Of course they do. How would they make money otherwise?

I agree with this. If the players gain more control over where they go as free agents, then the clubs should get more control when they are contracted. This is what happens in American sports and it allows for free movement between clubs.

I had Brad Sewell speak at my company and he mentioned that a portion of all AFL players match payments are donated to charity..... I now know where that goes.

Free Kick Against Christian Salem in the last quarter
DistrACTION Jackson replied to solly21's topic in Melbourne Demons
It is bewildering.... -
At the time of the incident I wondered if I had missed an elbow to the head or something like that. Re-watching that confirms that it was one of the worst decisions of the day, and at such a crucial time and part of the ground. Salem has eyes for the ball and the player just takes him out of the contest completely. I really hope the club request a please explain from the AFL and wouldn't be against them coming out in the media to have a go at them. Take a stand against this crap!

I really hope we come out and belt the Roos later in the season. It seems similar to the Hawks last year. We got close in the first game of the season but couldn't quite do it. Fast forward to the next game and we out-played them. This is probably the last of our really bad hoodoo's we have to break. Winning in WA of course is another but there are a number of teams with that issue.

When do the insipid performances stop
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Goffer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Essendon were deplorable against us and also got beaten by Carlton..... I'm not trying to make excuses but people on here really have short memories. A couple of wins and suddenly Essendon 'expect to win'? Give me a break. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
DistrACTION Jackson replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
With free agency & the ease with which out of contract players get to their preferred destination I'm not too worried about this. Unless we have a top 5 pick, which is unlikely, I would be more than happy to trade this for the right price. We've got talented youth all over the ground, we need more ready to go guns to elevate us into the finals. Once we are there we can look to top up certain areas through free agency and trading, building the team around our already strong core of Hogan, Hunt, Oliver, Viney, Tyson, Petracca, Brayshaw, the McDonalds, Frost, Salem, Weideman. That is such a strong bunch of young players that we need the experienced bodies around them now. I'd also like to see us go after a quick, goal kicker to help Garlett (Kent is not doing it for me atm). -
Just embrace it......

Next time we play North I'd love us to bring in a player we don't care if they get rubbed out. Then just get that player to knock Cunnington's head off and Higgins as well.

Free Kick Against Christian Salem in the last quarter
DistrACTION Jackson replied to solly21's topic in Melbourne Demons
The umpires lost control of the game it seemed, which shows it was a poor performance on their behalf. How in a fiercely contested contest you can pay 22 free kicks to 10, or whatever it was, is ridiculous. They missed some very clear ones, none more so than Higgins holding the ball in front of North's goal. Didn't get his foot anywhere near it and the umpire was right there. -
Still think we will beat them Friday night at the G. Hopefully Hogan and Gawn back.
-
I hate this idea for one reason. It does not improve the game at all. The AFL really need to think before making changes, 'does this improve the sport'? If not, then leave it alone.
-
He's the one I want. Is exactly what we lack, a big, strong full back. Lever is no doubt a good player, but he is more suited to the 2nd or 3rd tall, which we already have 3 in Frost, Omac & Tmac. I would love either of them, but my preference would be May due to his age and size.
-
If he does Viney, Jones & Tyson will run riot in the middle with Salem, Lewis & Vince to support. It's great to have a multi-dimensional midfield. It will be interesting to see how Oliver goes with a tag though. I think he has unique abilities and would just get the ball so it wouldn't matter,
-
If Hunt is good to go then I'd only like to see one change, Wagner out and Stretch in. I just feel we are a little top heavy in the back line and that extra runner will help on the large MCG wings. I also feel Wagner is still a little off his game at the moment and could use a week or two at Casey. B: Jetta OMac Hibberd HB: Hunt Frost Lewis C: Vince Jones Tyson HF: Petracca Watts Kent F: Garlett Wedieman Hannan R: Pederson Oliver Viney Int: Bugg Salem TMac Stretch

Angus Brayshaw Concussion Issues
DistrACTION Jackson replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
PF I understand what you're saying. However, I am sure the club has experts who are providing on-going advice relating to this. While it is important that he looks after his health, he wouldn't even be playing right now if they were advised it was too dangerous. I think he will have some time off, but saying that he should give it away without knowing any information other than what you read and hear on DL is a bit extreme. He will come back I'm sure of it. -
Forward set-up, with and without Jesse
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Lampers's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have been thinking about this point, and have concluded that the reason is due to the unpredictable nature of Hogan not playing. Listening to Dangerfield speak on Game Day this morning, he mentioned that it would be hard to plan for Tom McDonald playing in the forward line. This would then lead to your structures being messed up. It seems with the amount of planning that goes into game day, the changes a coach makes can really disturb the other teams plans, we saw this with Hunt last week going forward. This seems to be a big tick in Goodwin's coaching career so far, he is willing to swing changes when required. Now this works well when it is not expected, due to the fact that it is impossible to plan for. However, if we did not have Hogan and continued to play McDonald forward, other sides would watch tapes of him and work out how to beat him, resulting in poor results. Therefore, we are a better side with Hogan in as he is a gun. However, when he isn't in it offers a chance to change things up and catch the opposition off guard. -
Angus Brayshaw Concussion Issues

I'd like to see him put on the LTI and just take some time to get his head right. At the moment we have great midfield depth, but with Lewis and Vince eventually finishing up his importance will be more long term. I think we will still make it, just going through a rough patch. -
We are doing well so far, but seriously why are we playing TMac, OMac, Frost, Hibberd & Wagner??? That's 3 tall defenders and 2 medium/tall defenders. Stretch should be in instead of Wagner to provide extra run in the midfield. Just dumb selections.
-
Yeah but I get what he is saying. They lost Reiwoldt for one game and that's pretty much it. They beat Carlton by 19 points.... not something to write home about. They are being overrated big time by the media.
-
Maybe Sidebottom is someone we should be trying to lure to the Dees. Would complement our midfield.
-
Strange. I know they don't just pick numbers at random. Maybe someone put in a fake number and it was yours.

It's an automated system that calls your number after you've been on the site. If you don't answer it goes back into the system and will re-call you a day or so later.

I used to work there..... interesting. From memory they used to be involved with the Bombers a little when I was there.
