go way down. (no source, just a thought) -

Rather ineffective "coup" if there is all this publicity before it happens. Arnt coups meant to happen quietly in the background before bang! swift and painfull! -
Interesting i have felt a few of our forwards arn't greedy enough. Many of our players seem to look for a handball or pass before looking for the shot. This is shown by our high goal accuracy but low score efficency per i50. Players only shoot when they have heaps of time and space. Exceptions are Vanders and Bernie who seem shoot whenever they touch the ball in the forward 50. I'd like to see some more rushed snaps and kicks on the run. Yeah they might miss but the chain of handballs to others in the hope of more space is not working especially on repeat entrys. Very rarely do scores from repeat entrys (which we are developing more and more of) come from an open player. There was a number of times against the Eagles I saw chances for shots that were given as handballs that were immediately shut down when what we needed was a quick snap even if we had 6 more quick snaps and kicked 1.5 that would have been enough. A little over 1 extra shot per qtr.. with 70 odd inside 50s it shouldnt have been hard. In the first qtr against the Suns Dawes had the ball 35 out almost straight infront and could have taken 2 steps and kicked on his right but instead gave it to Vandenberg who was forced to kick with his left... thats just not greedy enough! Dawes had the space, take the shot dont risk the chance going by. Too many times we get a mark inside 50 there are players looking to give it off, yeah there are times if a player is miles on his own but not often enough do players look to take the responsibility. Watts looked to give off before settling and missing both the shots from the pocket early in the game but when he got that one in the last he had a quick glance then went back and slotted it. Yeah they arnt going to kick those every time but risking a turnover when you have a guaranteed shot should be a non-option. Just think back to round 3, thank god he hadn't tried that again! Even Kents kick to Tracc in the last I wasn't a fan of.. what if suns players had actually been switched on? Then it would have been a turn over.

Idk what would please me more, seeing Richmond through away their future in desperation to pick up a big name. Or seeing Richmond bouncing around braging about their new recuit in August just to have him go elsewhere again. Either way I think I'll have a good laugh this time next year when they are fighting to stay out of the bottom 4. -
Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
ArtificialWisdom replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Either on the Wing or at Casey -
It was a 50-60m kick and he hit watts on the chest not too bad skill. Unfortunatly there was a man there to spoil it.. all things considered if watts was actually alone then that kick would have completely opened them up with their entire defence out of position thats wh. Still there is being bold and there is being stupid and i think that was drifting more towards the stupid. No way its the worst I'd take that 100 times before bernie's or harmes' turnovers. Even Stretch's was worse because he had blatantly obvious options, at the very least Kent had nothing and tried to create something from nothing.
-
Conserned that it he is drifting from one of the great stories of the year to one of the saddest. I'm not convinced he is part of the future but if they get the opportunity to rookie him I think he deserves 1 more shot. Although, I do have to ask myself if that is just sentimentality rather than a logical decision.

My 3 word player analysis V Gold Coast
ArtificialWisdom replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tyson is a ballwinner and little more but that is his job. I think he will be a vital cog in a finals side. No he wont be the star but we have prospects like Viney, Brayshaw and Tracc that are more likely to be classified as stars. With those guys one day playing at their peak Tyson will rarely be tagged and with time and space he can be pretty damaging. Think Lewis mold, the consistant midfielder that gets a free ride while the stars taking the brunt of the attention. His averge games are 25ish touches and a handfull of clearances and probably enough tackles. If he can produce that consistantly with the ocassional very good game in between that is more than enough. Would like to see 14/15 goals a year rather than the 8 he is on now but regardless you are underselling him I think. With his diabolical errors becoming rarer (while I admit still present) I think its time to start looking at him as a lock for the long term. -
Kent is hit and miss he will hit someone lace out 4 out of 5 times but randomly spray one in the middle, he doesnt settle himself enough when he is running at full pace he kinda just runs and kicks. Im hoping it's just a composure thing that he will get better at over time. He can hit up a player inboard quite well, he has good lateral vision when he is running with the ball

Yeah agreed, I'm sure that stat exsists, its just we have little to no access to any usefull stats that champion data provides the clubs. Only stats we get to see are the super dumbed down ones so that a 5yo can understand them. We need a man on the inside to collect the usefull stats for us! I think if we had full access to those types more complicated stats we might begin to see the areas that players like M. Jones, OMac and Dawes excel which keep them in the team despite many on here kicking and screaming about it.

