The Xavier Bamert Thread

Xavier Bamert

height: 185cm

weight:

D.O.B: 29-01-2007

Leagues: AFL U18 Championships, Coates Talent League Boys

STRENGTHS:

+ Aggression
+ Endurance
+ Size
+ Work rate

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Class
- Speed

Xavier Bamert had the tall task of captaining the Sandringham Dragons in their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Coates Talent League premiership this year. It was a testament to the bullocking midfielder's leadership and consistent output that they made it to the big dance, arguably minus the depth of top-end talent available in previous Dragons sides.

Bamert is an imposing figure, broadly built and ready for senior footy. His power is palpable; he can blast penetrating passes off his left boot and crash in at any stoppage regardless of the opposition. And yet, the perception of him as a battering ram doesn’t undermine his work rate and intent to get to as many contests as possible - boasting elite running power.

The query on Bamert, like most big-bodied midfielders, is his upside and class. Players with mature frames tend to dominate against smaller junior bodies, but that is harder said than done at the senior level. Further to that, he can certainly add some polish to his kicking, but has the endurance, physical attributes, and versatility to make it at the next level.

Born in 2007 and (soon to be) playing AFL..?! How old am I. What is happening. So many questions.

Surprised he didn’t get picked up in the draft. Could do with a little more speed but not the end of the world. It’s a yes, from me.

Like @adonski and @picket fence , I thought Xavier Bamert was a strong chance of being drafted last year. As an underager in 2024 he played in a very strong Dragons team as a half back. Tough. Excellent left foot kick. In 2025, as Dragons captain, he played inside mid role and across half forward. What I like is his competitive attitude. Like Xavier Taylor, if you push Bamert, he will push back twice as hard. He wants to win. Obviously not getting drafted was a hit, but kicking picked up by the Kangas VFL has kept him trialling at the standard. He’s a chance and he’d be a good pickup imv.

Easier said than done?

If we do happen to pick this kid up, I want his nickname to be "Bamm-Bamm". Looking forward to seeing him reduce his opponents to rubble.

We'd also be the only team with three Xaviers I think. XXX rated!

Seen him play and would be an excellent addition to our club!

At least his power is palpable

We really seem to like anyone with the name Xavier lately, would have to be a first to potentially have three Xavier’s on the list at the same time.

He's been trying that as a pick-up line and clubs expect him to be single until at least 35.

Worst case scenario he gives Casey a bit of extra palpiness in the middle.

‘Xavier’ is the new ‘Jack’.

Based on this huge sample size, would he be a bit slow for AFL?

He is a crash and bash merchant with good skills, huge heart and a wise cracking attitude, as honest as the day is long and is sure to be a popular addition if he gets a go!

For comparison, I dont think Jai Newcome was ever known to have speed as his strength when he was picked up in the mid season draft few years back.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
