If he doesn't get up I think we should play Brown. Like for like. Unless they want to give Jackson another taste, which I'm not opposed to.
-
I've heard that argument and my response is we already have an uneven season, so the concern that weather affects a few games is really a mute point.
-
I'm all for that as well. I guess the idea is by adding an incentive to score, coaches will focus on the attacking side more than defending.
-
I think both him and OMac are starting to build the bodies required to compete consistently at AFL level. Let's not forget they are 24 & 23 years old and this is usually when KPPs start to become more dominant.
-
Let's be honest, Campbell Brown is about as switched on as a Trump supporter. His choices are baffling.
-
Brayshaw is doing his job. I saw him get a few key takeaways from centre bounces and he plays a bit more on the wing than others. We don't need everyone racking up huge possessions, though it seems some Demonlanders would like 22 players with 30 touches each....
-
Don't get hung up on possessions, the only thing they are good for is fantasy football. I like to review a player's supercoach score, as this is often a good indicator of their impact on the game. Hannan scored 93 & Pickett 72 from 8 touches each. To put this in context, Melksham had 14 touches and a goal and only scores 66. What this tells me is that they are both having a much greater impact on the game, even though they have less touches.

I brought this up in another thread. Beggars belief really.
-
If we don't pick both of them this week then I will spew up..... I'd also prefer ANB to Hunt at this point. Incredibly, is probably a better disposer of the ball.
-
100% agree. WTF is this club doing with it's forward coaching? I am so disappointed in the club as a whole, not just Goodwin. Mahoney and the board need to take more responsibility for this mess.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
DistrACTION Jackson replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
After thinking about this since the weekend I really feel the FD should do the following: 1. Bring in Weid as full forward/second ruck for Vandenberg who has been pretty much unsighted in 2 games. Please Goody it's now or never for him. I prefer Weid as I think he is more suited to a pack crashing role than Brown who is more a 2nd/3rd tall. 2. Drop Hunt for Bennell. No brainer 3. Rivers out for Jetta. I love what the future may hold for Rivers but he is stuggling a bit at the moment and we need Jetta's experience back. 4. Drop Smith for Omac. Oscar to stand Ben King and May to stand Sam Day. Allows Lever to be the third tall interceptor. B: Jetta O McDonald Hibberd HB: Lever May Salem ? Langdon Viney Tomlinson HF: Hannan T McDonald Bennell F: Pickett Weideman Melksham R: Gawn Harmes Petracca Int: Brayshaw Lockhart Fritsch Oliver Viney - please play within your capabilities and look for smart options. Oliver - please stop hand-balling to players in a worse position. Petracca - please keep doing what you're doing. -

I don't think a full rebuild is required, just a few tweaks. -

Yeah I agree. Hindsight is always a wonderful thing, but at the end of 2018 we thought we had the best attack, however our defence leaked like a sieve. That campaign wasn't helped by Lever hurting his knee right when he started to hit some form. I understand why the club went and got May after 2018, but unfortunately it has been a fail so far. I think we must make a call on one of Viney, Brayshaw or Oliver. I think we need to inject some more leg speed and skillful ball use into the mix, think a Jared Polec or Brad Hill. I would prefer we keep Brayshaw and Oliver, however I think it's unlikely we get rid of Viney unless he decides to leave. -

Surely one of the most important aspects is to get our forwards running patterns that open up the forward line and make it easier to score. Yes our midfield is currently deplorable with their skill level, but also how often do we have 3 guys or standing together blocking up the area and making it almost impossible to score? -

