Feel like we should be one goal closer on balance, going to need a repeat of the grand final

If they can just play there roles and don’t try be a star I don’t think we loose much, certainly not with dogs smaller fwd line. The question is can they limit them self to doing that

As good as our mid were at times last year it wasn’t our strength, our defence is where we really have a point of difference to everyone else it gives us the luxury of gambling round the ground safe in the knowledge we can defend if it goes wrong. Not saying we wait but he hasn’t arrived yet imo, not at the level where you paying him the big money, we have at least 8 players who need to get there cut before him. The centre clearance goals in the 3rd would have happened with or without Jackson there, he actually didn’t win any of those hit outs and in most didn’t even influencing the contest. compare to Gawn who not just wins most hit outs but does to advantage. Great Jackson was there no one can take that way but dont pretend it wasnt 90% down to Viney trac and Oliver. That is the risk, but equally possible he plateaus for a a few years, until he is getting the majority of the ruck duty we just don’t know.

Get him on a long term deal if he will take unders, otherwise just 2-3 years at a time. Still yet to show he can ruck full time and needs to win more hit outs if that is to be his role long term. I’m fine if he stays as a part time ruck while playing fwd but we need to pay him as such. Huge potential but still has a lot of improvement to make before he is worth the big dollars

Sure just means English had 18months extra development before coming into the league. There age is still relative to each other, Gawn by the same age was a fully capable top tier ruck

Don’t want to nit pick but Gawn won his first aa at 24 the same age as English is now, after showing he was at that level in periods the year prior. English has never show anything approaching aa this year or any other year. It’s a bit of a furphy to say Gawn took a long time to come on when he came on the same age as Trac. Not sure how all this relates to mac a other than even a slow burn ruck will need to show something at a senior level inside the first 3-4 years if they are going to be worth a high pick
