  1. Pedersen's contributions now seem regularly to be in the ballpark of what Dawes contributed in the 2010 grand final win (mark that as you will, but it wasn't bad!), while the latter seems to have retreated quite a bit from that, at least in his pure football contribution. And re DD's post, Nev Jetta also says hi, as do a fair number of former rookies in that period. But Cam's resurrection after the labelling out of that ducking incident is certainly heartwarming.
  2. Is there anyone out there in Demonland that could turn this thread into some sort of book? Many great stories and much disarming honesty and not a small amount of chuckles here. And thanks for the Polly Farmer / Tarax reminder. Memories re-awakened!
  3. Welcome (a bit belatedly), DP. Your views about, and hopes for, our 'main (coach) man' are well shared here, I reckon. But I'm just trying to work out if you have any 'main (player) men' ideas? (or are you just a Russian oligarch - and, if so, please put some no-strings-attached $$$ into our club, or at least into Demonland)
  4. WOW! (sorry, all, I haven't left the day yet...) Ellipsis I recognised as a word; but aposiopesis? NO WAY! Of course, my Mammoth Macquarie confirms it. Thanks for the ellipsis advice - I had been negligent in this regard. And, now; it may be wise if you and I draw down the curtain on this erudition. Our Demonland colleague natives will be getting restless (= pizzed)
  5. Skuit, I AM IMPRESSED! I used them in my own post (and often do in my 'job') but never knew they had a name. And you are onto something there, definitely. I leave this day a wholer person...* (* These hanging points have a different name?? DK may also have 'spoken' the points, too, here - the 'pregnant pause'?)
  6. ...but I'll continue it anyway! More than just getting it on the record, I think the bidding on academy players was also to keep the clubs intending to take them honest i.e. making them take them at the highest point in the draft. And you could see the bidders smile at the 'farce' of it each time it happened.
  7. Very good get DA - it sure does! The complete relevant excerpt: "...Kent wants to secure his future in Melbourne beyond 2016. “I want to play some good footy and get my name out there (i.e., in context of bolded sentence, in (= at) Melbourne). Obviously, I’d love to stay at the Dees for as long as I can. I’m out of contract so there’s no pressure on me to perform or anything like that, but it’s in the back of my head and you think about your contract"...". Still not sure about that last sentence - possibly a misspoke as supposed earlier. It's not like he isn't performing!! Possibly he meant that if he hasn't given good reason for a new contract already, this year won't add much?
  8. Ready, aim, fire: Childhood Dees supporter Chris "I'm Baaack!" Judd (ref FC tonight). Maybe not Goodwin's chair, but one of the footstools?
  9. Oh to have had only a 20-year lifetime of Dees support! Anyway, like Daisy above, I was taken by his performance in the Docklands-hoodoo-break last year, in terms both of what he did and the confidence he expressed in doing it, particularly in the air. What is the record for nominees from one team in a year (and if it's GWS, what is second best)?
  10. And what sort of house do you live in Malt family? Sympathy. But, on topic, in the "Can we make the 8..." thread I nominated Brisbane at the 'G, Port in Alice Springs, Collingwood QB, Suns at the 'G, Freo in Darwin if they are sufficiently demoralised by then, and Carlton at the 'G as ones we should believe will be wins. I felt St Kilda seemed like an 8-point game: if we won, you could think the return match in Rd 17 at the same venue becomes similarly winable, with possibly the reverse being the case if we lose. Which, since then, we did. But now I think we're less fragile for that return. So add St Kilda Part II as a possible. The remaining 9 games were Suns on The Coast, Dogs, Hawks (twice!!) and Crows at the 'G, Swans at the other 'G, the other Coast in the west, Port in Adelaide and Geelong at Kardinia Park, and thought the other most possibles were Port or maybe one of the Suns, Dogs or Adelaide games. We've now achieved the Suns game so my possibles now represent 4 games: the St Kilda return, Port in Adelaide, the Dogs next week (BIG game) and Adelaide at home. So my fortune-tell was between 11 (more likely) and 15 (less likely) wins leading into a mouthwatering Round 23 at Kardinia Park.
  11. Your pension admission also qualifies you for a position, dp, in the geriatricity ladder I'll be putting together once 20,000 has been passed. And quite a high one at the moment, too!
  12. An SEN chat last week with a recently retired umpire canvassed the need for the skill of centre-bouncing as a problem for getting the required additional umpires. The umpire responded that an umpire who couldn't bounce could be 'covered'. So I guess this could also be applied to the ability to make decisions?
  13. (A quiet announcement that the minor prize, for ticking over the 800th page, goes to the old(ish) devil himself)
  14. And this consideration of moving to four umpires: it is for improvement in what areas, exactly? (I'm not aware of any of the current issues - well canvassed above - having arisen from the officiators being too far away from the matters officiated upon...)
  15. 50 VAFA C grade games then 2 years in a 'second tier' territory league for me (My identity creeps slowly now to revelation to my nearest and dearest!)
  16. The first must still be a possibility (look what the loss of one player did to them last year - mind you, we are vulnerable in almost exactly the same way!) The second may not be as bankable as you'd think, particularly against young, no-fears, no-baggage, confident teams, such as we are becoming? The return Saints game on 17 July and the Weagles at home on 23 July may be a pivotal fortnight.
  17. And back to the Casey guys: Are King and Weideman in any sense competing with each other for a spot? Max has the pinch-hit-ruck capability on his side (and, as a forward, is also a Darcy Daniher clone, as I've surmised on other threads).
  18. Redpath seems the 'muscles' and Stringer the 'athlete'. Is this, then, dealt with by these match-ups? Other way round, possibly?
  19. Time to Cement it? ...a longer contract, that is.
  20. Well done, you old devil! Once we (i.e. you all) pass 20,000, I'll come back and do a 'ladder'. Three qualifiers so far. Keep 'em coming!
  21. It's late on the Sunday of a GREAT and PROMISING win, and a very pleasantly celebrated Mothers Day meal, so indulge me, please. And I promise (having raised it) that I'm not jockeying for the 20,000th! But, if I may, can I take this wide-ranging thread off on yet another tangent for a while? I have oftened wondered, Old Dee, how 'Old' you actually are and, by extension, how old the oldest of us are (in stark contrast, by the way, to our youngest-of-them-all team!) So, I'll start: 61. I stand ready to be beaten, and significantly.
  22. If you can find it, have a look at the highlights reel of the second half of his 2015 season. I only stumbled on it in the week leading up to the draft, but I suspect it contributed to cheers going up in quite a few living rooms on draft night.
  23. Where did you get that emoji, Tut? Loik it! Needs to be the opening for each winning 'Post Match Discussion'. Though, depending on who gets in first, there'll need to be Red (both cheap and quality), Single Malt and Party Drug Of Choice versions. Please research.
  24. ...and it's the Pink Lady game. Reflecting, on Mothers Day eve, that our club carries itself very well in this regard, get on to your social networks to get people there for that reason, as well as for the cracker game it should be.
