In: Whelan, Jamar

Out: Johnson.P [inj], Garland

Robbo...count yourself very very very lucky and show us something!

Whelan is a good inclusion particularly against Nth with Shaggers and Beama on the forward line. Was apparently in sparkling form for Sandy last weekend also.

As for Jamar lets hope he takes a couple of strong marks in the goal square because its unlikely he will do much more.

MELBOURNE

B: Matthew Whelan, Nathan Carroll, Jared Rivers

HB: Paul Wheatley, Brad Miller, Daniel Bell

C: Brad Green, Brock McLean, Clint Bartram

HF: Cameron Bruce, Russell Robertson, Colin Sylvia

F: Aaron Davey, David Neitz, Austin Wonaeamirri

Foll: Jeff White, James McDonald, Nathan Jones

I/C: Mark Jamar, Chris Johnson, Lynden Dunn, Cale Morton

EMG: Brent Moloney, Colin Garland, James Frawley

In: Whelan, Jamar

Out: Paul Johnson (hand), Colin Garland (omitted)

Ecstatic to see Whelan back. Has been a long time fav of mine and I'm looking forward to seeing him prove the doubters wrong. There is plenty left in him. It is such a relief to see the names RIVERS and WHELAN in the backline together. Would have liked to see moloney in for CJ but other than that, pretty happy.

I'm very confident this week. Can't wait!

mmm...

great to see Wheels back and Garland out (needs time back at Sandy to build some confidence)...cj is lucky to stay in the side as well...

Id say Robbo has one more week to show something or he is out...

never thought id say this but i'll miss PJ being in the side...he has been great this year!

Yep, as good a side on paper all year,

Cmon demons, you got me screaming, got me standing on the edge of my seat.. Anyone remeber that Classic.

I beleive we can win this weekend...

Cj may be lucky, but I'm ok with Bails giving him an extended run to see if he's got anything to offer. I'd love him to step and show something.

Very strange that there is no Moloney still!

He must come in for CJ!

Great to see wheels back. I hope Jamar can show us something to prove he was worth resigning.

I hope Brad Miller named at CHB is just a joke.

I agree.

Robbo on last chance

Me too Mousey, I saw Miller named there and headed straight to the smallest room equipped with a fresh roll of the 3-ply

DB thought CJ did alright last week

Roos

Ins - Ross, Smith, Lower

Outs - Hale (inj), Harding, Swallow

Hale out cancels PJ somewhat. Who will be their second ruck?

I cant understand why Moloney is still Emerg. you would think if fit he should be in our starting line up , even off the bench.

Possible match ups

Wheatley on Jones

Carrol on Thompson

Bell on Edwards

Rivers floating or on Petrie if Forward or Jones if Wheatley doesn't work

Jmac, Bruce or Bartram on Harvey

Miller at CHF

No Bate again is disappointing. Surely Moloney, if fit, is worth persisting with for a few weeks?

Damn shame to see the names Miller, Jamar, C.Johnson and Robertson

However, I think we win this week. Cale Morton will do somethions special. Possibly a Hird/Lyon type display

Good one. The way you jinx us I'll expect him to smash his face on someone's knee and wreck his back, in a Hird/Lyon type display.

No change to the forward line duo where IMO we lost the game last week.

How long do we wait for real change?

Make the call Bailey. Make the call.

do you recall one of Chris Johnson's first games, against W.C in Perth where we lost a top of the ladder match by a small margin. He was sensational that day--the boy can definitely play, and I also would like to see him get a few games before we write him off

Definitely - Bater would have been a great inclusion in place of CJ, who is crap.

Apparently it all happens Round 7 Franky

Stuffed if I know what it is....

Bate hasn't played for four weeks, I think he'll come back through Sandy. If Moloney was dropped for disciplinary issues (and Bailey said he was omitted, not injured) then you would think he'd have to honour a commitment to Sandy before a recall.

WB Whelan..

not so much Jamar <_<

He was definitely injured, he had a bad corky that kept re-bleeding but he told me he was probably right to smash the roos this week

I don't doubt that he had a corky, but I can't see the point in Bailey lying about why he wasn't in the team. The big question is if he wasn't injured would he have played rd 2? If the answer is no he was dropped for disciplinary reasons then he needs to front up with Sandy this weekend.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
