You're killing me Nev.
-
No.
-
I would agree that he isn't VFL standard.
-
We will see who is willing to work hard. The Bullies mids haven't worked hard enough. They are a play behind. I think we can outscore them next quarter - even against the wind.

More long bombs thanks. Newton looks very good today.

Should the AFL lead on Social Issues
KingDingAling replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gil's problem is that he isn't a bogan. Most footy supporters are influenced by the old school - whether it is parents, past heroes, etc. Gil doesn't understand those people. He just doesn't get it, much like his brother when I see him in interviews. There is just something missing altogether. I would argue that a bogan would run the AFL better than GIl, just based on the assumption that he couldn't possibly do any worse. -
Jack Watts signs for three years (21/7/16)
KingDingAling replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've been a massive Jack Watts fan since day dot. I remember getting my whole family all hyped up for his debut against Collingwood. He got creamed, they have laughed at him ever since. It has gotten to the point where they just cannot - and will not - accept that Watts is becoming a quality footballer. I feel as though a lot of opposition fans are in the same boat. But at some stage I think they will all have to admit that Watts is a quality football player. Good signing if true. -
Can only be a good sign, they like running with bulls. We have a few down at MFC (Viney, Oliver and Petracca).

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
KingDingAling replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, my old man lives in WA and he reckons they rave on about Hogan as if he is over the line. -
Watts at CHF - rotating with Hogan (if needed). Or, Gawn at CHF, or FF, rotating with Hogan, or Lobb/Wright/Vardy. If we can manage to get Wright, Lobb or Vardy, we then have options down back and up forward. Gawn is an absolute beast down back, and capable up forward.
-
Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. Look, I won't argue that Taylor is having a good year. But I will argue that he can play football. I believe he would be a good addition to our squad. I just don't believe he is worth the 500k price tag. That is where it sits for me.
-
If we do manage to get Hibberd, it will take some pressure off of Salem. It would could also potentially free up Vince. I have observed lately fans starting to entertain trading Salem. But this isn't like trading Toumpas. Christian Salem has far too many strengths, and not enough weaknesses for us to trade him away for a speculative youngster. Toumpas had some glaring weaknesses till the end. Salem doesn't have many. We haven't seen what Salem is capable of yet. In the juniors he was relentless in his ferocity. Give the kid a bit of time, he is still only 20.

Compliments Wagner and Hunt nicely.

For 500k - no. But, I think Lewis Taylor should be looked at (even approached). He does offer something we are lacking - clean, efficient and effective disposal. Taylor is good by foot - either foot. He is great on both sides of the body. He moves well, isn't dissimilar to Nathan Jones in the way that he evades opposition players. I think the kid has some clear upside, but.. He also has a lot of issues - on field and off (by the sounds of things). On field his weaknesses are that he doesn't chase (either way). He doesn't put on enough defensive pressure, nor does he find enough of the football. I don't see these as big problems. The big problem for me is the 500k asking price. I feel it is unrealistic.

I think Fyfe is looking for the $$$$$. He doesn't strike me as a legacy type. He strikes me as the type of guy who don't mind the $$. Fremantle should be able to accommodate him easy enough. Combine that with the stay at home factor - and I think the decision is an easy one for him. -
I would inquire about Vardy. But I am more interested in Lobb and Wright. Not sure their contract status. But Gawn is absolutely dominant all over the ground - he can go back/forward, and have influence. Our second ruckman should be able to play forward, yet also hold down ruck full time. Vardy can barely get on the park - let alone hold down first ruck.
-
Well I don't think we will get both for free. But we don't exactly have picks to give. They can have our second and third rounder (which I couldn't care less about), but we don't have a lot of give. If we even managed to get one of these blokes on the list it would be a massive get. I follow Essendon because my old man supports them. So unfortunately I have had to watch these guys fairly closely. Quality players. Either of them would automatically be our best back man (excluding Jetta) IMO.
-
This could be partly due to his above average dexterity and co-ordination - which stems from a tennis playing back ground. Apparently Hunt was an elite tennis player. His Mum was also an above average athlete. So here we have an athletic lad, probably with natural co-ordination/athleticism, but as previously been in a sport which honed those skills. I am not surprised he is developing at quite a speed.

I wouldn't upgrade any midfielder who has below 8 tackles. If the mids want to get into the main side they need to be working harder - that involves 1% acts like tackling. High tackling numbers tells me they are working hard, and they are defensively sound. I wouldn't even consider anyone below 8. I don't care if they kick 5 goals and have 50 touches. In the AFL they will still be caught out.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I didn't agree with dropping Oliver the first time. I think it is warranted this time. His form has dropped slightly, I think the VFL is a fair call. I am a big fan of the kid, but I think he can lift on his recent output. -
Should the AFL lead on Social Issues
KingDingAling replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
There isn't much hope for the AFL IMO. They are too compromised. The actual game of Aussie Rules I think is progressing. Played on a different platform, I think it could have international appeal. Very good game, and getting better, but run by a very poor organisation that is getting worse. Hopefully an astute Chinese businessman see what I do and decides to start up his own league. -

I don't know about cheap. McCarthy is still signed to GWS till the end of 2017. If Fremantle don't offer a reasonable deal, then I imagine they will have missed the boat. GWS could shop McCarthy to WC for their first round pick - forcing Fremantle to offer up their first rounder. Or if those deals were not on the table, GWS would be well within their rights to hold McCarthy till the end of 2017. I don't see GWS offloading McCarthy for peanuts, he is a quality player, has a lot of talent, and looks to have a big future. -
We did offload him for too cheap. We could have - and should have - tried to get more. He is having a great year. He was also good value for our club. Sad to see really. I don't like watching him play quality football for another club - especially Collingwood.
-
He looks better because he has had a pre-season. Brad Crouch has been limited. But talent wise, there is no comparison. Brad is a better user of the football. In fact, I think Brad is better in all areas. This is not to downplay Matt Crouch, I think he is an improving player (with a lot to offer), but Brad Crouch is a game changer. We should go all out for him IMO.
-
So you wouldn't blame Hogan if he headed back home? I would. I don't forgive players as easily. Leave and you are the enemy. Even Frawley and Scully - who we largely cashed out for.
