Early on I know but I would say Simon Black is the closest comparison. -
The Round 7 AFL Rising Star nominee
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I disagree. Langdon I thought was the best player on the ground. JKH was good but there were 3-4 better in our win. Langdon has also been more deserving with his overall form thus far this year. -
The Jack Viney bump that never was!

Its a sad day for football if he goes for that. I would like an explanation as to what a player is meant to do in that situation. The only options other than what he did would be not make the ball your objective or dont protect yourself whilst trying to make ball your objective. -
Changes for next week...

Re-watching the game Byrnes was better than given credit and dropping is not deserved so until someone bangs the door down he stays. Assuming Frawley is fine I would swap Garland for Georgiou and that is it. -
My 3 word player analysis V The Crows

I am amazed by the continual hope for Blease to get a game over player x. I think that horse is close to bolted and would take a mammoth turn around in the boy that I dont think he has in him. -

If chip is out I expect it will be Garland in and Dunn forward. -
Frawley was clearly not right yesterday, moment I think in the third when trying to jump at a ball he leap with both feet up at same time which to me says foot problem. His application since going forward and assistance with our structures has been important.

Byrnes did his bit but look forward to seeing Kent back in the side. -
Being it was Friday night Pies v Blues and he got the medal for BOG I would say its pretty much still a done deal.

Great team win. The first half really showed where we are heading. The last quarter players stood up and showed the steel to hang on. Watts and Howe both showed real application today. JKH, Tyson, Viney and Salem's early cameo really showed the future. However a match of many highlights the best one of all for me was Jetta absolutely towelling Betts. I really hope he gets a good injury free run at that small defender role. -

6. Viney 5. Dawes 4. Tyson 3. JKH 2. Vince 1. Jetta -
Best quarter of football we have played in years. We will be up and down but whenever you have doubt as to where we are heading go back and watch that quarter. Salem just has "IT".

Why? Was great when on but by all reports was blowing hard after a qtr and a bit.

First time in a long time that I can recall that I would be happy with any of those emergencies in the firsts. -
Changes for Round 7 vs Adelaide
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
I expect Riley will be rewarded for working his butt off to get back from his leg with a game against Adelaide. Based on Roos comments Watts wont be out. In Riley Out Byrnes -
How you fathom that Garland and Pederson's roles are the same is beyond me.

Changes for Round 7 vs Adelaide
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Really hope Riley has a blinder today and comes in against his previous side. Kent wont come straight back in if he's not playing at Casey this week. Terlich has a few clangers a game but his overall game is not as bad as people state. We need to bring some polish into the side and hope that one of Toumpas, Strauss or Clisby can play a balanced game today to push for selection. In: Riley, Garland, Toumpas Out: Watts, Jetta, Byrnes NB: Howe as sub would send the right message. -

Our improvement in being competitive is there to see it is now our offensive inability that is stopping us winning games. We held our own at the stoppages against a great inside side tonight. We ran hard defensively to limit the damage. Aside from Pederson and Matt Jones not many realise you need to run hard the other way as well when you have the ball. I expect that will come over the next 4 weeks as we weed out those that lack the required effort. I expect the lesson may start with both Watts and Howe dropped and Byrnes not too far behind. -

Changes for Round 6 vs Sydney

Again people pre-conceived ideas on players are quite amusing. Perception that Strauss is not an elite kick and is caught in headlights at AFL level yet pretty sure he lead our kicking efficiency last year even on the small amount of games played. 95% de on the weekend is insane last week any way you cut it at any level. His issue has been his inability to play body on body in defence previously. His kicking is elite. I would take either of Strauss or Clisby over Terlich or Jetta at present. In fact I would play both and rotate Strauss through the flanks and wing rotations.
