Changes for Round 6 vs Sydney

The reviews are well balanced. Just because the review states what they should work on does not mean they're not showing more than some in the firsts. -
Changes for Round 6 vs Sydney
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
He should be shown his actions or lack thereof from the weekend and made to understand what is acceptable. His other games have not been an issue compared to this week. He should be given opportunity to rectify as his assets afford him that. -
Changes for Round 6 vs Sydney
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its pretty funny really. Half the site is demanding our most skilled player be dropped because he has no heart. The other half are calling for the heads of the guys that are all heart but make errors. We struggled to contain GC's midfield because like West Coast they have the one thing we don't have which is speed of ball movement. This makes me less concerned against Sydney. I doubt Garlo has enough match fitness yet to play. In Kent, Salem, Strauss Out Evans, McKenzie, Terlich NB: Watts to be put on notice. -
Watts does not understand the non negotiables of football. Prime example when he wandered across half forward between three players in the third quarter when Dawes worked his butt off from 40m behind him to then run 20m passed him to put on pressure. He has beautiful skills but its not even close enough to make up for his defensive deficiencies. On the positive today an acceptance that Jones is an A grade player and Viney is two preseasons from joining him. We didn't run hard enough with them in the first half into space. We came back into the game once Jones was freed off Ablett and once they tired and we could go with them in the second half.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 5
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Jones 5. Viney 4. Dawes 3. Grimes 2. Frawley 1. Cross -
Are you saying that McKenzie is quicker than Jones?

I expect Bernie and Dom to get off the chain this week as Gold Coast rarely tag one let alone two. Don't underestimate Ben Matthews input into our strategy today due to his time at GC. Very curious to see if Jones goes to Ablett. We harrass and tackle like we did last week we should win well. We don't show up satisfied with last week (very much the expected MFC response) they will run us ragged. Historically Melbourne would lose this game. A win would convince that things have seriously changed.

Changes for Gold Coast Round 5
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is Garland playing back up ruck? Until we have a solution for this Pederson plays. He has clearly won his position and played his role the last two weeks and should continue to be rewarded for it. -
McDonald went back to attacking the ball the last two weeks rather than reacting to what his man is doing. A much improved effort.

Changes for Gold Coast Round 5

GC's second ruck yesterday was Sam Day or Rory Thompson. I would do the same as yesterday Pederson goes in when they do. Spencer to crash into Nicholls all day. More important next week to have the extra runner than the extra height. -
Changes for Gold Coast Round 5

People wanted Jamar dropped for most of last year. Spencer plays his best game for the club. I doubt we'll play 2 rucks so where is the logic? Garland is one of our best 5 but has not played a game including pre-season. Its not like Dawes where you can anchor him deep. I am more talking about the random requests to bring in Blease, Toumpas etc..... -
Changes for Gold Coast Round 5

Kicked a cracking goal, had 2 more direct goal score involvements, 1 great run down tackle, 3 fantastic spoils that he had no right to get to. Played the type of game you would hope a kid playing his first full game might play yet people want to drop him. We made no change when we lost to StKilda yet people are expecting 3-4 changes when we win for blokes that are not proven to perform at senior level. I expect Clisby in for Terlich due to his hammy and Evans to play sub again. I doubt you will see another change. -
Well done Dee's. Our effort was not that much different than round 1 and 3 (first three quarters) which will be lost on most. We just had targets to kick to forward of the ball, played a team who didn't hurt us on the turn over and had Spencer playing against a ruck of equal stature. Great to see our leaders lead and Jack Viney back to his manic best.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Frawley 5. N Jones 4. Bail 3. T-Mac 2. Viney 1. Spencer -
My rule has always been Jam donuts only allowed on the way home if we win. Lets just say I haven't had to worry about watching my weight in recent years. Dawes, Dunn and Frawley forward will straighten us up particularly if the rain stays away. It may actually give us a feel as to whether not having something to kick to has been the issue. I just hope we are the aggressor for once.
-
Very much agree with this Scoop. The standard MFC response would be that Carlton come out hard and jump us and we then "didn't see that coming, weren't switched on etc.." I would love to see them surprise me for once and be the aggressor.

GOODBYE MITCH CLARK
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very sad. Another that showed so much promise and gave so much excitement however brief now gone. You cant fault his efforts on the field however short or his application to try and get back. The mind is a bizarre thing even to the most physically tuned. All the best Mitch. -

In fairness to Pederson he was one of few to win his position today. -
SMALL MERCIES - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Too many players who refuse to attack the contest. Too many players who can't make the basic skills and decisions of the game. Too many players ok with losing and collecting a pay cheque. That loss was pathetic. -

If one of they key reasons playing on Mitch's mind is he feels he is letting his team mates down it will be quite contradictory if he walked away from them and the game.

The trading of players and picks this year to me show the tide has turned in the quality of our list management. It is close to impossible to judge us fairly first two rounds without one quality forward but its fair to say we went back into old habits last week. West Coast who have more size and probably more speed than any other side were possibly the worst side for us to play as it plays straight to our weaknesses. The changes made this week show me that the culture of players getting games based on who you are not what you do has gone. This to me is another positive. I am comfortable we are better than last year. I struggle to judge how much without a forward to kick to. The players brought in this week bring spark and run to what was a one paced side last week. Still no forward line but keen to see how we bounce back this week.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND TWO
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
M Jones is not slow just fumbly which slows him down. -
IF Trengove had not been captain and a top draft pick there would be no debate about whether he should be at Casey. He is too slow for a flanker/outside mid in both movement and mind. They either need to play him in the middle or put him to Casey. I would go with the latter at present.
