If you use all the letters in all their names, you still cant spell CHRIS JUDD.

It's a risk, definately. Even more so when you think about how much of a talisman they've already made him - suddenly there are Blues talking about finals and top fours and how Whitnall is going to be inspired to keep fit (they may have jumped the gun there, no?) and Fevola will take responsibility for, stuff.

When Judd isn't playing, it'll hurt them badly, particularly if they get belted a couple of times the first time he misses. Worse than that would be getting beaten routinely even with Judd.

We could all be toasting marshmallows on the flaming ruins of Princes Park if Carlton land bottom four again after everthing they've promised for 2008. And they wouldn't have any salary cap room to hold together the over-hyped and thus over-paid 'guns'.

judd is such a talisman he's inspired whitnall to stay fit even though he's not at the blues! judd must be a true inspiration

Of all the clubs in the comp you would think the Boos should know better then anybody that putting all your eggs in one basket can destroy you.

Kouta anyone?

It sent them to the wall last time and may do so again. I love watching Chri$ "money grabbing scumbag" Judd play but a part of me would be quietly smiling if he only got up for 30 games over the next 5 seasons. Maybe Judd should watch My Name is Earl he might feel a little shaky. Karmas a [censored], and it will always get those who are selfish.

Caroline Wilson has written an excellent article in today's Sunday Age (Carlton looks like the old, dark navy Blues) about the return of the arrogant Carlton of old even though they still haven't won anything on the field for a long time.

The only thing she doesn't cover is the belief that many people now have that the whole Judd thing was a set up from the start and that he was always going to Carlton well before he announced he was leaving WCE - Tanks for nothing Carlton.

"Nisbett was furious when Swann revealed on Thursday that Judd's manager Paul Connors had alerted the Blues midseason that his client was ready to come home, when the Eagles had been told no contract talks would be held until the end of the season."

If what we are reading into this is correct then Judd's interviews with the other clubs were a complete sham and he was making monkeys out of a lot of people in the process. Carlton and Judd might be arrogant and smug about themselves at the moment but people in the industry have long memories. He's gone from being one of the most admired footballers in the land to a money grubbing creep of the highe$t order.

According to Caro -

"Incidentally, Judd in turn appears on the verge of a deal with Pratt's Visy Board to become an environmental spokesman in another handy new partnership."

Does remuneration earned from being employed by the nation's biggest corporate cheat come under a club's total player payments and will the Fonze investigate this if he doesn't look into a certain club tanking its games for 11 rounds in order to get a free run at this player?

Spot on mate.

How much money is Judd going to be paid under the table?

What creditabilty does Pratt have?

Imagine the stress they will have when the other players demand higher contracts

Not just limited to players...

Terry Wallace.

Currently 3 years down on a five year deal. Terminating the contract and having to pay out another two years could potentially be whats keeping him at Punt Rd.

Denis Pagan?

How many years did he sign on when he joined Carlton?

Posted

If a player signs a deal such as judd has, five years - 6 mil and has a career ending injury. Do they have to pay out the rest of the contract?

i will add alistair lynch to that list. he got a 10 year contract worth 150K per year back in the 90s. huge gamble for brisbane to make. but he turned out to be a gun and he couldnt renegotiate ever.

"Incidentally, Judd in turn appears on the verge of a deal with Pratt's Visy Board to become an environmental spokesman in another handy new partnership."

very good point. yes he is entitled to earn money privately but if this isnt investigated by the afl its a joke. the club president is hiring a player to work part time for his company and is most likely paying him over the odds of what he is worth. if that isnt cheating the salary cap i dont know what is. if he was working for an independent company i could understand, but its not an independent company.

obviously it depends on the words in the contract. given the position judd was in he would have baulked at such a contract. however, if we were to pick witnall up in the psd you would demand that written into the contract (ie if you are injured and cannot play you will not be payed).

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
