Brown - going with glory

Carroll - year's worst game

Bizzell - fumbled and humbled

Ward - loose and disinterested

Johnstone - huge possession accumulator

McDonald - strangely ineffective game

Bate - very minor involvement

Pickett - classy but limited

Dunn - classy but spasmodic

Miller - effective in bursts

Bode - showed some glimpses

Bruce - playing out time

Green - classy when required

Robertson - heart and soul

Ferguson - brave but limited

C. Johnson - little to commend

P. Johnson - certainly no defender

Jamar - mistake- ridden performance

White - should have dominated

Newton - highs and lows

Jones - not at best

McLean - steady and dependable

The only one I disagree with is Bate, he went missing for patches, but he was one of the few you could count on to deliver it forward, both he and Dunn will be players. I loved Dunn's game tonight, his precise skills and attack on the ball shamed some of the more experienced onballers.

I'm so confused.. is Robbo retiring?

If not, what was with him throwing his boots into the crowd?

His feet were sore.

Probably didn't want to be out done by the G train, figure he got on the front page, i should too :)

Yep, that was more or less my take on it.

Felt he needed more attention than his retiring teammates, so threw his boots away.

Not taking anything away from Robbo's goals or anything, but seriously, could he blow his own trumpet even harder?

when l saw that l thought he might be thinking about going, if they do let him go the woewodin(l forget how to spell it) trade will be peanuts to what the faithful would think about this

Robbo is an absolute enigma.

Not a clue why he went to throw his shoes into the crowd... maybe to say thanks to those of us who turn up each week to watch them play like crap...

Very disappointing game from most of our senior players, who under no pressure, should have had a bigger impact. White, Green and especially Bruce were all poor. Thought Junior was completely disinterested, which is very uncharacteristic.

Overall it was a terrible game to finish off a terrible year.

At least McLean, Jone, Dunn, Bate and Juice give us some hope going forward. And if it wasn't for Bode's constant fumbling, he would have got a mention too.

Are you kidding me. Bruce isn't going anywhere. He played a poor game tonight but he is a gun and there is no way he'll be traded. It is ridiculous that some Melbourne supporters think he'll be gone by the end of the year. Sometimes his kicking might frustrate you but he is a great footballer.

Great footballers...

Daniel Kerr, Jonathan Brown, Andrew Mcleod, Chris Judd, Dean Cox, Ben Cousins, Matthew Pavlich, Simon Black etc...

Cameron Bruce is not a great footballer

Why is everyone suprised it was such an average game? Expecting a blockbuster?

There were lots of positives to come out of tonight. Plenty for Bailey to work with.

there is a difference between a great footballer and a superstar. The players you mentioned are superstars.

Bruce Playing in a team that gets belted every week doesn't help his causes. If he played a team i.e West coast, you would have a totally different on him. Don't be so quick to judge YM as the team has had a horror year.

If Bruce was playing for West Coast, he wouldn't be in their best half dozen. He is probably comparable to Embley at best. I would have Judd, Kerr, Cox, Cousins, Glass and Hunter ahead of him.

does that make fev a superstar? or richardson?

Bruce is currently a dour footballer with high trade market value. There is a great opportunity to trade him and win on the deal. If you take emotion and allegiance out of the equation, C.B. is the best trade bait since S.W.

I've finally managed to decifer that into english, so here's my response. I love Robbo, he is a great story of not most skilled footballer using what he's got to his full potential, but more than that he is a top guy who his a true clubman. However this year and last year have been screwed up by injury and his muscles and ligiments aren't getting stronger, they are getting weaker.

For us to give a player who is turning 30 in November a 3 year contract, we would have to be absolutely sure we'd get the enough out of him for the full 3 years. I don't think we can have that with Robbo, we know that when he's out there he will give 100% and dive into contests but he hasn't been out there enough in this year. Offering a 2 year contract is more than fair IMO, in fact i think many clubs would try for a 1 year contract but i think he deserves better.

We gave Biz a 3 year contract and it screwed us, let's learn from that mistake.

BTW agree with you re Bruce. He still adds plenty, let's just get him fit and kicking the ball properly!

Miller - effective in bursts

I was impressed by Miller.

Thinking he was trying to impress his former Mt. Gravatt coach and keep his job next year.

Posted

As much as i enjoy watching Brad Miller (ooh what a body!!!) he is frustrating to say the least. He played his best game of the year last season in our final game and he has done it again this year. He will have to learn to be more consistent if he wants to keep on mixing it with the big guys. He can take a good grab and has the potential to turn his game around but how long are we going to put up with someone who has potential but doesn't deliver?

Posted

Hadn't Bruce got injured two seasons ago he would nearly have been a brownlow medalist. Didn't he have five BOG in a row then get injured. He is a class footballer, hes had injuries this year and to be fair on him you only play as well as your team does. You certainally cant go off his last round performance when either side are competing for nothing

Posted
Ferguson probably had his best game, but was it enough to get him a contract extension?

Ferguson makes me sad. He is a man trapped in a boy's body, and at the age of 26 and after 4 seasons on a senior list, he's shown that that situation is probably never going to change. He would've made a top class defender if it wasn't for that IMO. Should be gone now.

Posted

The trading of Bruce is a distinct possibility if the team song was something to go by. He looked really subdued and almost surly compared to the rest of the players. Is that a sign? Does he know something we don't?

I hope the TJ bashers will settle down a little after last night. Would be the most ludicrous decision to trade that rare class.

Robbo is turning 29 later this year, not 30. I really hope both parties can agree on 2 years. Players like him don't grow on trees, but 3 years is fraught with danger.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
