Ox - I was just trying to point out the double standards - as we know chocolate contains caffeine (a drug) - and one that I enjoy especially while the major stores are peddling it so aggresively atm.

The fact that alcohol is legal yet is known to kill many people every year is what I was trying to highlight. How many people die from cannabis overdoses?

Dr Alex Wodak (one of the world's leading authorities on AOD issues) made a very impressive submission to Bronwyn Bishop's 'Winnable War on Drugs' inquiry last year about how cannabis should come under a similar tax regime as alcohol and tobacco and the revenue could be taken out of the pockets of the drug dealers and go towards helping people experiencing problems with cannabis (btw a small percentage of those that use the stuff). A compelling argument I thought. Bishop labelled him 'a drug industry elite' who was undermining her governments zero tolerance approach.

Prohibition does not work, we have evidence from the failed alcohol prohibition that is very clear. We need to look at alternative approaches.

Another example is the new crisis we face with the strong 'afghan brown' heroin that is now on the market in the bigger cities (not yet here in Tassie though). Howard claimed his tough on drugs approach had led to a fall in use of this drug. In reality they just switched to what was more readily available on the market - ice, speed and cocaine. Now the market has changed again and we are witnessing a new wave of heroin related deaths. Will we ever learn?

I still think Fev has brought the game into disrepute and should be investigated and suspended by the AFL as a serial offender. We need to take a zero toelrance approach to pi**heads.

if it was neitz it would have been a fine, and a public apology. it was 5th year player sylvia who hasnt lived up to his potential and is increasingly showing he doesnt want to grow up.

unfortunately in fevs case he is immature and one of their best players. he could have used a suspension, but is too valuable to carlton.

i think we are getting in to a bigger issue here than whether fev is a ding bat, because we both agree he has done the wrong thing. i think we both also agree that alcohol can cause big issues, and often it can cause bigger issues than illegal drugs.

RE legalisation of other drugs, im not sure i agree, because it is likely that this will simply result in a pile of other drug related diseases and symptoms, which we will then have to attempt to prevent. there is a reason why these clandestinely produced chemicals are not available on the free market, and that is because the true effects of these drugs is not known. we understand the short term effects, but have no idea of what they are actually doing. alcohol is a rather simple chemical which occurs naturally in our diet and has been exploited for commercial reasons. mdma and thc for example are not part of everyday foods. they dont have any health benefits associated with them. im not sure government control of these substances would make them any safer.

If it was Neita, he wouldn't have a long list of previous incidents. Everyone deserves a second chance, but Sylvia has had more than enough chances, as has Fevola.

Funny how Fev was suspended last year for a smaller incident, when the Blues weren't all that keen on winning. Double standards?

There has been a shift in agenda. The focus for 2008, at least at this point, is seemingly to actually win matches.
