  1. There are two elements we need a minimum of 42 points preferably 46 (4 more wins) AND Sydney and Carlton to falter. A narrow opportunity at best. After experiencing 1987, I will continue to dream B)
  2. Getting into a flap over meaningless articles on a third rate sniping media site like Crikey is really making a pyrrhic stand off the lowest possible base.
  3. I seriously doubt, barring unforeseen injuries that we will have McDonald, Beamer, Chunk and McKenzie on the ground at the one time. If anything, the four will rotate two spots playing a specific role. They will have quicker players around them.
  4. The issue is that MFC needs to grow at a faster rate than the other major clubs grow otherwise we will remain a minnow. Forget about the Norths of this world. Their decision not to relocate to the Gold Coast is looking worse by the day. Given our attachment and arrangements at the MCG, I have yet to see a plausible plan for why we would want to develop Casey as a "boutique" stadium when its a far out location, limited attendance capacity and a sub standard VFL playing surface. Surely there are more relevant and attractive options for MFC to explore. We have just emerged from one black hole so why do we want to stare down the abyss of another.
  5. Its amazing people get so heated about a bit of fluff from Crikey that makes the Hun look legitimate. BTW, Dean Irving was actually on the Footy Flashbacks tape on 7 before the Melbourne vs Sydney game.
  6. No it doesn't. I dont think Rivers is better than Warnock. How simple do I need to make it for you? Ugh. I did not say that at all.(Misquoting again) Garland is a far better defender than Rivers. And playing in the reserves has nothing to do with ability at all otherwise Trengove and Tapscott are not up to AFL. Brilliant. Just makes your early question about no one being a stand out bar Frawley looks even sillier. Nice try.
  7. I'll thought I had made it simple. And understanding what you have quoted has been proven not to one your strong points Stevie. I said its line ball and I dont Rivers is a lock in. And Rivers has demonstrated that he is not a great disposer of the ball on a number of occasion. The FD is entitled to its opinion and judgement as am I. Brave enough to put your own side up or can you just take misguided post shots as usual? And for the record, both Garland and Bartram have at various times been outstanding in the backline as well as Frawley. But maybe you just me missed that. Ho hum.
  8. Apparently Warnock is tearing it up at Casey and I dont think Rivers is a lock in in the backline and has not been a standout to date.. At any rate its line ball atm.
  9. FB: Bartram, Warnock, Garland HB: Bruce, Frawley, Grimes C: Trengove, McKenzie, Davey HF: Green, Watts, Sylvia FF: Jurrah, Petterd, Wonnaeamirri Fol: Jamar, Moloney, Scully Int: Bennell, James McDonald ©, Morton, Jones Emer: Bate, Bail, PJ (only as insurance for Jamar)
  10. He is also apparently one of the fittest players on the list. If he is fit to play, I can see no reason why you would not play him especially at this time of the year. What an education for a young player playing for honours at the business end of the season.
  11. But half of your pecking order is not playing for Tapscott's potential role. And the selection of one or more of Cheney, Warnock and Bate may not have any bearing on Tapscott's opportunities. The pecking order is a bit of a misnomer excluding Beamer and Trengove. Maybe for Tapscott but Fitzpatrick you're dreaming.
  12. Warnock, Cheney and Bate arent competing with Tapscott for a role. And their chances of selection may have no bearing on who gets selected. And the pecking order for Maric could completely change within one week of Casey footballer. Trengove looks a monty for this week. Beamer has missed 2 to 3 weeks and may come back through Casey for fitness.
  13. Agree. Cooney oozed talent from day 1. Was the stand out No 1 pick in his draft year 2003 and has proven so ever since. More so than Trengove, Scully Frawley and Watts... WOW. Its a pity that together with some really good games this year, he has played some absolute clunkers. 5 weeks ago he was burning credits with some disappointing performances. Glad he turned it around. His efforts against Brisbane were very good indeed.
  14. Daniel Kerr??? I dont think so.
  15. MFC should say no to both of them. GC should say no to Kerr but chase Cox. If Cos were to move, he would be worth at least a 1st round pick. And which clubs have first round pick to give? And Cox at 29 is too old??? FFS. What garbage. He should be in his prime. Cox has played every game this year in a very ordinary Eagles outfit.
  16. Why wouldn't Green be eligible? http://www.afl.com.au/about/tabid/13532/default.aspx#veteran Veteran Players Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list any number of what are called Veteran Player’s. In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club. From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification.
  17. Agree. I cringe Davis got the nod in front of him. Davis is a big game ghost and a down hill skier. As in past years, Davis did go missing once September arrived in 2009.
  18. MFC will battle to get one player in the AA at year end. If we do it will be out of Frawley, Green, Jamar. Frawley is up against Taylor (Geelong), O'Brien (Collingwood) and may struggle. Gilbert and Fisher are in the mix but have not had as good years as past and St Kilda's decline this year can be partly put down to the fact that oppositions have done their homework on the two players. Jamar might be up for a bench role but he will face pressure from Jolly, Mumford Green might get the nod if he gets over 50 goals this year.
  19. As Leigh Matthews has said last year, a coach without the good cattle aint a good coach. Wellman is in charge of the fruits of our recruitment in the 2005 to 2007 with Frawley, Grimes and Garland. Absolute beauts. It would be good if Josh Mahoney had the access and time with similar gold up forward. Wellman or any assistant coach may or may not be doing a good job but its impossible to make a valid assessment of it unless you are close to the operations of the football department.
  20. Good idea for team balance...drop the captain...ugh. Jurrah should be in the gun this week. Lazy and uncommitted. SO much for picking your best side to win. A more sugary source you will never find. Dropping Bail for Maric is a case of drop a player the pure sake of doing it.
  21. Agree maurie and well put. At present he is our best small defender and some of his contested efforts have been first class. Up to last year that may have had merit but this year Bartram has been a definite improver in all facets. His kicking has improved greatly (while his legacy from his early years) means that every rare miskick becomes misplaced "I told you so". His decision making has also been good this year with few blemishes. He is not the most skilful footballer but at present he is our best small defender and he stays and plays.
  22. So the side that comes 5th gets a bye if the side that comes 8th (more losses than wins.)Logical.
  23. Even harder to fathom why you would completely misconstrue the difference between finishing 8 and 9 as a mistimed and misconceived tilt.
