Brayshaw has become important for us. Resting him does hurt our chances of beating Port. If he needs the rest than so be it, but I doubt Viney and Tyson will be 100% so we go backwards resting brayshaw.
-
Dunn and Garland are very underrated here. These 2 have been so reliable down back it seems unusual to not have them both as permanent fixtures in the team next year.

Hardly looks like a first year player out there, looks so composed. Sure he was a mature age recruit but he has really adapted well. Loving the way he goes about his footy, he is hard at it and his second efforts are brilliant.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Adzman replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
According to the demonland contracts thread we have a large number out of contract. You would think delistings would likely come from those out of contract. The Thread lists the following player out of contract :Trengove, Jamar, Garland, McKenzie, Howe, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Toumpas, Pedersen, Hunt, Cross, Bail, Riley, Harmes, King, Vandenberg, White. I think Jamar and cross could hang up their boots at seasons end, meaning we would still be likely to make another 4-5 list changes. VandenBerg will be upgraded, and the other 3 rookies will likely be retained for another year. There are a few on this list playing for their careers. Garland will be offered good money to stay, and you would think with Jamars pending retirement that Gawn and/or Fitzpatrick will get at least another 1-2 year deal until we figure out our ruck situation . Pedo has done enough for an extension, however he could be on the table for trade. The remaining list changes are likely to contain a bulk of the players I haven't mentioned, and the odd trade we don't see coming. Howe will likely be traded, I hope he is used to secure an asset that will help us immediately. -
This would be King's second year on the rookie list. Isn't there a maximum of 3 years a player can remain on the rookie list? If this is the case (can't recall the rule so it might not be) then king really only has another season to show he has got what it takes to advance. Looks promising but there is a heap of time and development to go with him.

With all this chatter about how Cordy is going to get smashed,do we all agree that if Spencer cannot completely dominate Cordy in the ruck that he should be dropped for Max Gawn next week? Glad to see Fitzy get a run. Would like to see him get some time in the ruck also to see once and for all if he is an option for us at AFL level.

Howe should be able to contribute more forward. It is not his ability as an option up forward that concerns me, it is his will.

Seems like the white lines aren't just on the jumpers down at Collingwood. Huge problem down there with the culture.
-
The dees are good enough to win another 4-5 games. Hardly the onfield rabble we have been in the past.
-
A fit Trenners would walk into our best 22. Before his chronic injuries took hold he was one of our most consistent players. Good tackler and a good decision maker by foot.
-
Maybe Dawes could have elective surgery to have hands grafted to his shins, given that is where the ball seems to be delivered to him half the time. Dawes isn't a superstar, and yes we paid overs for him. But he would be serviceable in most other sides as a second or 3rd tall. We have bigger problems than Dawes right now.
-
Freo have the slight edge over Hawthorn at the moment on form, but on paper hawthorn are an embarrassment of riches. If hawthorn are all fit and firing then they have it. I would like to see freo get the flag this season.
-
At this point Dawes is fortunate we do not have a young crop of forwards pushing through at Casey. If this were the case he would be spending plenty of time in the 2's. As supporters we have to face facts, until we draft or trade for some better talls Dawes is going to be a semi permanent fixure in our forwardline whether he plays well or not.

Lumumba reaction to Garland in last quarter
Adzman replied to The Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
Been tough work being a member of the back 6 for the past few years, he probably thought like the rest of us that the days of 100 point smashings were over. I do believe his contract is up at seasons end. At 26 or 27 years of age at seasons end I can see him getting plenty of offers elsewhere. he has a good 5 years of footy left. I do worry players like Garland will leave to go to greener pastures, we simply cannot keep losing key players to other clubs when we are this crapola. -
Before I get started, let me just say I'm not for or against Jimmy T. My thoughts are as follows. We are never going to get 100 cents to the dollar return on using pick 4 on him. That being said, how much we can salvage depends on how much of a run he gets in the senior side. He hasn't set the vfl on fire, nor has he shown glimpses of being a player. However, we really won't know if he is salvageable until he strings some senior performances together. I'm against gifting games to players, but there have been others on our list who have been gifted games due to injury or being in the right place at the right time so perhaps some leniency for Jimmy for a few games might be handy from an assessment perspective. As far as a reality check goes, after this string of games if he has not shown enough the club will need to look at doing the best thing for all parties and cut ties at seasons end. I have no idea if he will make it, but as far as the Morton comparison goes it is irrelevant. I'm interested in talking about players who can help us, not dwelling on things that haven't worked in the past. Morton is yesterday's failure, let's move on.

We need another 4-5 quality mids if we are going to see drastic change. These fringe players from other clubs are handy, but when your list is made up of them you have a problem on your hands. We have far too many players who are handy, but not stars. Must pay top dollar to bring a top mid to the club.

Howe must have an offer on the table for next season because he isn't playing like a player showcasing their talents for a new contract. He needs to find form or pull on a scorps jumper. Jetta has been sorely missed, and Salem getting hurt is a huge blow. There just isn't enough talent burning up the vfl for spots to allow the axe to be swung like it should be.

Post Match Discussion, Pontification and Prayer
Adzman replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
My first child was born yesterday, he will be 4th generation Melbourne Demons. It is in his genes. My father in law is wanting to sign him up to essendon, yet I stood my ground. Then the demons go out and get smashed to pieces. Maybe I break this curse and let him follow who he wants. At least he will see a flag, my father and I haven't! Sick to death of being the joke of the competition. How many first round picks does it take? -
Trading Future Draft Picks is coming to the AFL

It will help make bigger deals happen, and will allow for more complicated trades to take place. I'm for it. -
Have The Hawks become flat track bullies that wilt under pressure?
Adzman replied to PaulRB's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Hawks are showing signs of slowing down, but until we show signs of playing 4 quarters we shouldn't be thinking we can beat anyone.- 122 replies

Salem has made the biggest leap of any player in the first 6 weeks. Becoming important with each passing week and looks likely to be one of our best by seasons end.

Garland was ok down back. He did his job.

GC will find plenty of willing trade partners at the trade table for all mentioned players. The Watts and Howe situations will determine if we are going to be players at the trade table table. If both sign on we don't have much to offer come trade time. I don't think Terlich, Toumpas, Grimes and a number of other fringe players command much currency.
