Nah, we are just trying to re-invent him as a back man. We already have an abundance of young mids coming through. I expect they will assume control of our midfield. Meanwhile we can prolong Bernies career by throwing him down back - and alternating him on ball. Smart play really. Bernie has just been down on form, but nothing to worry about. He hasn't been that bad. I expect Vince to play into his mid 30's.

Brayshaw's inside work (contested footy) is good. I see no reason why his short disposal under pressure won't improve. He isn't a panicked player. Just relax Andy. It is all good. Brayshaw was excellent today.

I don't mind the re-signing of Trengove, but the club need to help him find a yard (pace). The injury is the benefit of the doubt. Now the club has a pre-season to quicken him up. Will be disappointing if we cannot add some extra pace to his game. Different player to Luke Hodge - who never had speed, and can kick off of a dime. Trengove takes a little longer to get set (to kick). That is why it is essential IMO that he finds some pace. I still think he can make it, and I don't believe we have seen the best of him yet.

This could be interesting. GC have said they will take the best deal (Melbourne based club), and that O'Meara won't be nominating a desired club of choice. If O'Meara does have his heart set on going some place, and GC do not facilitate that - he could end up in the pre-season draft. That is a possibility. Especially when dealing with Essendon having that first selection. This will be interesting because GC will want a lot more than most clubs will be willing to offer.

Tyson looks absolutely electric in those hightlights, WTF happened to his pace?

Could Jack Watts become our next captain?
KingDingAling replied to MrBurns's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Jack Viney will be our next captain. Is the most logical choice. Sticks out like a beacon. He leads on field through his actions, and demands high standards (both on and off the field), is vocal, isn't critical, and has shown a willingness to listen/learn (as mentioned by Roos several times). In addition, I think the players look up to Viney. Not saying Watts wouldn't also do a reasonable job, but Viney appears relentless in his pursuit for team improvement. -
Howe was a good player for us, and that has continued at Collingwood. Should we have played hard ball? Absolutely. But what is done is done.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 22
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Jetta. 5, Hunt 4. TMac. 3. Oliver 2. OMac. 1. No votes. -
Yeah I agree. I have privately thought that for a while now.
-
Man that loose man up FFS.
-
Jetta and Hunt are exceptional down back.
-
This is just depressing. We can't rely on Hunt to continue to pull us out the sh*t. It isn't fair on the kid.
-
Great response from Dom Tyson (after a poor start). He was influential in the second quarter, part the reason we clawed back into the game.

Will making the 2016 finals hinder our prep for 2017 season?
KingDingAling replied to Traja Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is only one winner in this comp. Putting ourselves in the 8 gives us a chance of being that winner. Anything less is a failed year. 2017 doesn't even exist yet, and there are no guarantees we will be in a position to challenge for the premiership then. We could be now, right now, lets give it everything. -
Brad Scott looked as though he was about to cry (in post match press conference). He acts like he is telling it like it is - but his words suggest otherwise. He is still playing it safe, talking around in circles, and trying to minimize the expectations heaped on the Kangaroos. I feel it is the same mentality that has seen them slide from 1st to nearly out of the 8. Then to top it off he speaks of the Kangaroos being a threat to top sides in the 8. He is all over the shop. To me, I don't think he has the mental toughness to get the job done, same as Hardwick. Same as Leppa. Their teams just compound. Their teams are a reflection of their personality - unable to accept criticism, inconsistent, erratic, unstable, and unable to stand up in the face of pressure.

I think we are more advanced than the Dogs of 14. I expect we will be at least on par with the Dogs next year.

Strengths: clean hands in tight. Knowledge of structures (basic basketball structures are implemented in AFL), temperament (basketballers play in a phone box - players that transition aren't as easily flustered in close). Refusal to turn the football over (in basketball turnovers will kill you, players that transition will hold the footy until an option presents - especially if they played point guard in basketball). Former point guards should have broader vision, and will see things others won't (Petracca, Watts). I think a massive strength is also that basketballers have been training for a shorter format (more repeat sprints, short and sharp cardio), I think basketballers are ready made for AFL. I don't see many weaknesses. One weakness I used to see is that sometimes basketballers didn't commit 100% to a contest - especially contested footballs. But those that did were clean. But the way that AFL has shifted, now players can't commit 100% to a footy (because they can't dive in), it is nearly advantageous now to not fully commit.

First Joel Smith, now Corey Maynard. Fair to say we don't mind the basketballers. *Joel Smith - Australian under 19 squad. *Jack Watts - picked in Australian under 19's squad. *Christian Petracca - Australian under 17 squad. *Corey Maynard - Australian under 23 squad. Probably more. I think Trengove and Tyson could play also.
-
Think they will regret not having Angus Brayshaw in that list. By 2020 he will be a star. Could possibly have a brownlow to his name by then.
-
I don't think it will be tight. Brayshaw is going to be an absolute star. I think he'll be a definite A grader. I see Tyson as more of a solid B grader.

Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mills would be the safe bet. I am a punter though, and I love the X factor types. Give me J.Hunt thanks. -
We are in a position to take the risk. We are blessed with great youth. If we taken Morabito as a rookie and it didn't work out, we wouldn't lose much.
-
Option 4 seems fairly reasonable.

Jesse Hogan and his kicking for goal (merged thread)
KingDingAling replied to Ricky P's topic in Melbourne Demons
Shocking approach to goal. Under 11's type run up. Pretty bad.