My 3 word player analysis V Gold Coast
ArtificialWisdom replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the biggest question here is not about Tyson it's which dumbass coach didnt give jack 5?? what else do you have to do to earn 5 votes!? Especially in a game when everyone was pretty [censored].. -
I think the stat we want to see is TO + TO assists. Who starts chains that result in turnovers or who gives it to a player who is out of position or under significant pressure. Maybe TO assists only where the payer who turns it over is under pressure. Not sure, just wish there was someway we could access Champion Data's full database(s) of stats. I could spend hours digging through looking for stuff. DE is a far more usefull stat than you make it out to be. But yes it does have obvious flaws. Game style for 1... St Kilda are an outside running team so of course their DE is higher than Sydney. Wonder what happens if you compare DE while under pressure between sydney and stkilda it's probably not that far appart. Im also a bigger fan of +/- compared to opponent in each game. Comparing sydney DE on a wet day and St Kilda under the roof is unfair. However comparing them to the same game is far more fair.

Billy Stretch Appreciation Thread

If we get regluar 22 players out of 2 our of 3 I would be ecstatic. Billy and Jack look like the ones, if we develop Smith into a player it would be just a bonus. -
6 weeks ago I would have agreed but now I think we need him to stay back he provides increadible drive from deep in defence and his closing speed and pressure saves us a goal or more a game. That "sure thing" in the first qtr where he ran down and tackled could be argued to have made a massive differance in the grand scheme of things. I'd like him to stay back and move Salem onto a wing and use his elite skills going inside 50. But either way both players have huge potential in either role, Hunt is one of the biggest bargain pick ups we have had in a while.
-
If Jones got to him I take that back I just didnt see it. There is a definite lack of support to the player that creates scores. Players like Watts and Hogan always look to the man who delivered the ball for their goal. That sort of support is what we want to see more of. Kent and Tracc do did it as well yesterday, I want to continually see it happen and from everyone.
-
Could not agree more. I would tell Jones to do it. Let viney and tyson lead the charge as a ball winner. jones is too strong for mitchell and plenty fast enough to go with him. That matchup also forces mitchell to be accountable. Bugg could do the job too but he wouldnt force the same accountability. I wonder if Vanders could play that defencive forward role on Hodge? His pressure is what keeps him in the team all year. I would put vince in the middle and tell him to throw his weight around and do everything he can to support viney and tyson while they work on the inside. Those 2 on the inside and have Tracc/Brayshaw/Kent running off the wing or hbf playing as high half forwards. I like them playing the forward role but starting bounces from the back half. For his learning and development id like to see Stretch run with Smith all day but for winning i think M. Jones on him could be better. Maybe even bugg on him could be handy to be a real nuisance but he will get killed for pace every time Smith gets out in space. We're not going to have a better chance to get them, they are still in cruise heading into the finals. Hit them hard and make sure they earn it for every minute. I wont ever expect a win against this kind of team while we are this young, but I want to see a contest. Rolling over easily will be a real disapointment.
-
He continually makes efforts to get to young players around the ground providing support, particularly after they have made mistakes. He ran 50m to get to harmes (a least i think it was harmes) after his shocker of a turnover that turned into a GC goal. This the sort of leadership we need to see with such a young team. Love Jones but i dont see him do this often enough, he just goes about his business and hopes everyone will follow. I'd still be having Jones as captain for the time being though, he is the right face for the club. Jack is the perfect leader from the back where as Jones and soon Viney are leaders from the front.

hahahahaha yeah thats what richmond has been like for years why not take advantage

Thats what I love, he is an outside player, but when its his turn to go hard he goes and not all outside players will do that. He is young and a little inconsistant but he has locked into our 22 and i dont expect to see him come out any time soon. -
If Gawn doesnt get AA ruckman this year I'll be livid, Goldy has been too out of form though injury to beat Gawn surely.. If we can get Rance id be thrilled, we have an army of cusp players like ANB, Newton, Michie, Dawes, Dunn, Garland, Grimes that all fit the bill for Richmond they need compeditors to aid their stars, given we expect them to do a full overhaul of their list take the chance to help with that. We would need to give maybe 2 or 3 of those players and a pick or 2 ANB (a young ball winning prospect), Grimes (seniority), Dunn (hearty battleing defender), 2017 future pick (offer 2nd round but be willing to negotiate to 1st round or another player if they tighten the screws) For Rance and a shuffling of late 2016 picks Huge price to pay for 1 man but time to make a move on a star especially if the opportunity is there Dreams aside I think getting Rance is roughly a snowballs chance in hell.