So from my understanding we have the following assistant coaches: - Ben Matthews (midfield) - how much skills based training is he doing because it isn't working? - Chaplin (defense) - Can't knock the defence at the moment, however I feel Smith should be back up for Lever and we need to play a second key tall to allow Lever to focus on intercept marking, you know that thing we recruited him for?? - Stafford (Ruck and goalkicking) - tbh our goalkicking is improving, however we do not get enough value out of Gawn's hitouts at the moment. So I don't believe we have a forward coach, is this correct? If that is the case then why is anyone suprised we can hardly score? -
100% agree with this. Other Demons mates have been bagging Goody for weeks and I've been trying to back him. He is running out of time though, as we just keep doing the same thing over and over and over. Part of me actually hopes Viney goes with free agency, we need to change up our midfield and I think Harmes is a better player and should be in there full time. Oliver & Salem need to pull their fingers out. Look like a couple of blokes who love their own work. Brayshaw also being wasted as he is the only mid outside of Trac and Harmes who looks half decent.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
DistrACTION Jackson replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd bring in Jetta and Weideman for Rivers & Vandenberg. Melksham is lucky because he at least hit the scoreboard and we really don't have many other options. During the off season I said I wanted Dan Butler and I think we missed a golden opportunity to inject additional leg speed. I really feel our coaches and recruiting team overrate our existing players. Oh and Bennell is a must have, likely for Hunt. -
Wow... but that doesn't support the theories that we paid overs for Lever and he sucks....
-
Don't disagree with you. I agree with reducing interchange caps. Should be 10 -15 max a quarter in my view.
-
I understand your view regarding teams making finals with less wins. But really at the moment our season isn't fair anyway. We have some teams playing top 4 teams twice and some playing bottom 4 teams twice more. The other thing to consider is if the change was made, the best teams would likely be the highest scorers anyway, so they would usually win more games (not always but the majority of the time). I just think it's a great way to force a change without actually changing the in game rules, which just confuses everyone.

I tried to post something yesterday but for some reason it didn't get approved? https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/07/02/afl-analyst-debunks-state-of-the-game-backwards-kicking-myth/ This analyst discusses his thoughts and the data behind potential rule changes. His recommended changes are: 1. Remove the ruck nomination rule and ball up quickly - absolute no brainer and ever since this rule was brought in it was a disaster. 2. Include a bonus point for sides that score 100 points in a game (would reduce to 80 this season in line with 20% less game time) - I really like this idea as it provides an incentive to coaches to have a gameplan that's focused on scoring rather than defending). The AFL rules committee really need to consult with analysts who can review the trends of the game and numbers to come up with logical and well thought up rule changers rather than knee jerk reactions.

Ross Lyon analysis of lack of scoring
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Hogan2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
So does this put the onus on the players or Goodwin? Or both? If we are training players to execute a certain way, then surely if they can't do it regularly they should be dropped? And if Gawn and Viney are two of the main culprits, then they need to have a hard look at themselves and their leadership credentials. -
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/07/02/afl-analyst-debunks-state-of-the-game-backwards-kicking-myth/ Saw this on the SEN website and it's good to see someone use hard facts when discussing the current game. As always with the AFL they've made aknee jerk reaction to on weekend of football, likely off the back of Clarkson's comments who seems to own the AFL. This in itself is an issue as no coach should have any sway over the rules or what the AFL do, but that's a whole other topic. The two key things this analyst advocates are: 1. Remove the ruck nomination rule and ball up quicker - the AFL really stuffed this one up and it's been a terrible rule that's caused increased congestion. Own up to the mistake and change it ASAP lease AFL rules committee! 2. Bonus point for scoring over 100 - I've mentioned this on here before and I think this is a great idea. Give an incentive to score more and the coaches will put together gamestyles based on scoring rather than defending. Given the games are 20% less this season I'd use 80 but then back to 100 when the games are the full minutes. I honestly believe these two small changes would drastically improve the standard of our games and the excitement factor.

Proud to Belong, Proud to Give
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Leoncelli_36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I purchased a jersey because I want to get behind the club. Do I agree with all the decisions at the moment? absolutely not. Do I love the club? Absolutely, otherwise I wouldn't be on a forum posting.... The better our financial position, the better we should be able to perform long term.
