  1. Where are the umpires with balls? The Umpires Choir would be a thing to behold!
  2. yeah, nah... that was the best game I have seen Viney play!
  3. Some here speak go Majak as though he isn't capable of playing at the level. He isn't Max, but he isn't a novice! In 2017 for North he averaged 16 hit outs per game. In 2018 he played 18 games and averaged 12 disposals a game. He has played a total of 54 games and kicked 43 goals. Yes, I have selected the stats that are supportive to remind posters that he isn't an untried novelty!
  4. You obviously don't watch much VFL footy
  5. I don't know Majak's current status, but I have watched every VFL game this year and he generally dominates the tap outs, regularly takes pack marks and plays a decent four quarters. He looks very fit to me. I can't see why you would hold him back when he was recruited for this very reason!
  6. Its now so obvious... Goody subs the Captain out and we win!
  7. Rivers was excellent yesterday. He will come in... maybe for Turner (who I thought showed he can succeed at the level today) Dunstan (also unstoppable yesterday) for Sparrow May comes in for M Brown The rest is dependent on injuries (Petty again, Lever, Max) If Max has to rest there is only one viable replacement (if he is fit)
  8. May be the making of Daniel Turner!
  9. Is it possible that I (an MFC member who attends) am being scolded for poor attendance by someone who was not at the game?
  10. Do people think that there is likely to be a sudden surge at the turnstiles on the back of what Christian has said?
  11. I'll listen to the clip when you read and respond to my articles
  12. I think Christian's comments are an indication that he is open to the wider debate (beyond MFC). He is responding to the notion that overall crowd figures are down. He is giving the broad player perspective that big crowds fire up the players. He wants bigger crowds.
  13. Interesting article on this topic, pre-Covid - 2017 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-25/richard-hinds-agony-low-crowd-attendances-footy-codes/8839466 "Indeed, given global trends, perhaps the pertinent question is not why fewer people are attending games. It is why so many still do."
  14. I'm simply pointing out that, by comparison in this downturn of attendances (the reasons for which I have previously hypothesised), MFC is holding up well... Your serve Dr.
  15. So, your saying we're up over 500% since 1901?
  16. These are the 2022 attendance figures for Victorian clubs at home v Freo MFC 29812 Essendon 23935 Geelong 20136
  17. In our most recent post-Premiership year, 1965, our average MCG attendance was 38,928. This year, 2022, our average MCG attendance is 42,662. We continue to hold up well when the data is considered!
  18. Did we make it to the G on Saturday, Dr? I did, and I, along with the majority of those in MCC area, gave it my all when it came to being noisy. Stop generalising about the crowd.
  19. There are much broader forces influencing current attendance than a bunch of MFC members choosing to stay at home. Covid had, and continues to have, an impact on our behaviours, our mental and physical well-being, our cost of living etc. The times they are a changing'! We have shifted how we consume just about everything, including entertainment! Football has moved rapidly towards a 'streamed' product (as have cinema, theatre and a great deal of goods and services). Is the AFL deeply concerned about crowd numbers? (Less bums on plastic seats and more on the couch in front of TV) I think not... as long as revenue is up, they don't mind! Be thankful that our crowds are top 5 for home games and on a par with a quarter of a century of data!
  20. Apologies if these statistics have already been posted in this thread. Melbourne v Sydney, MCG Saturday 4th June 2022, Attendance = 32,753 Melbourne v Sydney, Average Attendance, 2000 - 2021 = 32,337 the 2022 attendance was better than 9 off the 15 games between the clubs at the MCG since 2000 Problem? What problem?
  21. Just had a laugh with my son (who also attended) about having a crisis meeting when we are top of the ladder! My spin is that we just got beaten by two late (dubious free kicks included!) goals by a potential top four team when we have injuries and out of form troops. We can afford to do some creative thinking. This is what we came up with in our morning after analysis. Jackson plays key forward (BBB to find form with Casey - a bit like last year! M Brown or Weid to the bench) Majak plays from the bench to give Max a rest when needed ( this could be as low as 45% ground time. Majak won't be embarrassed in the ruck contests!) Rivers in for Hunt (been steady/consistent but dropped off in the two losses when we were scrambling for backline cover) May comes in for Tomlinson (or Petty if he is injured). Salem, Harmes & Tomlinson will be better for the run. Hibberd not far away) We have become too predictable! Time to show we have a few new tricks up our sleeve. On yesterday's form, too soon for JVR (yes we also watched the entire Casey game). Turner close to a call-up.
  22. Well, some of these comments make it clear who opted for the comfort of the lounge chair last night! Jordon - 4 qtr contributor Pickett - excellent solo efforts Oliver - finds a way
  23. I admire her honesty, athleticism & personal mantra. Well worth watching... gives an insight into the difficulties faced in deflecting dogged prejudice.
  24. Turner played very well today, particularly in the first half. The pro Frankston commentators were pouring praise on him!
  25. Hibberd was on earlier as well, number 45 it seems.
