  1. #closethread "Absolutely not," Scully said when asked whether the thought of getting rich from GWS's entry into the AFL had entered his head. "There's been no approach (from GWS), absolutely not. "I've got absolutely nothing to hide, and I thought I should come out and say something. "I love the club, I love my team-mates and I want to be part of the future going ahead at the Melbourne footy club. "I'd love to end my career a one-club player, and I anticipate that will be the case." Tom Scully on contractual status #keepthreadopen
  2. Below are all the specialist small forwards selected in the All Australian Team for the last 10 years (excluding resting mid-fielders). It would seem that predicting a champion small forward would be the hardest of any specialist position on the ground. Charlie Cameron (Rookie Draft) Michael Walters (53) Luke Breust (Rookie Draft) Robbie Gray (55) Eddie Betts (Pre-Season) Toby Greene (11) Cyril Rioli (12) Hayden Ballantyne (21) Chad Wingard (6) Stephen Milne (Rookie) Mark LeCras (37) Paul Chapman (31) Steve Johnson (24)
  3. Tomlinson is a walk-up start to our best 22. I am happy to go after any available player that makes our team better.
  4. Agree that pace (and power) is essential at the top level, but I've never heard Young being described as 'slow'. I've only really heard this being focused on when he is compared with Lachie Ash, who has blistering pace.
  5. Agree 100% with the last part of your post - always take best player available. Of course the flow-on benefit of this could be Salem making the move to the midfield, or simply a significant improvement in our ball movement when exiting the back half. Both of these would be a huge improvement for us.
  6. Where are all the ‘legends’? Even... really good players???
  7. Damien Barret: “I know that there are 3 MFC stars that are going to request a trade in the coming week, the club will post a massive financial loss, key sponsors are fleeing the club, everyone hates the Viney family and Simon Goodwin is going to be sacked before his new contract even starts... I won’t actually write any of this though, I’ll just post a little cryptic note on my weekly run-down.”
  8. Vague, non-comital sentence from journalist that lacks any detail or specifics, sets off 4 pages of vague, non-commital hysteria lacking any detail or specifics. Barrett heard our presentation went badly. If he had anything else, he'd print it.
  9. Max has got his work cut out for him in that regard: Dean Cox: 05, 06, 07, 08, 11, 12 Aaron Sandialnds: 08, 09, 10, 14
  10. Garry Lyon 93, 94, 95 I believe. Our coach of course was pretty handy, making the team 5 times.
  11. Do they invite every member of the squad to the event, or just the players who make the final 22?
  12. He’s a free agent: https://www.google.com.hk/amp/s/coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/afl/afl-free-agents-2019-updated-list-of-restricted-and-unrestricted-free-agents-revealed/news-story/34a03922d5f74bd43177e70f9b4c027b https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-04/former-free-agents-among-50-names-added-to-2019-list
  13. That man is 70% powder.
  14. This is a very good get from the club who has been very keen on him for a few years now. Of course a lot comes down to what we hand over, but he is a high quality player with many of the attributes we lack. With Cognilio off the market, Langdon becomes one of the better players known to be on the market this off season.
  15. Yep- when’s this story going to break in the 24 hour AFL news cycle that’s starving for news..? Christian Petracca meeting with Geelong and Collingwood worthy of a tweet, article, thread on BigFooty..?
  16. Had a chat with Barry Prendergast about Grimes. Was never in consideration for us to draft him. Not talented enough to make it in the AFL.
  17. This article was written in April, so I think that was referencing an area to improve on for the season ahead. No idea if he has or not. I quite like Knightmare’s espn reports as they often spend a bit of time on the player’s flaws and don’t just claim every 17yo in the next Chris Judd like most draft articles.
  18. He’s a restricted free agent as far as I’m aware... https://www.google.com.hk/amp/s/coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/afl/afl-free-agents-2019-updated-list-of-restricted-and-unrestricted-free-agents-revealed/news-story/34a03922d5f74bd43177e70f9b4c027b
  19. Saints paid a high price to get him over in the first place. That, coupled with the fact that they're rumoured to be into Hill, suggests they might be looking for some top picks. We paid a top five pick for May, so Saints may think there's some currency for a 200cm KPD/KPF. Doubt he would be coming cheap.
  20. It seems a bit of a stretch. Salem re-signs in March, then without any rumour at all, seeks a trade in Day 1 of the off-season. https://www.triplem.com.au/story/christian-salem-signs-two-year-contract-extension-with-melbourne-130712 . Salem said he couldn't see himself not re-signing with Melbourne. “It got done pretty quickly,” he told Melbourne Media. “I probably wasn’t too fussed about it, as I knew it was going to happen eventually – it was just a matter of when. I can't recall a big trade coming without months of rumour leading into it...
  21. Which Facebook group? Just looked at a few (mostly garbage ones) and saw nothing.
  22. Is there smoke though..? Christian Petracca supposedly met, in person, with the Geelong staff and players, in August... and nothing leaked in the media at all..? Not even a twitter post from a shady journo. When Boak met with them (the comparison made in the OP), it was proclaimed left right and center all over the media.
  23. People perhaps getting a little carried away here... the OP is hardly full of detail or citing sources.
  24. There's clearly been some chatter between his management and the club about where they see him playing in the coming years. Looks like he's wanting more midfield time, whilst looks like the club's response is get fitter. https://www.triplem.com.au/story/tom-browne-s-mail-on-christian-petracca-s-meeting-with-melbourne-146322 https://www.3aw.com.au/simon-goodwin-and-the-challenge-for-christian-petracca-this-summer/ Thought Petracca played very well yesterday through the middle. Looks like he, just like the supporters, is a little frustrated that he hasn't come on quite like we thought he would. Certainly a good player, but not yet the star he looked destined to become. Big preseason ahead.
  25. And of course two weeks prior to that Weid misses a kick after the siren to win against Adelaide. The reason we haven’t copped the media heat and scrutiny this season is because, as bad as we’ve played, we haven’t been annihilated week after week.
