WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 'experts' in the media really know very little outside the top 2-3 sides and players in the draft. I was reading an article in the age that had Harrison Petty under medium/small defenders..... he is 197cm tall! -
Have a hard look at yourself Demonlanders

Great post -
Ned Cahill another

Depends where we finish, but given there is expected to be 5-6 academy/father sons in the first 15-10 picks it could be a very good result. Also means we get a player in now rather than waiting 12 months. 28 could still potentially be moved up further if other clubs want to deal for certain reasons.
-
I wonder if that 4th unlocks the possibility of trading 28 down a bit further?
-
Seems to be pick 28 not 23.... Not as great, but I guess it's a free pick for sliding back two spots.
-
Deal done
-
Apparently they can't because we already had pick 22.... some new stupid AFL rule because of the Sydney/West Coast draft tampering last year.
-
I agree. This is all very grey and it would be ridiculous to stop people trading picks back when there is a specific reason for doing so other than draft tampering, which is effectively what the Swans and WC did. Perhaps the AFL should have been on top of these things before they brought in new rules. Fairly incompetent.

I think Jackson is 100% locked in at 3. We won't bid on Green just to spite GWS and risk losing him, it's just not the way we operate and for good reason. Focus on your own side not what others are doing. This guy has the potential to be the best ruck/kpf in the comp and could potentially be similar to a Buddy with his elite speed and athleticism. I'm also still of the belief the deal of 8 for 10 + 22 (potentially we may have to flick a late pick next year back) will 100% go ahead, because it just makes sense or both sides. Freo will know there's a high possibility us or Carlton will bid on Liam Henry at pick 8 or 9, so why not move up to 8 and essentially guarantee yourself 3 players in the top 15 of the draft. Pick 22 doesn't matter to them because even if they don't do the deal and Henry isn't bid on, the outcome is still the same (pick 7, Pick 10 and Henry). My ideal draft would be: 3. Luke Jackson 10. Lachie Ash (assumes Young is gone) 22. Kysaih Pickett (assumes Weightman is gone) -
I think any trading we do will likely be done on draft day. Not too sure on time it starts, I assume there's an agreed time the draft begins.
-
I think it's the fact he was so dominant, both in the U18 carnival and WAFL colts as a guy who has split time playing predominantly more basketball. If he is 100% focused on his footy now then he could really accelerate into a gun forward/ruck. I doubt both Robertson and Kemp would be available if we split our pick. Most likely scenario at this stage would be picks 10 + 22 from Freo. Could be pick 10: Ash/Serong/Kemp/Stephens Pick 22: Pickett/Taylor/Weightman I'd be very happy with a scenario of Pick 3: Jackson, Pick 10: Ash & Pick 22: Pickett Would be a dream draft.

Thisis the beauty of further increasing our depth. The young guy have to work even harder. I feel like our overall depth in 2018 was better than last season (except for the ruck position). We had guys like Pedersen, Tyson & Vince who weren't there this year. I think our depth will be very good next year with a lot of second year players in Sparrow, Nietschke & Jordon. Plus another pre-season into guys like Baker & Spargo. We then add Langdon & Tomlinson plus potentially a DFA like Mitch Brown and our depth is much better.

There’s a lot of possibilities. I guess my point is that if Taylor and Co view Young, Serong, Ash, Flanders etc all at a similar standard then it makes sense to take Jackson at 3 and then take whoever falls to 8. Then there’s the possibility that Gws swap 6 for 10+22 from Freo when there’s a bid on Green, so that will also change things dramatically. It’s going to be a very interesting 1st round -

I think the question is do we think Hayden Young is supremely better than other prospects, considering that Jackson will be gone by 8. If we take Jackson at 3, perhaps we feel one of the players we’ll also want will be there at 8 anyway. Assume the following 1. Rowell - GC 2. Anderson - GC 3. Jackson - Melb 4. Green - matched bid GWS 5. Young - Adel 6. Flanders - Sydney 7. Robertson - Freo 8. Serong/Ash/Kemp it’s also possible that Young slips to number 8 if Adelaide and Sydney like other prospects, whereas there’s zero chance Jackson gets past pick 7. -

He is the same height as Nankervis already and will probably grow a cm or two by 21 you would think. Not saying you're wrong about him being a poor choice, just disagree with this part of the post. -
Poll: Who do you want with our first two picks?
DistrACTION Jackson replied to furious d's topic in Melbourne Demons
My theory is that Freo will do the following: 1. Wait and see what happens up to their pick 7 and assuming there's no bids on Henry to that point they will select their first option (likely Deven Robertson or Luke Jackson). 2. They will then offer us pick 10 and 22 as they are then guaranteed pick 8 and Henry by matching a bid with pick 58. 3. We will then use pick 10 on someone like Brodie Kemp and Pick 22 on Pickett, Weightman or Elijah Taylor. -

I'm very nervous that we are going to take him with pick 3. History says taking talls in the top 10 is a 50/50 proposition at best... going with small/medium type players is a much safer bet. I also think it's better to trade or pick up mature key talls as free agents rather than draft them. I'm really hoping we take Young with pick 3 and then if Jackson is there at 8 then go for it. FYI my brother is mates with Luke Jackson so I'll do my best to get inside gossip.... -
Fair enough.... I doubt I'd do 20 x 400's....

Does Fawkner park have a big hill? I thought it was fairly flat

Yep 100%. Plus the Eagles two less weeks. Would much rather play the top teams early
-
Gee Young's kicking is a thing of beauty. Will be one of the best quarter-back style defenders in the comp

Young and Weightman for me. Young adds a bit of leg speed and elite disposal. Weightman adds leg speed and x-factor.
