apparently all members in the selection panel nominated two people, every person nominated bailey, and were very impressed with the way he presented himself, being very clear and direct.

Bailey - does not believe in trade week (despite port having 9 recycled players in their premiership team), but has sounded out that Travis Johnstone is on the chopping block.

not media savvy (happy with that) and will find it difficult to sell the club in the same manner as daniher (ultimately results sell the club)

sheedy - was pick number 2 of the five, however the panel had concerns about his age and no new ideas

hardwick - very keen on hardwick, however fumbled his way through the interview at times, they think he will be a very good coach in a few years, but weren't willing to take a risk on him

connolly - not enough insight - no new ideas unlike bailey and hardwick

riley - just part of the process.

bond - no good on the psych testing

in other news apparently bailey and libba were the only two who applied for the job, the others were approached by the melbourne football club.

also longmire applied for the job after the first part of the process was complete, but could not be considered as he missed the first part.

what i take from this, im very happy we have appointed someone who is not about selling the club, someone who was appointed because the club feels he can win us games.

Revealing a source on a forum is a very bad thing to do, I wouldn't expect anyone to give up a source and I'd be dissapointed if anyone did.

i agree im a johno fan too, has got an x factor. but it is time for some tough decisions.

Good get rid of Johnno, he may run a lot but i find him a very frustrating player to watch in the other areas of his game, plus he is still worht a fair bit in a trade.

You're just determined to find fault before anything has actually happened......

As for Bailey's apparent trade week stance, just because we seem to want to see every Tom, Dick and Harry on our list gone doesn't mean it will happen immediately. And in reality we have absolutely no idea what will happen once our new coach starts to get his feet wet and actually meets with all the players.

But what we see won't necessarily be what he sees, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. A clean slate is what we all wanted and that is what we got.

That being said there are some obvious choices that must be made, and I want to have faith that he will do what he can to better the list.

He obviously could bring in something great, something that Bailey may think we desperately need.

That would have been part of the presentation... a list analysis and a plan going forward.

If he does indeed have TJ on the chopping block, it only reaffirms what I've heard about him being a tough, ruthless man. EXCELLENT!

Nobody should be safe and everyone should be working their bum off to prove to him that they deserve to play in a red and blue jumper.

Im sure he has opinions on players of all clubs, not just Melbourne. Like most of the members on Demonland you dont need to be on the inside to have an opinion on players. He is probably fully aware of our weeknesses having played against us.

the reason he knows which players are tradeable is due to the process he has gone through to get the job. apparently they had to do a list appraisal and match simulation.

That said, I'd virtually embrace trading anyone if it improves our list. It's not like we're talking about trading premiership players now, are we.

But as has been alluded to, if correct, Bailey's right. Ninety per cent of any lists improvement will come through the drafts, not trade week.

Me too, but given he signed a 3 year deal earlier this year (whos brilliant idea was that?), I don't think we can.

There's an article by Jon Anderson in today's Herald Sun in which he rates how players who changed clubs have gone so far this year at their new clubs. Out of 15 players, only two - Graham Polak and Dean Solomon scored more than 50% (and neither are at clubs that will play in the finals). Kent Kingsley scored 1 out of 10 and Michael Gardiner a perfect zero. Not one of the players on the list is with a top 4 team this year and only three - Everitt, Medhurst and Bryan (PSD) have a chance of playing in the finals. If the context therefore is that trades alone aren't enough to make your team a power then he's right. I would also contend that high draft picks alone aren't enough either.

I think that's right Jack, at least I'd like to think my interpretation of that is right...

I don't think it's the case of Bailey doesn't believe in trade week, rather he doesn't believe in coughing up high draft picks for other club's problems. David Roden's a good example - no one wanted him as a trade, but Port took the very low risk option and it's paid off for them. Last year there was very little on offer and hence we didn't get involved... many on here criticised the club for that, but I think the decision has been well and truly vindicated.

The good news is other clubs (Sydney, Bulldogs, Collingwood) don't think like that and I think the club has the opportunity to improve its draft position and cauterise the softness in the list by trading a couple of players.

TJ has missed plenty of games this year and carried injuries in most games that he did play. You may may want to take this into account before stating that he needs a kick up the backside. He is a very rare species of player that can win a game for us single handedly. There is no way we improve our list with moving Trav on.

If Johnstone is on the trade table (which is highly unlikly considering he is our best player) then he just upped his currency by having 24 possesions in the first half.
