The Sandringham Football Club has resumed training and things are going along very smoothly with numbers and enthusiasm excellent. The boys are training very hard and have come back fit after the Christmas break.

There are no major recruiting announcements yet although some promising local talent has joined the group. The club will be buoyed by the emergence of several players new to the MFC list including some exciting young rookies. Sandringham also groomed a number of new faces last year and with a year's experience under their belt a strong list is expected to emerge after last year's disappointing finish to the season. All of the senior players from 2007 are back on board including Ezra Poyas who was considering a future up north at one stage. Perhaps the rotten weather being experienced by those on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts persuaded him that he's much better off staying with the mighty Zebs!

The Zebras lost Stef Martin and Shane Valenti in the drafts to to Melbournefc but both will probably be wearing the Sandringham jumper at some stages throughout the year, particularly Valenti who can only play AFL if promoted off the rookie list.

David Gallagher will be recuperating from a knee injury sustained towards the end of 2007 and Danny Hughes is also back after a stint at Melbourne and is recovering from multiple surgeries. Their progress will be watched over the coming months and hopefully they will be back on the field as soon as their recovery permits.

Among the impressive array of young talent coming to the club are exciting young recruits Chris Waller from Beaumaris who was training at Richmond prior to the drafts and Brad Gilder one of the youngsters down from the club's TAC Cup feeder club, the Sandringham Dragons.

New coach Andy Lovell will be assisted by two other former Demons in Paul Hopgood and John Ahern and Paul Howroyd will remain reserves coach for the 2008 season.

Overall, the team is looking good and hopes are high for a very successful year but like the Demons they are trying to keep a lid on it for the time being.

that brad gilder goes alright! played against him in under 16s playing for bushies. very strong player and a hard nut

You know DD that not 1 club spoke to Brad at all.

A bit hard to beleive considering he was Sandys U/18 B&F and dominated all the way through juniors.

anyway. A bit of info on a potential Sandy player, He hit 240 odd in about 30 overs the other week.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either.     HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
