I think Christian's comments are an indication that he is open to the wider debate (beyond MFC). He is responding to the notion that overall crowd figures are down. He is giving the broad player perspective that big crowds fire up the players. He wants bigger crowds.

These are the 2022 attendance figures for Victorian clubs at home v Freo MFC 29812 Essendon 23935 Geelong 20136

In our most recent post-Premiership year, 1965, our average MCG attendance was 38,928. This year, 2022, our average MCG attendance is 42,662. We continue to hold up well when the data is considered!

Did we make it to the G on Saturday, Dr? I did, and I, along with the majority of those in MCC area, gave it my all when it came to being noisy. Stop generalising about the crowd.

There are much broader forces influencing current attendance than a bunch of MFC members choosing to stay at home. Covid had, and continues to have, an impact on our behaviours, our mental and physical well-being, our cost of living etc. The times they are a changing'! We have shifted how we consume just about everything, including entertainment! Football has moved rapidly towards a 'streamed' product (as have cinema, theatre and a great deal of goods and services). Is the AFL deeply concerned about crowd numbers? (Less bums on plastic seats and more on the couch in front of TV) I think not... as long as revenue is up, they don't mind! Be thankful that our crowds are top 5 for home games and on a par with a quarter of a century of data!

Just had a laugh with my son (who also attended) about having a crisis meeting when we are top of the ladder! My spin is that we just got beaten by two late (dubious free kicks included!) goals by a potential top four team when we have injuries and out of form troops. We can afford to do some creative thinking. This is what we came up with in our morning after analysis. Jackson plays key forward (BBB to find form with Casey - a bit like last year! M Brown or Weid to the bench) Majak plays from the bench to give Max a rest when needed ( this could be as low as 45% ground time. Majak won't be embarrassed in the ruck contests!) Rivers in for Hunt (been steady/consistent but dropped off in the two losses when we were scrambling for backline cover) May comes in for Tomlinson (or Petty if he is injured). Salem, Harmes & Tomlinson will be better for the run. Hibberd not far away) We have become too predictable! Time to show we have a few new tricks up our sleeve. On yesterday's form, too soon for JVR (yes we also watched the entire Casey game). Turner close to a call-up.

There is inconsistency in the way umpires throw the ball up! For that reason, it is not the perfect replacement for the bounce that commentators suggest. Some umpires throw it higher, some umpires throw it less than vertical... the ball ends up following them as they backtrack. Some umpires throw it as quickly as they can, whilst others wait to settle. All of these variations have an effect on timing and positioning for the competing rucks... not that far removed from what happens with the bounce!

I suggest, if we must go down this road, that players/teams be given a warning before being penalised, as is the case with 666.

It's blatantly obvious that the AFL, itself, has a real problem with respect for the umpires! Otherwise they would have appointed a retired VFL/AFL umpire to the position of 'rules maker', laws of the game committee!

Was at the ground. Haven’t been a Smith fan but he played well with many excellent spoils, good rebound and repeat efforts. He holds his place without doubt!
