Just saw Blease had 26 touches, 2 goals and 6 tackles on the weekend. Lock him in for a senior birth I reckon.

I expect Tapscott will get another game but I would go with Blease for Tapscott and JKH for Terlich. I would think Michie needs another strong game and then will come in.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jones had a job in the first quarter when the game was there to be won. His opponent had 14 possessions and was easily the most influential player on the ground. That alone should exclude him from the votes. We don't need to agree but you can respect my opinion. I am not trashing his worth to the club or as a player but in my eyes his game yesterday was a major step backwards into the player I hoped he had become. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am judging him on this game alone not his others. He did not stick to his role in the first when the game was there for a captain to show the way. He on at least 4 occasions called for the ball when he was clearly not in the best position and it caused us to turn the ball over. He instead of giving off first option which he has been doing ran himself into trouble on at least three occasions that I can recall. I am not saying he has not had a good year but in a game where the coach stated we needed our mature players to show the way he was clearly found wanting. -
The 2014 AFL National Draft
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Petracca looks to tick all the boxes except for whether he has the tank to run hard both ways. He was clean and ferocious in the contest and showed good vision. He kept his feet well, looked explosive away from the pack with a good side step to go with it and can obviously kick a goal forward. Brayshaw looks a safe meat and potatoes mid and I found him a tad underwhelming. Ahern, Laverde and Blakeley showed a more exciting set of attributes for mine. -

Correct. Dawes key role is to be the second tall not the primary. He is great at clearing the space for the main man. The issue is there is no main man at present. -
Aidan Riley - I like what I see
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
The good thing about Riley today the late brain fade aside was he was tough and clean in close and also appeared to have some speed out of congestion and hit targets. There is definitely a true mid to work with there. -
Daniel Cross - contract extension
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we could have picked any block of 4 games you wouldn't want Cross to miss it was the Dogs, Dockers, Cats, Power stretch. That along with Tyson appearing to tire second half of year has seriously affected our form. -
The 2014 AFL National Draft
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jack I think this is more about is there clear top end talent that will be elite this year? I expect McCartin will go number 1 and even he did not look a sure thing. If in an even top 20 we think we can balance getting players we rate highly later and bring in players from other clubs and trade down then we should look at this. I hope that Petracca, McCartin and others have cracking ends to the year and others drive up their standing similar to McRae and Bontempelli in previous years because if nothing else it will drive up what clubs are willing to give to attain them. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He is not above criticism. He is a very good player on his day who gives his all but he was assigned a role yesterday and proved how big a gap there is between him and the elite. There is such a thing as trying too hard and trying to do too much and he showed that in spades yesterday. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Had a job on Selwood in the first quarter but was too interested chasing his own ball. Ran himself into trouble that many times today I lost count. It was a selfish display. -
Its our inside midfield !! Get it?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Todays game actually showed the exact opposite to the point of your thread. We actually held our own in contested possession but were outclassed. It was outside on the spread and effectiveness when we had it that cost us. We lack class and run. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Viney 5. Riley 4. Grimes 3. Garland 2. McDonald 1. Howe I can not possibly understand anyone who saw that game giving Nathan Jones a vote. He played a very selfish individual game. And don't get me started on Frawley. -

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 17
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good changes. Looks much better balance than last week. Salem and Barry need to go back and work on consistency and Riley and Tapscott both deserving of their chance. -
Tom McDonald and Dom Barry re-sign
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great news on T-Mac. Re: Barry, welcome to a world where kids are given time to develop as long as they are showing the right attributes. The kid can run and will now know he has time to develop his frame and game accordingly. -
Tom Boyd- Unhappy at GWS?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
This thread fits with information I have from someone who worked very closely with Boyd at the Eastern Ranges. Aside from being the third possibly fourth option behind Tomlinson they have stacked 6 kilos on him and now wonder why he can't get to contests like he did as a junior. In saying this we need to focus on mids and anything we would want to offer would be trumped by clubs that have an absolute need for his type in StKilda and Brisbane. -
Post Match Discussion - Round 16
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Many players make mistakes. Grimes seems to make more errors that directly cost or cause a goal. It is also the fact that other players are given more rope because they are younger (see Tyson, Viney) or less experienced (see Terlich). -

I don't know if this is an indictment on our list or the calibre of the kid but he already is. -
In: Tapscott, Jetta, JKH Out: Gawn, Terlich, Barry

Post Match Discussion - Round 16
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Our effort was there aside from 10 minute lapses in the second and third quarters. We just need class mids that can run all game. We again played too tall forward. Nowhere near as bad as the panic stations that will occur in this thread. We just need to continue to turn over the list and find players that will make the most of the ball when we have it. -
Our effort is there but we are setting up to limit the loss not win the game and the players are playing accordingly. Jack Grimes has done some good things but his lack of body strength for someone who has been in the system for so long should be enough to have Misson sacked. If we seriously want to try and win sub Gawn now as we have gone in too tall once again.
-
That only leaves them with Sandilands and Fyfe and Mundy and Barlow and …….. We make poor decisions without the best pressure team in football to play against. I hope we bring a strong effort but my gut tells me this could be ugly.

2014 National Under 18 Championships
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Keen to know what Petracca's endurance is like. Does he have the potential to be able to run hard both ways. Seemed to have a burst from the contest but struggle to get to the next contest. Keen to watch him again today but must admit have found this talent pool all a bit beige so far. From yesterdays game I did like the look of Blakely, Garlett and Howe.
