  1. You were focussed on intimidation. I explained how intimidation is done in todays football. You overrate the push and shove and I dont see the value of Miller doing it. In AFL he does not have physical presence. Its alot easier in the VFL when you are playing kids shorter and lighter than you are. You mince words about opposition players thinking twice and physical presence. Any even muted attempt on a player going for a ball will be penalised. You overrate the marginal aspects while missing the major requirements. Miller falls down with those at AFL level. I didn't call for any behind the play incidents either. I used Steven Baker as an example of a player who was front and centre on what he was doing. And the AFL have absolutely set a firm message about physical play on an opponent. The bottom line is you intimidate by winning the contested ball and the uncompromising way you do it.
  2. Selection is about making the right decisions for the best outcome for the whole team given its current disposition and the opponent their playing. Its not just about he kicked X goals therefore he gets selected. Its the same the other way too. Miller is no certainty to be selected. Given we have Junior, potentially Beamer, Rivers, Davey, Bruce and Green out there, the leadership issue washes as much as it did in the prior week.
  3. A terrible case of overvaluing the tuff stuff. Honestly I thought even the Stephen Baker decision would have sent some shock waves in even the darkest corners of the football public. Clearly not. The way you intimidate sides is the frequency and manner that you win the contested ball. Each and every player needs to do it. Football might be a man's game but its not a thugs game. If the team is performance based how do you justify picking a kp forward when all kpf positions are covered and dropping a ruckman to support Jamar. Makes no sense.
  4. Fair point. I went with some Richmond friends who were rightly frustrated that they went inside 50 so often and so poorly with so little result. They burnt alot of energy in the first 3 quarters without showing it on the scoreboard and tired in the end.
  5. Ugh. In his first years with the Demons, he was hesistant to commit to a contest and repeatedly dropped his head first in line when marking. He was put into a tagging role to firstly make him accountable and secondly by tagging a good player he would learn to commit to contest. He has learnt that and only in the past four weeks has he played like a forward should. The only one that was ending Dunn's career was him. And if he had not lifted in the past 5 weeks he would have been a dime a dozen tagger. His ability to actually hurt the opposition when he has the ball with good decision making and execution has been great. It wasn't there even 3 months ago. But of course that was someelse fault other than the player. Well he is close. He's only missing two of the most critical core skills for a forward. And presenting well and having no fear Bollocks. Unless you are a KPB then you are likely to play all over the ground, with substantial running and interchange. Given where football has been heading for 5 years or so, the old let him settle in one position is naive and antiquated. It does not happen. And for the record, both Goodes and Pavlich played in a number of roles in their early years as well. Didnt hurt them at all.Unless Morton learns a proper defensive side to his game he will struggle like Dunn did. He is being taught that so he can achieve the potential you have bestowed on him. If he doesn't he will struggle to achieve those heights.
  6. Been asleep for a while? Henderson is 21/22. Its a promise of things to come as he develops. But he's a spud.
  7. Lucky it doesn't take two to tango. Sometimes you could read the signs at the football and just avoid all encounters with toxic elements. If it bothers you that much call the number flashed around the ground to report trouble makers. I cant believe a fight broke out and its seemingly one side's fault.
  8. When they kicked in, MFC were prepared to concede the first kick in to the pocket. I have no problem with that provided you bottle them up. However we did seem to give them an easy opportunity on the 2nd kick to or just outside 50. i thought we did well blocking the corridor and stopped them running through. I would have liked a little more pressure on their chip passing around the flanks. Richmond did not look convincing with it. But we did not like that convincing either. They got the odd kick in out to a spare man on the flank a couple of times which was annoying. On our kicks, I thought the Tigers prepared and zoned well for 3 quarters. However I thought we did pretty well as the game wore on as Richmond did start to concede opportunities around outside the 50 metre arc. The game was not much of a spectacle as both team flooded each others forward lines hard.
  9. They arent wet behind the ears!! They will put the performance in the same context as MFC will. If Miller goes to the GC next year, I cant see them paying much for the pleasure. And your analogy with Brock is just wrong. Carlton would appear to have done a bad deal. There is nothing to suggest that GC will shoot itself as well over Miller.
