Is it a coincidence that anyone who plays as the Adelaide’s third tall defender seems to be a gun... Adelaide’s gameplan and back six set up seems to be a great place for 3rd talls to stack up possessions and intercepts: Lever replaced by Doedee replaced by Keith. On Keith; if he wanted to come to us and it wasn’t a first round pick... yes- never turn away quality. But like everyone here I believe that it’s far from a priority.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
My god I hope 'Spaceman' doesn't catch on. BT is pushing it pretty hard.

Young Casey Demon a Kiwi
195 !?!? Saw him play for the fist time yesterday and had no idea he was that tall. That's exceptional speed and agility for such a tall player.

CASEY: Rd 10 vs Collingwood VFL
Lockhart was playing like an AFL player today. He was better than his opponents and he knew it. Was confident and assured throughout.

Entertaining match - most unexpected.

AFL and 18 Clubs apologise to Adam Goodes
Don’t recall Goodes being booed before he was Australian of the Year and made a series of ‘controversial’ comments about Australia’s history. In fact, don’t really remember much negativity about him at all prior to his AOTY. Andrew Bolt, Alan Jones, etc then had him well and truly in their sights and the ‘school of hard knocks’ alumni on social media started drumming up the ‘un-australian’ sentiment online. Seen plenty of players booed for an incident during a match. Seen plenty booed for something they did to a team during a previous match. Seen a player booed for something he did during the week leading in. Never seen another player booed so consistently for something so ill-defined and non-specific as ‘flopping’ or ‘playing for free kicks’.

First Chaplin, now this....
Didn’t have a problem with the Chaplin one as it was, if memory serves correctly, just on Grand Final day and Melbourne had obviously been out of contention for weeks. As this one is a current player during he (men’s) season, it’s not a great look. Worth a word in her ear- certainly nothing more than that.

Round 12 Non MFC Games
It'll need to be Martin to do it as only Brownlow medalists are permitted to punch people on-field.

Bryce Gibbs
There is some big personal issues off-field. No club will go near him.

Sam Weideman Re-signs Until 2021
All is forgiven from last Saturday! Great work dees- great work Sam!

Zak Jones
Would definitely have a role to play in our best 22, but he is far from a star or match winner. Will be interesting to see what his trade value is...

Jason Taylor Resume
8 of your best 22 missing from a match is huge! Our 2 best KPDs, our best intercept marking defender, our small defender (when playing against a team with one of the best small forwards of all time). Melksham was our leading goal kicker before getting injured. Smith could be his depth replacement, but he’s injured. Petty is a depth replacement for Hore- but he’s also injured. Lockhart is a depth replacement of Jetta- but he’s also injured. Was Hannan’s first game back after a very long layoff. AND Saturday was one of the strongest teams we’ve fielded this year.

It exemplifies the point. When you have most of your best 22 missing it goes beyond ‘depth’. No one can cover that number of missing players.

You've answered your own question here. No clubs are able to cover the injuries that we have had this year. Good depth should mean you have some players who can step straight in and play a role. Our injuries have been obscene this year and not just to fringe or depth players, but key members of the 22. Same best 22 that I put above, but with the red players having missed multiple games through injury:

A quickly put together Best 22 with the players picked or traded for a post-first round pick bolded. Pretty handy collection of players taken after round one. JETTA . MAY . HIBBERD . SALEM . LEVER . HORE . FRITSCH . VINEY . BAKER . PETRACCA . MCDONALD . MELKSHAM . HANNAN . WEIDEMAN . HUNT . GAWN . OLIVER HARMES . JONES . BRAYSHAW . AVB . ANB . Emerg. LEWIS, SPARGO, FROST, LOCKHART, PREUSS.

Too Empathetic?
Can’t take any people-management advice from a man who: a) Refers to a player as a ‘poofta’ on air. b) Refuses to alter his version of how a name is pronounced. c) Can’t tell the difference between Sudanese players - even when one isn’t playing. d) Routinely humiliates himself trying to communicate with players in the obscenely self-indulgent ‘Roaming Brian’.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Not sure on the 'AFL traits' argument. He's already played more career games than the majority of AFL draftees. His vision and poise in traffic is first rate when his confidence is up. At the moment, his confidence is rock bottom. He's still a kid.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Wow. Scroll back about two pages and the site was glowing about his potential after a very good first year. The kid has a lot of talent, with great creativity and awareness. What he doesn't have at the moment is confidence; he running on a flat zero in that department. He is a developing player in his second year who is struggling to back it up. Not only is this not unheard of, it's common in league football. Form is temporary, class is permanent; and I'm a believer.

Fans Behaving Badly?
Couple of points from the article: a. Not an AFL decision, so no point criticising them. Richmond Cheersquad decision. b. Still allowed to attend matches, just has to sit somewhere else. c. Was ejected from the Melbourne v Richmond match for homophobic abuse. This is clearly a numpty who has been given a warning by the cheersquad and has beached it. If it was a ‘fan’ being banned by the AFL for only saying ‘green maggot’ then yes, its ‘PC gone mad’, etc. But the cheersqaud members have rules and this person broke them on multiple occasions. Sit somewhere else.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND KYLE DUNKLEY
Father was a gun! Loved that mid-90s swans team; was great to see them come from nothing to just short of a flag. Lockett, Roos, Kelly, Creswell, Luff, Maxfield, Kickett, Dunkley, etc.

Sister plays netball for the Vixens too. Some seriously good genes in that family.
