From all reports Swan is very football focussed and the excesses of his youth have been curbed by maturity. As a player he is an A grade gun. His games against Port and St Kilda were outstanding. The reason the players jog is that if the 50 metres takes them inside 50 then they should use the time to properly settle, line up and shoot for goal. If they are going to be outside 50 then they need to be careful that their little dash is not perceived as breaking the line and playing on. And dont you think that players jogging down the ground allow other players to make position up the ground. Its no good running like hell to find there are few options forward. Your second one % is the ultimate gamble. Do I take advantage of the umps whistle or do I risk 50 metres for not getting the ball back to the free recipient? The upside is OK but the downside just kills you and the sides momentum. You need to be sure/certain that the free is yours. And it does not matter if you kick it or not, the issue of a 50 metre penalty is if you delay getting the ball back to the recepient directly on the free being given. Its a fine line Collingwood could be playing. But in the wrong hands like Essendon, not being discipline around free kicks just punishes you. Has anyone noted that the Pies are still seeking to take the man on the mark oout of the play by having a player a couple of metres goalside of the freekick point. So when Pies player A with the free breaks the line and plays on when the man on the mark crosses that line then Pies player B takes him out or provides a block. Harry O'Brien at it again!

Far too early to call on any of this. As Demon32 pointed out the Lions have been cruelled by injuries and struggled to get their best team on the park. Voss decision to let B'shaw go at 31 was a fair assessment that Brisbane needed more up forward if they were to challenge again in the Brown era. And Bradshaw has not played since round 9 with an ageing hamstring. Fevola has kicked 47 goals this year in a side which has been often chopped to pieces in the midfield. A full side and Brown and Fevola fit was enough to cause problems for another team. How many times have you seen Voss coach or what involvement have you had at close quarters with him. Many of the experts believe he was ready to coach. And he deserves more than 15 games before being given the sword. Over 2 to 3 years the decisions to trade may come home to bite him. FWIW, Buchanan, Raines and Clarke would not have been on my shopping list. Staker has impressed me on the upside. He has been worth the 3rd rd pick.

The players he sought at Richmond were the same players he sought at Footscray. Undersized, running and outside players with little regard for tall KPPs especially at the Club. He and Miller were thick as theives and Miller was instrumental in getting Wallace to Richmond. His record as a coach speaks for itself. He was a poor one. He left one club in appalling circumstances and was rightly overlooked by Sydney who chose Roos. He then stuffed it and proved he was not a coaches boot lace. Its says much of the stupidity of the Richmond hierachy that gave Wallace a 5 year contract given the circumstances at WB. Wallace isn't stupid and has been and does look out for himself at every opportunity. I just think there are better commentator and analysts out there. And Tezza provides no basis to be assessed highly in any category other than on what he has done in the AFL.

Terry Wallace. Voss took over a list that had its key elements for a flag Black, Brown and Power in their final years of football. Its a list that has a number of question marks like TJ, Brennan etc. Their list was not perfect by any means. And barring Brown Black and Power was potentially looking at a rebuild for the next generation of stars. Voss has gambled that these ready to play footballers would complement the side in making a run for the flag with Brown. Its a big gamble. Especially recruiting Fevola to try and squeeze the last opportunities and leverage the best out of Fevola and Co. It has not worked with Brown injured, Black too, Fev gone missing and the weaknesses of the side exposed. If they dont get it sorted within 12 months, Voss will be in Knights position.

Great idea remove a major backman from his role where he is strongest to one where he is an unknown to allow players who cant crack a regular game under their own ability to be gifted a game. Wallace is regarded as FAIL throughout the football industry who bled one side's list and walked out on them and then set about over 5 years to destroy the Richmond's list with some of the dumbest recruiting and drafting decisions you could imagine. Wallace completely misread where the game was going and Richmond are still working through the debacle. His W/L record would show that he is indeed unable to effectively exploit weaknesses in oppositions. Its easy to sit back and ping other side's lists in the press. Its no wonder that he has tried to share the seat with Sheehan. He cant get a serious gig in the AFL in any club in any serious football role. He is finished in the AFL and has burnt so many relationship with his self serving actions it no wonder Sheehan used him. He would have been damn cheap too. Wow. Its hard to put an opposing view to Wallace. Wallace really didnt say anything of consequence. What's new. Jamar could at least take one or two pack marks. He cant mark above his shoulders, is poor body on body and despite a nice kicking style is nothing to write home about on the conversion. Why? Dont you think the football department have a fair handle on what Maric can and cant do? And why the rush for season's end? Maric is contracted in 2011. It would be nice if Maric earned his spot from doing the things at Casey that he is required to do in the AFL.

Cricket has been overshadowed by other sporting events. Pakistan would have to one of the greatest jokes as a sporting organisations that in the last 12 months: - Throws a Test match and investigates the keeper for some unseemingly butter fingers but the keeper maintains his spot. - Openly criticises an incumbent test captain (Yousuf) during a Test match and series. - Appoints a replacement captain for the one day series who gets suspended for blatant and dumb ball tampering - Appoints Afridi to the captaincy despite the ball tampering and the fact that he has not plated Tests for 4 years. - In his two innings that is critical to the team and getting runs, Afridi bats like a beach cricketer being called for last over. Amazing. Then resigns immediately giving reasons of stress and lack of mental preparation. - Every batsman par Salmon Butt bats like a reckless millionaire. Oh I just remembered Zimbabwe are worse and so are FIFA! Good win by Australia in difficult conditions early. Bob Massie would have taken all 20 wickets on the first 2 days.

The AFL have sent clear message for obvious reportable acts like Baker and Cotchin. Any perceptions of inconsistencies over a range of past events should not detract from the need to make clear statements. I would have thought this has been done in both cases. Heaven help a player who is guilty of similar crude misdeameanour in the future. Late hits on players are often not about the intent to maim but reflects the recklessness of a split second decision where Cotchin faces the consequences.

Cotchin was clearly in hot water when he collected the North player. And the Baker decision clearly spells out what is and what isnt expected. And Cotchin's effort was later than Waite's.

You have to be kidding... Collingwood one of the richest clubs in the AFL with biggest supporter base and best facilities operating on the smell of an oily rag . Malthouse would want to win this year. He has had 11 years with the everything at his feet and has not a flag at Pieland. Was you first thought any better?

If Green tears a team apart like Le Cras has done then I would agree with you. But FFS, Le Cras's effort was freakish and a wonderful achievement. They have both had good years. But Le Cras efforts puts him in front of Green if they are both going for the same AA FP role. This may not be the case. But I would be surprised of any player dislodges Le Cras from his AA guernsey. A shoo in IMO for the FP role. Green may be in the mix for other AA roles but is not as much a certainty as Le Cras.

Good point Crackers. Some of the conclusion jumping without the facts is prominent on this thread. It would be good to understand the coaches intention for playing the extra player behind the centre at the start rather than posters trot the regular assumptions, cliches and half truisms. However nobody likes the slow starts but lets deal with the actual causes. Our slow starts have been a problem this year but this is the first time we have played the extra man behind centre. It would be good to know the coaches thoughts on it.

Kruezer is down with a knee injury. Warnock is proving a dud with Carlton and Hampson is so so. Jacobs was sharing the load with Kruezer pre injury so he wont be available. And pick 30??? Surely you jest. If he was traded Carlton would want a first rounder. And the way MFC play with Jamar....Jacobs would only get a 15 minute run per game. I am not sure he can play forward. So its big bikkies to pay for a player that gets splinters and is an injury contingency for two years. Prefer other means and options to deal with rucks after Jamar.