  10. I seriously doubt that. Our biggest game for years and we are going to drop a player who will be one of the cornerstones of our next 10 years.
  11. How dare they make Morton play accountably? And we just haven't filled the gaps left by CJ and S Buckley!! And a footballer not getting a game is unhappy...get out of here. Your persistent and malevolent sledges on the coaching staff are veering further into the ridiculous. You should also consider who you mix with. Your inside information would be best kept that way. B)
  12. [ Agree. They wont. Hmmm. Rivers did his job against a no name. He did give away two goals for crude tackle on Cousins and an unnecessary push on Graham. He wont be dropped but he does not want to slip up in the vital floating third up tall role. Agree And he wants to drop Watts as well with 5 goal assists!! Where is that fellow from Star Trek?
  13. Richmond played Mitch Morton off the wing yesterday and I thought he was very good for them.
  14. Dunn's career has turned around because of the way he plays his football. Not due to where he plays. Dunn was played as a tagger to teach him to be accountable and to make the contest. It actually made him as a footballer and taught him a couple of basics he was too timid to comply with in his early years. But his tagging which nearly destroyed his career has set him up as a defensive forward?? The only person who was destroying Dunn's career was Lyndon Dunn. He played his best game yesterday and his commitment to the contest and his decision making was full of the resolve that had been missing before. Great, he only needs to learn to take make marks and kicks goals to be a nightmare forward!!! Wow. Any chance a player should play a role to the team's benefit rather than camp in a role for the player? And which role is that for Morton??? This year Morton has been poor defensively. And like Dunn of early years needs to learn what is required at AFL level. Its not a negotiable matter. He's close to selection and his time will come. But he aint a superstar and needs to sho some of the basic to match the hyperbole.
  15. OK you dont like Bailey. But gee you do post some absolute tripe to advertise the fact.
  16. 6. Frawley 5. Dunn 4. Davey 3. Scully 2. MacDonald 1. Jurrah
  17. Or a major flaw in the player??? Hmmm
  18. Probably neither. I am really sure that no coaching staff member in their right mind would contemplate that. Correct. BTW, I thought Maric was just so so in the VFL today. No recall on that match. Liam Jurrah should be nervous after his ordinary performance last week. If Miller was emergency this week and then kicks 10 in the VFL, Jurrah should have all incentive he needs to perform.
  19. Incorrect. He actually had not made playing finals one of his goals this year rather stating he did not want to play finals. What do you mean stack the team given we are playing so many young inexperienced players and in recent weeks have had leaders in Junior and Beamer? Any chance we might be teaching those selected in games to win football matches? Think about it. So often your achilles. B)
  20. We're 10th and we are commanding 4 positions in a top 50 list. Dream on. Frawley...yes , and possibly Green and Jamar. Sylvia too inconsistent at this point.
  21. Tapscott showed some really good signs and given his limited preparation will surely be played for the Demons in 2011. Blease impressed in that last quarter. With so little match fitness this year he is one to watch next year. Warnock was class up back but then again they had few marking targets. But his efforts in the first half were critical in blocking a few GC attacks. The half time difference could have been worse. Much worse Hard to gauge other efforts against such a mundane opposition after half time. Gold Coast lacked experienced hard KPB forward and back. They have all the traits of a young team. But geez Swallow and Smith looked good. At the level, Newton looks accomplished. I thought Maric, Bell and Strauss just went without setting the house on fire. Fitz was overwhelmed in the ruck. Miller kicked 10. Great effort. Had a salad day. But had little opposition and in truth should have kicked more after missing easy shots and did drop some sitters. Good early then cashed in on some really slack and undeermanned defence. I agree with Hannibal that it probably illustrates the AFL/VFL gulf then suggest he will cut it in AFL. If we kick a good score against the Tigers does he come into the side?
  22. Never let the facts get in the way...... Albert Chadwick and Ivor Warne Smith should not be forgotten either as great players and administrators for the club. Norm Smith and RDB are definitely up there.
