PODCAST: Rd 07 vs Richmond

Binman presents his Long Form Stats Files Preview of the upcoming match against the Richmond.

I'm still traveling and didn't have time to put together an Intro/Outro for the show so you get a raw and unfiltered Binman this week.

I also will be flying during the match so I will only get to watch the scores update. Lucky me. Hopefully we win so I get to watch it once I land.

After the match on tonight you can also post your questions and comments for Binman, George & I for the Review podcast here.

Go Demons.

Should this week be called Raw Binman or Roar Binman after we dispatched the Lions last week and are planning how to destroy the Tigers this week?

Fabulous work @binman . Loved the pod, loved the new format, loved the time slot. Thank you! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Posting this from the plane. Managed to watch the first quarter before take off. After that I could only watch the scores tick over.

Terrible trip management. I actually thought I was home on the morning of the match but I got the dates wrong. 🤦‍♂️

Guess I will be watching the replay before the Podcast on Monday night.

Don’t forget to get your questions and comments in.

Fast Forward to the 4th. 😁

Has Tom Sparrow finally taken the step up and blossomed into the player we hoped he would become after the flag?

I would love to know what the scores for and against were when Heath was rucking vs Gawn. It felt like the minute Gawn was in ruck we dominated. As an observation it made me appreciate just how influential Gawn is around the ball with his ability to win contested possessions and not let his opponent hurt us.

I think Bailey Laurie showed a bit this game. 62% time on ground, 17 disposals a goal and 11.4 player rating. His first quarter was slow (he was in the negative) and to be honest I was ready to give up on him at AFL level.

He built into it over the next 3 quarters and while he isn't flashy he made some good decisions and some good kicks.

Was this a flash in the pan? Or do you think he is slowly building to the level? He has long been a bit of a whipping boy here and not without reason, also traditionally gives way as soon as we get men back from injury. I think he'd be hard done by based on this game if he was dropped.

How nice was it to be on the positive side of the free kick ledger? Listening to the pearl clutchers on the commentary you would think we had committed a capital crime. I thought the media had a directive not to acknowledge the umpiring. Dunstall nearly had a fit. You love to see it. Long may it rain frees.

How good was Kozzy Pickett on ANZAC Eve? What stands out just as much as the performance itself is the journey that’s led him here. He came into the league as a dangerous small forward, living off moments, pressure and scoreboard impact. Then we started to see those short bursts through the midfield, often at the start of quarters, where his pace and creativity could change the tone of the game in an instant.

Last season that role expanded. He wasn’t just a cameo anymore, he was spending genuine time around the ball and learning how to influence stoppages, link up in transition and still hit the scoreboard. Now it feels like the progression is complete. He’s not a forward rotating through the midfield, he’s a full-time midfielder who can go forward and do serious damage.

What’s changed is not just where he plays, but how consistently he impacts. He’s getting his hands dirty inside, he’s driving clearance work, and he still has that rare ability to turn a game in a matter of seconds. The flair is still there, but it’s now backed by volume and authority. AND HE FINALLY PULLED OFF A MARK OF THE YEAR CONTENDER.

He has absolutely justified every cent and every year of that contract. Players with his combination of explosiveness and game-breaking ability are rare, and right now he is delivering week after week.

So the question becomes, have we already seen the best of Kozzy, or is there still another level to come? And where does he now rank among the elite players in the competition, because on current form he’s pushing himself firmly into that conversation.

FWIW on a recent trip Singapore Airlines had BBC sport showing the footy live (or live-ish). Pity it was the Blues and the filth, but one to look out for in future.

Can the panel do a quick review of their preseason selections for breakout players and players under the pump.

Is that panel buying, holding or selling shares in:

  • Jeffo

  • Laurie

  • Adams

  • XT

  • Cross

  • Henderson

Keen to hear what the crew thought of Moose's game.

Even though he only had 50% time on ground and up against B grade ruck opposition I thought he held his own and created quite a few opportunities for our mids with his ability to get to the front of ruck contests and tap to advantage. I have also been impressed with his quick hands where he's able to find players in space and on the move. Would love to see him clunk a few which looks to be another strength of his. But great signs early on.

Max certainly had some confidence in him. Stating post game that because Moose was going well he was able to rest forward in the last quarter. He also stated he thought Moose at been BOG for Casey through their first few games so far and was really pushing for selection. So it wasn't just to help Gawny out with loads, Moose has definitely earned his spot by the sounds of it.

I think we've found one here. Balance with talls moving forward will be the interesting watch.

glad to be one of the 60000 at the G.

although he can’t kick. I like Jeff in the team. He’s improving every week. He marks strongly and with Fritra now playing more wing I think he adds options in the forward line.

Is it time to put Trelly back In the 2’s??? Been quiet for a couple of games now and his kicking really needs some attention.

The stats don't really back you up there.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
