Saints interested in Chris Johnson

Whether the Saints, who also have an interest in Melbourne's Chris Johnson, are prepared to go as far as offering their first-round selection (pick nine) to Geelong for Blake was unclear last night but they were conceding that they will need to trade given the interest from Richmond, among others, in the follower.

The Cats indicated yesterday that they are prepared to discuss Charlie Gardiner, Henry Playfair and Kane Tenace and have all but agreed to release Tim Callan to the Western Bulldogs for a late-round pick, but Geelong would not budge on Prismall despite interest from Essendon and Melbourne.

no comment YM?

like every player you trade them for the right price... we won't get much for CJ, and I feel he is a player which Bailey will get a lot more out of, so i hope we don't trade him... will wait and see though...

The Saints to be honest are probably interested i n anything from Bill the butchers second cousin who " can kick a bottler" to Maisy the Gorrilla who they can pick up with any of their Daft picks !!

i wouldnt read too much into that.. ... the Saints make us look like geniuses in draft week !!

CJ's been taken to China along with other youngsters in Dunn, Bate, Newton and Frawley as part of a leadership development. I can't see him going anywhere, and like everyone else hold high hopes for him becoming the player we want him to be.

Agreed. You don't undertake the cost of sending a young bloke like him to China to give him away for what would be an ordinary offer from the Saints anyway. He has far more upside than many of us think and I have a feeling that, under a new coach, this kid will go places (other than to China) with his football.

No way should we give CJ up to the Saints or anyone else!!

He has so much to give and I believe DB will unleash the Demon in him and we will see what he really has to offer.

I'm a big CJ fan.

I think his trade value will be minimal, and the value he represents at Melbourne is higher. With Bailey's guidance he can become a very good player, given that he already has a decent skills- set.

Of course if St.Kilda want to trade Kosi for CJ.... ;)

I am a big CJ fan, but he has not done anything to prove me right. I would love to see him take his opportunities, cos he's a ripper bloke and I think could become a class half back flanker or wingman. But he needs to focus on his footy.

Don't we go through this every year with CJ.

He had an opportunity to progress this year, but spent half of it in the magoos.

Not AFL standard.

I reckon (as always) they have confused Chris Johnson with Paul Johnson.

Considering they were referring to the Saints interest in Ruckmen (Blake)

I'm surprised Jones and Bell aren't there.

CJ was widely tipped as most improved preseason but barely raised a eyebrow.

Maybe he needs to find some old tapes of his old man.

Johnson is too soft.

I'd trade him in a heartbeat.

Chris Johnson isn't a smart footballer.

That's his biggest weakness.

I disagree. He shirks far too many contests.

Is it possible to make a soft player less soft?

Green.

He is now one of the first players to go dive on the football.

A few years ago, he wouldn't go near it.

I agree.

Is it possible to make a soft player less soft? Paul Wheatley had the "soft" tag for a long time too, but it doesn't seem as prominant now.

It's a mental issue all they need is a good shake from the coach and then some good confidence

That's got a lot more to do with your observation than any change in his approach to the ball.

Maybe.

Green was never a ball-hungry player IMO. He wasn't going hard at the contest when he first started, but was a more opportunistic player (as most medium forwards are).

This is not a character flaw, it's just part of a learning curve.

When he was pushed into the midfield he had to learn to put his body in the contest. I'm sure he'd admit that he needed to learn to do that, it wasn't an in-built thing like it might be for Brock or was for Godfrey.

I think that CJ's biggest problem is lack of confidence. He doesn't believe that he belongs, which combined with being dropped every second week, makes for a very unsure player.

I propose this trade.

Chris Johnson and fourth round draft pick for St Kilda's second round draft pick.

That way we'll get about pick 28?? which will satisfy Adelaide's requirements in the Meeson trade.

Currently Adelaide want our second round pick (too high says Melb) while we are only prepared to offer 3rd round pick (too low says Adel)

Why on earth do we have to do a trade to secure a player that does NOT want to play for the crows.

Since when did beggars become choosers!

The crows set the precedent with Thompson ... its called "Reaping what you Sow" or "Do un to others what they do to You"

Reporter to Saints: "What type of player are you after?"

Saints: "Someone who can kick goals, like a Steve Johnson"

Reporter jots in notebook ... "Saints interested in Chris Johnson".

I agree.

i think folk just feel they don't need to say it anymore, but wheatley is soft as butter which is not a great quality in a backman. if he had any value at all i'd trade him in a heartbeat.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.
